Day 1 - Paris
Welcome to Paris! Once you arrive, we'll organise your transfer to the hotel, where you can relax and enjoy some free time to explore as you wish. Later in the afternoon, we'll provide you with all the necessary information to kick-start your tour, either in person or via the signs at the hotel reception. Enjoy your first taste of one of the world's most celebrated cities! Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Paris
On day two, we delve into the fascinating history of France with a visit to the splendid Palace of Versailles. Known globally for its exquisite gardens and stunning architecture, Versailles offers a glimpse into the grandeur of French royal life (please note that admission is not included). After our exploration, we head back to Paris and discover Montmartre, a delightful bohemian quarter that has been a magnet for artists and painters, renowned for its lively cabarets. To get a broader perspective of the City of Light, we embark on a panoramic city tour with a knowledgeable local guide. This tour will take us through Paris's impressive avenues and introduce us to its famed monuments. We return to our hotel afterward, with the evening reserved for you to enjoy an optional variety show if you so wish.
Day 3 - Paris - Rouen
We begin our day in the heart of Paris with a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower, where you have the exciting opportunity to ascend to the second floor and enjoy breathtaking views of the city (tickets are included). Afterwards, we unwind with a leisurely boat cruise on the Seine, offering a different perspective of Paris's landmarks. The afternoon is yours to explore the vibrant city at your own pace. Around 4 p.m., we depart Paris and head to the Normandy region, arriving in the historic city of Rouen. Here, you'll have the chance to wander through the atmospheric old town, which proudly displays its Roman origins alongside charming medieval architecture. Explore Rouen’s rich history and culture, including its impressive Gothic cathedral, before we settle in for the night. Please note that if queues at the Eiffel Tower are excessively long, we may adjust this part of the itinerary for your convenience.
Day 4 - Rouen - English Channel - Canterbury - London
Today, we’ll begin by exploring the heart of Rouen, famous for its medieval architecture and the stunning Rouen Cathedral. Following this, we will journey to northern France. Our adventure continues with a ferry crossing over the English Channel, bringing us to Canterbury, the religious heart of England. Known for its captivating historic centre, Canterbury offers a glimpse into England's rich ecclesiastical history. We'll then head to London, where you'll have some time to explore the area around Tower Bridge, an emblematic symbol of the city, before we make our way to the hotel.
Day 5 - London
Today, we delve into the heart of London with a panoramic tour guided by a local expert, revealing the city's rich tapestry of culture and history. Among the landmarks you’ll see are the iconic Houses of Parliament, the majestic River Thames, and Buckingham Palace, where you might even catch the famous Changing of the Guard, depending on the timing of your visit. As evening descends, we’ll convene at a designated spot in vibrant Piccadilly. From there, we’ll take a leisurely walk through lively Leicester Square, the diverse Chinatown, and the bustling streets of Soho, areas celebrated for their dynamic energy, theatres, and a myriad of dining options. You’ll have the chance to enjoy dinner at your leisure in one of the many local restaurants before we make our way back to the hotel.
Day 6 - London - Cambridge - York - Durham
On the sixth day of our journey, we depart from London, setting our sights on northern England. Our first stop is the historic city of Cambridge, celebrated for its picturesque colleges that have inspired scholars for centuries. After a leisurely lunch break, we continue to York, renowned for its magnificent cathedral, well-preserved Roman walls, and lively shopping streets. You'll have free time to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and explore at your own pace. Later, we journey further north to Durham, a charming medieval town known for its impressive cathedral situated alongside a magnificent castle.
Day 7 - Durham - Alnwick - Edinburgh
Our day begins with a journey into the captivating landscapes of Scotland. Our first port of call is the charming town of Alnwick, famed for its stunning gardens and its grand medieval castle, which has captured the imagination in the Harry Potter films. After soaking in the historic charm, we continue our voyage to Edinburgh, arriving around midday. As the dynamic capital of Scotland, Edinburgh boasts a city centre so impressive it has earned the distinction of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overlooking the steep streets and lush parks is the iconic Edinburgh Castle. We will enjoy a guided panoramic tour, giving you the perfect introduction to this vibrant, cultural city.
Day 8 - Edinburgh - Inverness - Loch Ness - Fort Augustus - Glasgow
Today, we embark on an adventure through the majestic Scottish Highlands. Our journey begins with a coffee break and a stroll in the charming village of Pitlochry, renowned for its scenic beauty. Next, we travel through Inverness, situated near the legendary Loch Ness. Here, we will visit the historic Urquhart Castle (admission included) and take a boat ride upon the dark, mysterious waters of Loch Ness, offering a unique perspective of this iconic location.After our exploration, we pass by Fort Augustus and its series of locks, and continue to Fort William, a popular resort town nestled at the base of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the UK. Our route then leads us south, meandering through the scenic high plateaus – often cloaked in snow – and alongside the tranquil shores of Loch Lomond. By day's end, we reach Glasgow, where we'll conclude our day's travels.Important Note: For groups arriving in Edinburgh from 15th November to the end of February, our itinerary alters slightly due to shorter daylight hours and potential snow. We will depart at 8:00 a.m. from Edinburgh, head to Pitlochry for a visit to a traditional whisky distillery (admission included), then journey to Stirling to explore its historic centre and grand castle (tickets included). After photographing the striking Kelpies sculptures, we'll continue to Glasgow, arriving around 5:00 p.m., with time for a city centre stroll.
Day 9 - Glasgow - Belfast - Dublin
Today, we embark on a journey leaving Glasgow for the scenic route to southern Scotland, where we board a ferry at Cairnryan. This crossing takes us to Northern Ireland, arriving in Belfast, a city forging a vibrant future while preserving its monumental heritage. As we continue our travels, we cross into Ireland, making our way to Dublin. By the end of the day, you'll find yourself in the lively heart of the Irish capital, eager to explore its rich cultural and historical offerings.
Day 10 - Dublin
We'll begin our day with a panoramic tour of Dublin, Ireland's tranquil capital city. Our exploration will take us along the River Liffey, where we can enjoy the lush parks, historic university grounds, and energetic city centre streets. As we wander, we’ll have the chance to admire the exterior of the illustrious Trinity College, a cornerstone of Dublin's academic life. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your leisure, providing ample opportunity to delve into Dublin's vibrant culture, perhaps exploring its diverse galleries and shops or savouring the local cuisine. Note that occasionally, depending on our arrival time and daylight, this tour might be scheduled for the previous afternoon.
Day 11 - Dublin - Caernarfon - Liverpool
Today begins with an early ferry ride from Dublin to Wales, lasting approximately three to three and a half hours. Our first destination is Caernarfon, a coastal town renowned for its breathtaking castle—a World Heritage Site that stands as a testament to the town's rich history. You'll have some time to explore, enjoy lunch, and perhaps take a leisurely stroll through the town's charming streets. Following this, we'll journey onward to Liverpool, a city celebrated for its maritime history and cultural contributions, not least of which is being the birthplace of The Beatles. We’ll take a brief bus tour to acquaint ourselves with the highlights of this vibrant city, which boasts the second-largest port in the United Kingdom. If you're a fan of music history, you might consider visiting The Beatles Museum during your free time.
Day 12 - Liverpool - Stratford - Oxford - Portsmouth - Saint-Malo Ferry
Today, we venture through the charming countryside of southern England. Our first stop is Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, where you'll have time to enjoy lunch and a gentle stroll through this picturesque town. From there, we continue to Oxford, renowned for its prestigious university and rich academic heritage, having shaped many prominent figures throughout history.Our journey then leads us to Portsmouth, where we board a modern ferry bound for France. You'll spend the night onboard in en-suite double cabins equipped with bunk beds. Please note, the overnight crossing may alter slightly due to availability, so it's wise to prepare a carry-on with your essentials for the night. Do keep in mind that breakfast during the crossing is not included.
Day 13 - Portsmouth - Saint-Malo Ferry - Mont-Saint-Michel - Saint-Malo - Dinan - Rennes
We will disembark the ferry in Normandy and make our way to Mont-Saint-Michel, famously referred to as "The Marvel." Here, you'll have the opportunity to explore this unique island city and its renowned abbey, all embraced by the sea. Our next destination is Saint-Malo in Brittany, a city fortified by impressive walls overlooking the coast. Enjoy some time for lunch before we proceed to Dinan, a quaint Breton village known for its charm. We'll savour a traditional crepe and drink before continuing to Rennes, the capital of Brittany. In Rennes, a city known for its rich history, you'll be taken in by its monumental historic centre.
Day 14 - Rennes - Angers - Tours - Villandry - Amboise
We'll begin our day by departing Rennes and heading towards the city of Angers. Here, you have the opportunity to visit the famous castle, renowned for housing the largest medieval tapestry, which vividly depicts the Apocalypse. We'll then set off towards the picturesque Loire Valley, arriving in Tours, the capital of the region, beautifully situated on the banks of the Loire River. You'll have some time to explore the area and enjoy a leisurely lunch. In the afternoon, we'll visit the Ch?teau de Villandry, famed for its splendid gardens and vibrant floral displays ? admission to the gardens is included. Our journey will then take us to Amboise, where we will stay the night. This city is celebrated for its charming medieval quarter, and you will be treated to an included dinner to end the day on a delightful note.
Day 15 - Amboise - Chenonceaux - Chambord - Paris
Today, immerse yourself in the wonders of the Loire Valley. We begin with a leisurely promenade through Amboise, renowned for the Ch?teau du Clos Luc?, where the great Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years. Our exploration of the Loire's treasures continues as we visit the famous Ch?teau de Chenonceau ? its elegant arches span the River Cher (admission included). Next, we'll travel to Chambord to admire the grandest ch?teau in the Loire Valley, where you'll have access to explore the parkland. Our adventure draws to a close as we return to Paris, arriving in the evening. Do check your flight details, as an additional night's stay may be required. You will leave with cherished memories of your enriching journey.
