Weather permitting, we will admire stunning panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks, alongside the beautifully decorated chorten, mani wall, and vibrant prayer flags that adorn the pass.
From there, we descend into the valley to follow part of the Trans Bhutan Trail, known as the ‘Divine Madman Trail,’ tracing the path of the revered Drukpa Kuenley. We visit Thinleygang Lhakhang, an important temple with deep monastic roots. After lunch at a local restaurant, we continue to Gangtey, a tranquil valley surrounded by dense forest, famous for the winter arrival of black-necked cranes and the peaceful village of Phobjikha near Black Mountain National Park. The evening is yours to unwind amid this serene landscape.
Day 4 - Hiking & Wildlife in Phobjikha Valley

Today, we embark on a scenic hike through the enchanting Phobjikha Valley, renowned as the winter home of the rare black-necked cranes. Our trail winds gently through whispering bamboo forests, leading us to the charming village of Kilkhorthang. From there, we visit Tangjey Lhakhang, a historic temple dedicated to Lord Buddha, where calm and spirituality fill the air.
Following a picnic lunch surrounded by nature, we return to our hotel for a brief rest. In the afternoon, we visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre, where powerful scopes bring the elegant birds into close view and insightful exhibits reveal the valley’s rich natural and cultural heritage. We conclude the day with a leisurely return to the hotel, choosing either a short drive or a pleasant 30-minute walk back.

The trail offers breathtaking views of the Mo Chhu River and the surrounding mountains, taking about an hour to reach the summit and 45 minutes to descend. After the hike, we unwind with a picnic lunch by the riverside, soaking in the tranquil surroundings.
In the afternoon, we explore Punakha’s rich history, beginning with a visit to the impressive Punakha Dzong. Situated where the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers meet, this fortress, built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, remains a vital centre of Bhutanese religion and administration. Our day concludes with a visit to a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, where we experience local life firsthand and enjoy a warm cup of tea with the villagers.

Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel to settle in before heading out to explore.
Our afternoon begins with a visit to Ta Dzong, the National Museum, which holds a remarkable collection of Bhutanese art, artefacts, and Thangkha paintings. Following this, we take a scenic walk to Rinpung Dzong, a fortress built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, and the spiritual and administrative centre of Paro. The day closes with time to relax at the hotel, reflecting on the day’s discoveries.
Day 8 - Hike to Tiger’s Nest & Explore Bhutan’s Spiritual Heart

Today, we embark on a scenic hike to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), Bhutan’s most iconic spiritual site, perched 900 metres above the Paro valley. The forested trail, lined with fluttering prayer flags, gradually leads us to the cliffside sanctuary where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated after arriving on a tigress. After exploring the monastery’s inner sanctums, we pause for lunch at the Taktshang Cafeteria, offering panoramic views of the valley below.
Descending at a gentle pace, we then visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples, built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Surrounded by prayer wheels and blooming orange trees, the temple offers a peaceful close to our day. We return to the hotel in the early evening.
Day 9 - Sacred Rituals, Himalayan Vistas & Bhutanese Traditions
Early this morning, we take part in the Tshewang Ceremony, a sacred puja held at a monastery in Paro, Thimphu, or Bumthang. Intended to bring peace, prosperity, and good health, the ritual includes the lighting of butter lamps, offering a moment of quiet reflection as monks chant ancient prayers in the early light.
