Day 1 - Mumbai
On arrival at Mumbai airport, you are met and transferred to your hotel (standard check-in time is 12:00).
Mumbai is a city that rarely pauses, with activity continuing throughout the day and night. From lively shopping districts and sporting venues to theatres, music, and a wide choice of restaurants, the city offers a diverse mix of experiences.
The rest of the day is at leisure - you may choose to relax after your journey or begin exploring at your own pace.
Day 2 - Exploring Mumbai
You begin a guided tour of Mumbai, starting with a drive along Marine Drive, a sweeping coastal boulevard often referred to as the ‘Queen’s Necklace’ for its curve along the shoreline.
At the Gateway of India, you board a ferry to Elephanta Caves (closed on Mondays). On arrival, you climb a series of steps to reach the cave complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rock-cut temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, with impressive sculptural panels dating back to the 5th-8th centuries.
After returning by ferry to the Gateway of India, you continue your city tour. You drive past Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and the Parliament House, both reflecting the city’s colonial-era architecture.
You also visit Dhobi Ghat, Mumbai’s open-air laundry, where rows of stone washing pens offer a glimpse into a unique and enduring part of the city’s daily life.
Your tour includes the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, one of India’s top museums, housed in a Grade I listed building. Its collections span art, archaeology and natural history, offering insight into the country’s cultural heritage.
Day 3 - Fly to Udaipur
Mumbai - Udaipur (flight). Transfer to the airport to board your flight to Udaipur (flight not included). On arrival transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure - you may choose to relax at your hotel or explore the surroundings at your own pace.
In the evening, you attend the Dharohar folk dance show at Bagore ki Haveli. Set within an 18th-century haveli on the banks of Lake Pichola, the performance showcases traditional Rajasthani dance and music. This may take place tomorrow, depending on your arrival time to Udaipur.
Day 4 - Exploring Udaipur
Explore Udaipur today, a city set around a series of lakes and surrounded by the Aravalli Hills. Your tour includes a visit to the City Palace and Museum, a vast complex overlooking Lake Pichola, known for its blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. From here, you also view the Lake Palace, set on an island in the lake and regarded as one of Udaipur’s most iconic sights.
You continue to Jagdish Temple, a prominent 17th-century Hindu temple with detailed carvings, and Saheliyon Ki Bari, a historic garden designed for royal women, with fountains, lotus pools and marble pavilions. You also visit Bada Mahal, set within the City Palace complex.
Further excursions take you to Eklingji and Nagda, both important temple sites located just outside the city, known for their historical and religious significance. During the day, you also see Fateh Sagar Lake, home to India’s only solar observatory situated on an island, and learn about Jaisamand Lake, one of the largest man-made freshwater lakes in Asia.
There is time to explore local markets such as Hathi Pol Bazaar and Bada Bazaar, as well as Shilpgram, a rural arts and crafts complex showcasing traditional craftsmanship.
Day 5 - Udaipur to Ranakpur & Jodhpur
Udaipur - Ranakpur - Jodhpur (265kms). You depart Udaipur and drive to Jodhpur, with a stop en route at the Ranakpur Jain Temple, one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in India. The temple is renowned for its remarkable architecture, featuring 1,444 intricately carved marble pillars - each uniquely designed. The complex also includes multiple halls and domes supported by finely detailed columns, while the ceilings are decorated with geometric patterns and delicate carvings, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship of the 15th century.
After your visit, you continue your journey to Jodhpur. On arrival, you check in to your hotel.
Day 6 - Exploring Jodhpur
Explore Jodhpur today, often referred to as the ‘Blue City’ for the many houses painted in shades of blue beneath the old fort. Your visit begins at Mehrangarh Fort, an imposing structure set on a rocky ridge, dominating the city skyline. Built in 1459 by Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur, the fort features a series of gates, courtyards and well-preserved palaces that reflect the history of the Rathore dynasty.
Continue to Jaswant Thada, a white marble memorial known for its delicate carvings and peaceful setting, followed by a visit to Umaid Bhawan Palace and Museum, a grand 20th-century residence that blends royal heritage with Art Deco influences.
You also travel to Mandore, the former capital of Marwar, located just outside Jodhpur. Here, you explore the gardens, temples and cenotaphs dedicated to past rulers, built in a style inspired by traditional Hindu temple architecture. You return to your hotel in the evening.
Day 7 - Pushkar, Ajmer & Jaipur
Jodhpur - Pushkar - Jaipur (330kms). You depart Jodhpur and drive towards Jaipur, with stops en route to explore Pushkar and Ajmer.
In Pushkar, one of the oldest towns in India, visit the sacred Pushkar Lake, surrounded by 52 ghats where pilgrims gather for ritual bathing. You also visit the Brahma Temple, one of the very few temples dedicated to Lord Brahma, and the Savitri Temple, set on a hill overlooking the town.
Continue to nearby Ajmer, where you visit the Khwaja Dargah Sharif, an important Sufi shrine that attracts visitors from across the country. You also see Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda, an early example of Indo-Islamic architecture, and Anasagar Lake, a historic artificial lake offering a peaceful setting.
After your visits, you continue your drive to Jaipur. On arrival, you check in to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure - you may choose to relax after the journey.
Day 8 - Jaipur & Amber Fort
You explore Jaipur today, often referred to as the ‘Pink City’, known for its planned layout and distinctive architecture. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the city was designed according to the principles of Vastu Shastra, and later painted pink in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales - a colour that has since become a symbol of hospitality.
In the morning, you visit Amber Fort, set on a hillside just outside the city, where courtyards and palaces reflect a blend of Rajput and Mughal design. You continue to Jaigarh Fort, which overlooks Amber and houses one of the world’s largest wheeled cannons.
Back in the city, you visit the City Palace, still partly a royal residence, and the nearby Observatory (Jantar Mantar), a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring a collection of astronomical instruments. You also stop at the Hawa Mahal, the iconic ‘Palace of Winds’, known for its ornate façade designed to allow royal women to observe street life unseen.
Further visits include Sisodia Rani Garden, a landscaped garden with fountains and painted pavilions, and the Birla Temple, a modern marble temple known for its detailed carvings. There is also time to explore Jaipur’s lively bazaars, where traditional crafts, textiles and jewellery reflect the city’s rich artistic heritage. You return to your hotel in the evening.
Day 9 - Abhaneri, Fatehpur Sikri & Agra
Jaipur - Abhaneri - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra (245kms). Depart Jaipur and drive towards Agra, with stops at two significant historical sites along the way.
Your first stop is Abhaneri, a small village known for Chand Baori, one of the deepest and largest stepwells in India. This remarkable structure features a geometric network of steps descending to the water level, alongside a nearby Hindu temple.
Continue to Fatehpur Sikri, the former capital of the Mughal Empire built by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century and later abandoned. Constructed primarily from red sandstone, the site includes a series of well-preserved buildings such as the Diwan-i-Khas, Jodha Bai Palace, Jama Masjid, the Tomb of Salim Chishti, Panch Mahal and the impressive Buland Darwaza.
After your visit, you continue to Agra. On arrival, you check in to your hotel.
Day 10 - Taj Mahal Sunrise & Delhi
Agra - Delhi (204kms). Begin early with a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, one of India’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1632 by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, this white marble mausoleum is renowned for its symmetry, intricate inlay work and changing colours in the morning light.
You then visit Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors until 1638. Within its red sandstone walls, a series of palaces and audience halls reflect the power and refinement of the Mughal court.
Your tour also includes Itmad-ud-Daula, often referred to as the ‘Baby Taj’. Commissioned by Nur Jahan for her father, this tomb is noted for its delicate marble work and is considered a precursor to the design of the Taj Mahal.
In the afternoon, you drive to Delhi. On arrival, you check in to your hotel.
Day 11 - Exploring Delhi
Explore Delhi today, discovering both Old and New Delhi, each offering a distinct perspective on the city’s history and culture. In Old Delhi, you visit the Red Fort (closed on Mondays), which served as the residence of the Mughal emperors for nearly 200 years until 1857. You continue to Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, built by Shah Jahan.
Enjoy a cycle rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, passing through its lively streets and the Khari Baoli Spice Market, known for its wide range of spices, dried fruits and traditional goods, offering a glimpse into the city’s bustling trading life. You also visit Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, set at the site of his cremation.
In New Delhi, visit Humayun’s Tomb, an early example of Mughal architecture and the first garden-tomb in the Indian subcontinent, commissioned in the 16th century. You continue to Qutub Minar, a 73-metre-high minaret and part of a historic complex showcasing Afghan-influenced design. You also visit the Lotus Temple, a Bahá’í House of Worship known for its distinctive lotus-shaped structure. Your tour includes a drive past key landmarks such as the President’s House, Parliament House and India Gate. Return to your hotel in the evening.
Day 12 - Delhi
Your tour ends today after breakfast and check-out. A transfer takes you to the airport for your onward flight.
