Day 1 - Cote d'Azur
Upon arriving at the stunning Côte d'Azur, we will ensure your seamless transfer to the hotel, where you can unwind and acclimate at your leisure. This leisurely period will allow you to soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this renowned region, famous for its breathtaking Mediterranean coastline. Later in the afternoon, we encourage you to visit the hotel reception to review the information boards outlining the commencement and details of your exciting journey ahead. This evening, you may wish to begin exploring the local surroundings, delighting in the unique culture and allure that this part of France is celebrated for. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Cote d'Azur - Sainte-Maxime - Saint-Tropez - Marseille
Today, we will immerse ourselves in the allure of the Côte d'Azur and the Mediterranean coast. After breakfast, our adventure begins with a brief panoramic coach tour of Nice, the vibrant capital of the Côte d'Azur. As we drive along the renowned Promenade des Anglais, enjoy the stunning coastal views before passing through Massena Square and taking in the picturesque scenes at the old port. Our journey continues to Sainte-Maxime, a charming seaside town where we will leisurely stroll through its historic centre and picturesque port, home to the 16th-century "Square Tower." We will then board a scenic boat for a delightful crossing over the bay to Saint-Tropez, where the old fishing port now dazzles with luxurious yachts. You will have free time to explore and enjoy lunch at your leisure. In the afternoon, we set off to Marseille, France's second-largest city, where we will explore the bustling Vieux Port, rich with history and lively atmosphere.
Day 3 - Marseille - Arles - Avignon - Lyon
Today, we will dive into the stunning scenery and rich history of Provence. We'll start our journey in the historical city of Arles, where we'll explore its fascinating Roman and medieval heritage. This city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also brings to mind the artistic legacy of Van Gogh. Our next stop is the enchanting medieval village of Les Baux. Here, we will experience the captivating Carrières de Lumières – an extraordinary underground spectacle marrying art, images, and sound within its ancient quarries. After this, we will enjoy some time in Avignon, home to the magnificent Palais des Papes, where you'll have the opportunity to savour lunch and take a leisurely walk. Our journey continues to Lyon, where we will wander through the city's charming old town, also recognised as a World Heritage Site. We will conclude the day with a scenic cable car ride up to the grandiose Notre-Dame de Fourvière, offering breathtaking views over the cityscape. Please note that if tickets for the Carrières de Lumières show are unavailable due to closures or high demand, we will visit the awe-inspiring Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard.
Day 4 - Lyon - Tournus - Savigny Castle - Beaune - Dijon
We set off from Lyon today, heading into the picturesque Burgundy region. Our first destination is Tournus, a charming town renowned for its striking stone gate and significant abbey. Following this, we'll travel to Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, where you'll have time for lunch and leisure. Consider visiting the wine museum or the historic hospice for a deeper understanding of the area's rich viticulture. We'll then visit the 15th-century Savigny Castle, nestled in the heart of this renowned wine-producing region. Remarkably, the castle houses a unique collection of museums featuring motorbikes, racing cars, planes, and helicopters. Our journey continues to Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, celebrated for its vibrant streets and numerous medieval and Renaissance structures, including the impressive Palace of the Dukes.
Day 5 - Dijon - Abbey of Fontenay - Semur-en-Auxois - Vezelay - Paris
We will depart from Dijon and head towards Fontenay Abbey, a remarkable example of Cistercian architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Entry is included, allowing us to delve into the history and peaceful surroundings of this monastic retreat. Following our visit, we'll continue to the medieval town of Semur-en-Auxois, encircled by impressive ancient walls. Still in the heart of Burgundy, you'll have the chance to enjoy lunch and meander through Vézelay, one of France's most picturesque villages. Here, the grand basilica, recognised as one of the starting points of the Way of St. James, is a sight to behold. In the afternoon, we will journey to Paris, arriving in the evening.
Day 6 - Paris
Our exploration of France's illustrious past begins at the stunning Palace of Versailles. Known for its opulent architecture and breathtaking gardens, the palace offers a glimpse into the magnificence of French history, though entrance fees are not included. Upon our return to Paris, we will venture into the artistic enclave of Montmartre. This bohemian neighbourhood, famed for its vibrant arts scene and cabarets, invites you to soak up its creative atmosphere. A panoramic city tour led by a knowledgeable local guide will then reveal the grandeur of Paris, highlighting its majestic avenues and famous landmarks. We'll conclude our day with a return to the hotel. For an enchanting end to your evening, consider attending an optional variety show.
Day 7 - Paris - Tours
Our day begins in the heart of Paris with a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower, where you can journey to the second floor and take in the spectacular views of the city below (admission included). Following this, we’ll embark on a serene cruise along the River Seine, lasting approximately an hour and fifteen minutes, allowing you to see Paris from a unique vantage point. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure, offering you the perfect opportunity to discover more of Paris’s charm at your own pace. Later, at 5:30 p.m., we’ll depart the bustling city and head towards the picturesque Loire Valley, arriving in Tours by evening. We suggest a leisurely walk through the beautiful historic centre, where you can dine amidst the enchanting ambience of this charming region. Please note that wait times for the Eiffel Tower can be lengthy, so the visit might be rescheduled as needed for logistical reasons.
Day 8 - Tours - Bordeaux - Lourdes
Today we journey south through the picturesque vineyards, arriving in Bordeaux, a city whose centre is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll have time for lunch and a chance to explore this vibrant city. We recommend visiting the Port of the Moon and the majestic Cathedral of St. Andrew. Our adventure continues as we head towards the Pyrenees, reaching Lourdes by late afternoon. Here, you can partake in the evocative candlelight procession—a moving experience held from late March to the end of October—and visit various spiritual sites. Dinner will be provided at the hotel for all our guests.
Day 9 - Lourdes - Carcassonne - Foix - Andorra
Today, we'll start our journey through southern France with a visit to Carcassonne. You'll have time to explore this charming city, celebrated for its impressive medieval walls, awe-inspiring castle, and quaint historic district, known as La Cit?. For lunch, discover one of the city's inviting eateries. Our adventure continues towards the Pyrenees, where we'll make a short stop in Foix, a picturesque medieval town famed for the Ch?teau de Foix. As we traverse the Pyrenees, you'll be treated to views of snow-capped peaks that define this scenic mountain range. Next, we'll pause at Sant Joan de Caselles, a quaint 12th-century Romanesque church, before heading into Andorra. On arrival in Andorra la Vella, the bustling capital, you'll have some free time to explore the city's lively commercial scene or perhaps visit Caldea, renowned as the largest thermal spa in Europe. Dinner will be provided at the hotel, offering a perfect conclusion to a day filled with history and spectacular landscapes.
Day 10 - Andorra - Montserrat - Barcelona
Spend your morning exploring the unique charm of Andorra at your own pace. Whether it's indulging in some shopping or enjoying a leisurely walk, you'll have the freedom to enjoy this picturesque setting. After lunch, we'll set off into the heart of Catalonia. Our route winds through scenic mountain landscapes, leading us to the awe-inspiring abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat. Here, you'll experience a tranquil ascent via rack train (included), offering breathtaking views of the surrounding beauty. After soaking up the atmosphere of this remarkable sanctuary, we'll carry on to the bustling city of Barcelona, arriving by late afternoon.
Day 11 - Barcelona
This morning, we'll embark on a captivating panoramic tour of Barcelona, celebrated as one of Europe's most intriguing capitals. Situated along the Mediterranean, the city boasts the extraordinary modernist architecture of Gaudí, the energetic atmosphere of Las Ramblas, and a rich historical legacy that includes hosting the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. In the afternoon, you're free to explore the vibrant life of Barcelona at your leisure. As evening sets in, we'll transport you to Maremagnum, a modern complex on the waterfront near Plaza de Colón, known for its lively atmosphere and diverse dining options. Take your time to stroll through the area and enjoy the culinary delights on offer.
Day 12 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia - Madrid
Today, we embark on a journey southwards along the Mediterranean coast, stopping first at the enchanting town of Peniscola. This charming seaside town, encircled by its historic walls, offers stunning scenic surroundings perfect for a leisurely stroll. After exploring Peniscola, we'll proceed to Valencia, a lively port city renowned for its vibrant culture and culinary delights. Arriving around lunchtime, this is an ideal opportunity for you to savour the famed paella, a signature dish of the region. At approximately 4:30 p.m., we will set off towards Madrid, but not without a visit to Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences – a striking example of modern architecture. We expect to reach Madrid between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m., where a transfer to Plaza Mayor awaits. This lively square is the heart of the city’s social life, offering a delightful selection of restaurants where you can indulge in pinchos or enjoy a glass of wine. Please be aware that, depending on passenger numbers, the segment between Valencia and Madrid may be completed on a high-speed train.
Day 13 - Madrid
We’ll start our day in Madrid with a tour through the heart of the city, taking in iconic sights such as Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, and the splendid Puerta de Alcalá. As we continue, you’ll be enchanted by Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. Our exploration leads us to the tranquil Retiro Park, a green oasis offering a serene escape at the city's centre, where you can admire the charming lake and the exquisite Palacio de Cristal. Our schedule includes an intriguing visit to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the legendary home of Real Madrid—widely celebrated as one of the world’s premier football clubs. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure, allowing you to explore more of Madrid’s vibrant culture and history. In the evening, we’ll shuttle you back to your hotel for a restful night.
Day 14 - Madrid
