Itinerary
Day 1 - New Delhi - Delhi
Upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, a representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Delhi presents a striking contrast between the ‘old’ and the ‘new’. Old Delhi, once the Muslim capital from the 17th to 19th centuries, is rich with mosques, forts, monuments and bustling bazaars that retain a medieval atmosphere. In contrast, New Delhi, established during British rule, showcases impressive monuments reflecting the legacy of Mughal, Turk, Persian and British influences. In the evening, we will hold a welcome briefing with your tour manager to introduce the journey ahead. You will spend the night in Delhi.
Day 2 - Delhi
After breakfast, we set out on a full-day sightseeing tour of Delhi, exploring both Old and New Delhi’s key landmarks. Begin with the imposing Red Fort, the largest monument in Old Delhi (closed on Mondays). Nearby is the 17th-century Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque. We then walk through the bustling bazaars of Chandni Chowk, offering a vivid experience of a traditional market. Next, visit Raj Ghat, the simple black marble memorial marking the site of Mahatma Gandhi’s cremation. In New Delhi, see the India Gate, a First World War memorial, and the grand avenue leading to the President’s House, flanked by Parliament and the Secretariat buildings. We continue to Humayun’s Tomb, an important precursor to the Taj Mahal, before concluding the tour at Qutub Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world. After the day’s excursions, return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Delhi.
Day 3 - Delhi - Jaipur
After breakfast, we travel to Jaipur, a city renowned for its royal cuisine, impressive historical sites, vibrant markets and warm Rajput hospitality. Known as the ‘Pink City’ for its distinctive pink-hued buildings, Jaipur is especially striking at sunset when the soft golden light enhances the colour of its façades. Upon arrival, we check in to the hotel, leaving the afternoon free for you to relax or explore at your own pace. Overnight in Jaipur.
Day 4 - Jaipur
After breakfast, we set off for a morning tour of Amber Fort, perched on a ridge overlooking a lake. The fort’s formidable exterior conceals richly decorated palaces, temples and gardens within. You will be captivated by the Sheesh Mahal, a chamber adorned with thousands of tiny mirrors on its walls and ceiling. We also explore the Ganesh Pol gate with its intricate frescoes and the Diwan-i-Aam colonnade. Returning to Jaipur’s old city, we visit the City Palace complex, including the Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal palaces, as well as the ornately decorated Peacock Gate. The Armoury Museum offers a fascinating collection of royal weaponry, from swords to flintlocks. Our tour continues to Jantar Mantar, the world’s largest stone astronomical observatory, featuring 14 major instruments designed to measure time, predict eclipses and track celestial bodies. We conclude with a photo stop at the striking Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds, before you have time to explore Jaipur’s vibrant bazaars—Johari for jewels and saris, Tripolia for bronzes and lacquerware, Bapu for perfumes and textiles, and Chandpol for pottery and bracelets. Overnight in Jaipur.
Day 5 - Jaipur - Agra
After breakfast, we drive to Agra, situated on the banks of the River Yamuna. Once the capital of the Mughal Empire in the 17th century, Agra was renowned for its elaborate gardens, waterfalls, bathhouses and canals. Today, the city is known for its vibrant crafts industry, including exquisite marble inlay work and carpets. Upon arrival, we check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 6 - Agra - Delhi
After breakfast, we begin a sightseeing tour of Agra, starting with the magnificent Taj Mahal. Built in the mid-17th century by Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, this mausoleum is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, created by 20,000 artisans from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy. Please note the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. We then visit Agra Fort, a formidable red sandstone fortress housing several grand Mughal palaces. Explore the Diwan-i-Am, where the emperor addressed the public, and the Diwan-i-Khas, used for private audiences with kings and dignitaries. The white marble Mina Masjid, or Heavenly Mosque, offers a striking contrast within the fort. After the tour, we drive back to Delhi for your transfer to the airport to continue your journey.
