Day 1 - Paris
Welcome to Paris! Upon your arrival, we will arrange for your transfer to the hotel. You can then enjoy some leisure time to settle in and explore at your own pace. This afternoon, you'll receive important information about the start of your tour – either from one of our representatives or through notices displayed at the hotel's reception area. Please note that fellow travellers may join or leave the tour at different points along the way, although the maximum group size will always be respected. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Paris
On the second day, we dive into the fascinating history of France with a visit to the splendid Palace of Versailles. Known for its exquisite gardens, this royal residence offers a glimpse into the opulence of the French monarchy, though please note that admission is not included. Upon our return to Paris, we explore Montmartre, a delightful bohemian district known for its vibrant artistic scene, including painters, cabarets, and a lively atmosphere. To capture the essence of Paris, we then embark on a panoramic tour with a local guide, showcasing the city's grand avenues and renowned landmarks. After this enriching day, we return to our hotel. If you wish to extend the evening, there is an optional variety show to consider.
Day 3 - Paris - Tours
On our third day, we begin in the vibrant heart of Paris with a visit to the renowned Eiffel Tower. You will have the opportunity to ascend to its second floor and take in the city's breathtaking views – admission for this experience is included. Following this, we will unwind with a serene boat cruise along the Seine River, lasting approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. The afternoon is free for you to explore Paris at your leisure, indulging in its rich culture and iconic landmarks. At 5:30 p.m., we'll depart Paris and journey to the picturesque Loire Valley, arriving in the charming city of Tours, the region's capital, by the evening. Here, we suggest taking a leisurely stroll through the historic centre and enjoying a delightful dinner. Please note that due to potential long wait times, your visit to the Eiffel Tower might be rescheduled to a more convenient time, possibly on Sunday.
Day 4 - Tours - Bordeaux - Lourdes
Today we travel through the scenic vineyards of southern France to Bordeaux, whose historical centre is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you'll have ample time to enjoy lunch and explore at your leisure. We highly recommend visiting the Port of the Moon and the magnificent Cathedral of St. Andrew. Our journey then takes us towards the Pyrenees, arriving in Lourdes by late afternoon. This renowned pilgrimage site offers you the opportunity to participate in the evening candlelight procession (available from late March to late October) and explore its various places of worship. Dinner is included at the hotel for all guests.
Day 5 - Lourdes - Carcassonne - Narbona - Marseille
On our journey through the south of France today, we'll make a stop at the remarkable city of Carcassonne, famed for its stunning medieval walls, which are among the most beautiful in Europe. You'll have ample time to take a leisurely stroll and explore this captivating city. Following lunch, our adventure continues to Narbonne, a historic city in the Occitanie region. Here, you'll have free time to wander the picturesque old town, rich in history and charm. In the late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Marseille, France’s second-largest city. We encourage you to take a walk through the bustling Vieux-Port (Old Port), which is alive with activity and features an array of delightful small restaurants.
Day 6 - Marseille - Arles - Avignon - Lyon
On the sixth day of our journey, we will explore the enchanting region of Provence. Our first stop is Arles, a city rich in Roman and medieval history and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you'll also be reminded of the time Vincent van Gogh spent in the area. We then head to Les Baux, a quaint medieval village where we include a visit to the Carrières de Lumières. This unique spectacle transforms art into an immersive experience with light and sound displays set within the village's ancient quarries. Afterward, you'll have time for lunch and a leisurely stroll in Avignon, renowned for the grand Palais des Papes. We then continue to Lyon, where we take a walking tour through its historic old town, also a World Heritage Site. To cap off the day, we'll ascend via cable car to the stunning Notre-Dame de Fourvière basilica, which offers panoramic views over the city. Please note that if the Carrières de Lumières show is unavailable, we will visit the Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard instead.
Day 7 - Lyon - Tournus - Savigny Castle - Beaune - Dijon
Leaving Lyon behind, we'll venture into the picturesque Burgundy region, starting our day in the charming town of Tournus. Here, you'll find a striking stone gate alongside a large abbey, perfect for a morning exploration. We then head to Beaune, the heart of Burgundy's wine country, where you'll have time for lunch and an opportunity to delve into the town’s rich viticulture. Consider exploring the fascinating wine museum or visiting the historic Hospice de Beaune. Our journey continues to Savigny Castle, a remarkable location amidst lush vineyards. This 15th-century castle hosts unique museums featuring collections of motorbikes, racing cars, planes, and helicopters. Finally, we travel to Dijon, the capital of Burgundy. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and impressive array of medieval and Renaissance architecture, Dijon boasts the magnificent Palace of the Dukes, a must-see for any visitor.
Day 8 - Dijon - Abbey of Fontenay - Semur-en-Auxois - Vezelay - Paris
Today, we shall depart from Dijon and head to the serene Fontenay Abbey, a distinguished UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admission is included, allowing us to explore this remarkable Cistercian haven. Our journey continues to Semur-en-Auxois, a charming medieval town enveloped by ancient walls, which you'll have the opportunity to admire. As we remain in the Burgundy region, we'll take a break for lunch in the picturesque village of Vézelay, renowned for its significant basilica – a traditional starting point for pilgrims on the Way of St. James. In the afternoon, we continue our travels, making our way back to Paris, where we shall arrive in the evening.
Day 9 - Paris
Following breakfast, our adventure concludes, leaving you with cherished memories of your travels.
