Itinerary
Day 1 - Hubli to Badami
On arrival at Hubballi (Hubli) Airport, meet your driver and transfer to Badami – 105 kilometres, approx. 2 hours. We check in at your hotel and take a short break before heading out to the Badami Cave Temples, carved into the sandstone cliffs and reflecting Hindu, Jain and Buddhist traditions.
We continue to Badami Fort for panoramic views and to see inscriptions and sculptures across the site. We end the day with a relaxed stroll around Agastya Lake, where the red sandstone temples are mirrored in the water. Overnight at your hotel in Badami.
Day 2 - Pattadakal, Aihole & Hampi
Badami – Pattadakal – Aihole – Hampi (approx. 175 km). After breakfast, we drive from Badami to Pattadakal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its 7th–8th century Hindu and Jain temple complexes. We visit the Virupaksha, Jain, Papanatha, Galaganath and Sangameshwara temples.
We then continue to Aihole, often called the cradle of Indian architecture, home to more than 125 Chalukyan temples from the 6th–12th centuries. Here we explore the Durga Temple, Lad Khan Temple, Ravanaphadi Cave Temples, Huchimalli Temple and Huchappayyagudi Temple.
Later, we drive on to Hampi, another UNESCO site, and check in to the hotel. You can spend the evening at leisure near the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3 - Exploring Hampi
After breakfast in Hampi, we begin at the Hazara Rama Temple, noted for its intricate bas reliefs from the Ramayana that reflect the artistry of the Vijayanagara period. We continue to the Vijaya Vittala Temple complex – home to the celebrated stone chariot and musical pillars – before exploring the Royal Enclosure, including the Mahanavami Dibba, once used for royal ceremonies. If you’d like to delve further, you can visit the Lotus Mahal and the Archaeological Museum.
Later, we explore the Hemakuta Hill temples for panoramic views over the ruins and surrounding landscape, then wind down with a leisurely stroll along the Tungabhadra River. Overnight at hotel.
Day 4 - Lakkundi, Gadag & Hubli
Hampi – Lakkundi – Gadag – Hubli (190 km – approx. 4 hours). After breakfast we drive back to Hubli, stopping en route at Gadag and Lakkundi to explore their standout architecture. In Gadag we visit the Trikuteshwara Temple, dating to the 10th–12th centuries and noted for intricate carvings and three Shivalingas carved from a single rock.
We continue to Lakkundi to see a collection of temple ruins and step wells that reflect the craftsmanship of the Chalukyas, Seuna, Kalachuris and Hoysalas. We take time to appreciate the detailed stonework and the precise geometry of the wells before completing the journey. We end with a drop-off at Hubli airport for your onward travel.
