Itinerary
Day 1 - Rome
Welcome to Rome. On arrival, we’ll meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Look for our information sign at reception – it lists the activities and the time your tour guide will meet the group there. In the evening, we’ll take you to Via Cavour for an easy first look at the city; you can choose where to dine, with plenty of Italian, Indian, Chinese and international options.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Rome
This morning we explore the Eternal City on a three-hour guided tour, combining a walk through Imperial Rome with a panoramic coach drive. We’ll take in the Arch of Constantine, the exterior of the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums, the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Pyramid of Cestius and Castel Sant’Angelo. The tour ends at Vatican City around 11:00 – after which your guide will offer an optional visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel if you wish to continue. In the evening, we include a transfer to Trastevere – a lively neighbourhood known for its cosy restaurants – with return to the hotel around 8:30 pm.
Day 3 - Rome - Florence
Leaving Rome, we travel north through changing landscapes to Florence. On arrival, we go straight to Piazzale Michelangelo for sweeping views of the city, then walk towards the historic centre. After time for lunch, we join a guided walking tour with a local expert to see the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria – Florence is like an open–air museum. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace. In the evening, you can choose from plenty of dinner options, with restaurants in the area serving a range of international cuisines.
Day 4 - Florence - Venice
Leaving Florence, we cross the Apennines – a scenic journey with mountain views – before reaching Venice. On arrival, we take a boat across the Giudecca Canal to the island of Venice. With a local guide, we explore St Mark’s Square – the city’s central piazza – then tour the Murano Glass Factory to see traditional glassmaking techniques in action. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace. Accommodation is in the Mestre district.
Day 5 - Venice - Innsbruck - Salzburg
We depart Venice and cross into Austria. On arrival in Innsbruck – the Tyrolean capital – you’ll have time to stroll the historic centre and choose a spot for lunch. We then follow scenic mountain roads to Kitzbühel – a picturesque village and renowned ski resort where snow is present for much of the year – and you’ll have time to explore at your own pace. We continue to Salzburg, arriving by the end of the day. Note: if the group is small, we may travel by train from Venice to Innsbruck.
Day 6 - Salzburg - Lake Traunsee - Vienna
This morning, we explore Salzburg – Mozart’s city – whose Renaissance and Baroque centre sits beneath the imposing fortress. We then drive through lakes and mountains to St. Wolfgang, a renowned Austrian pilgrimage town, before continuing to Traunkirchen on the shores of Lake Traunsee. Here we include a cruise to view four of the lake’s castles, disembarking in Gmunden. We then continue to Vienna, arriving in the evening.
Day 7 - Vienna
This morning in Vienna, we take a panoramic tour with a local guide – we’ll trace the city’s grand avenues, elegant palaces, broad parks and lively centre. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace. In the evening, we include a transfer to the Grinzing district – an old wine growing village now part of the city – known for its traditional taverns, where you’ll have time to dine.
Day 8 - Vienna - Budapest
After a journey of around three hours, we arrive in Budapest, Hungary’s capital. We begin in the lively Váci utca area, where you have free time for lunch. We then take an included cruise on the Danube – with historic Buda on one bank and cosmopolitan Pest on the other – before continuing with a panoramic tour of this Queen of the Danube. You have free time afterwards to explore at your own pace. In the evening, you can join an optional Magyar show with dinner.
Day 9 - Budapest - Bratislava - Prague
We leave Budapest early and travel to Bratislava – Slovakia’s capital on the Danube – with time to explore its historic centre and have lunch. In the afternoon, we continue into the Czech Republic, reaching Prague in the evening. We include a transfer to Old Town Square – a lively introduction to the city – where you can choose a restaurant for dinner, with options including Czech, Chinese, Indian and Italian. After dinner, we return to the hotel.
Day 10 - Prague
Prague takes centre stage today – the Baroque jewel of Europe. We begin with a panoramic tour led by our local guide, stopping at the city’s standout sights and visiting Prague Castle – admission included. Afterwards, we’ll view the skyline from the water on a cruise along the Vltava – included. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace.
Day 11 - Prague - Pilsen - Rothenburg - Frankfurt
We leave Prague early and stop in Pilsen in western Bohemia – renowned for its beer. You’ll have time to wander the historic centre, taking in the Old Town Square, the cathedral, the Plague Column and the Renaissance town hall. We then cross into Germany and follow part of the Romantic Road to Rothenburg – a town that feels straight out of a fairy tale and is considered one of the most beautiful in the country. After our visit, we continue to Frankfurt, Germany’s financial capital, arriving in the evening. You’ll have free time in the historic centre to choose dinner from a wide range of restaurants serving Indian, Asian, Italian and international cuisines.
Day 12 - Frankfurt - Cologne - Amsterdam
We depart Frankfurt for the Rhine and board a scenic cruise between Rüdesheim and St Goar – often considered the river’s most picturesque stretch. After disembarking, we continue by road to Cologne to see its immense Gothic cathedral, then cross into the Netherlands, arriving in Amsterdam in the evening.
Day 13 - Amsterdam
We spend the day exploring the Holland of our dreams. We begin at Zaanse Schans, known for its wooden houses, canals and windmills, before continuing to Volendam, a scenic fishing village. From here, we take a short boat ride to Marken – once an island, now linked to the mainland by a fixed dike – where houses were traditionally built on stilts to protect against flooding. In the afternoon, we enjoy a guided tour of Amsterdam, taking in the iconic windmill image and the Rembrandt statue, the contemporary elegance of the South District, and the centuries‑old craft of diamond cutting around Museum Square. We finish at Central Station, where the tour ends, and your guide will share information so you can explore Amsterdam’s canals, street markets and cafés at your own pace.
Day 14 - Amsterdam - Brussels - Paris
After breakfast in Amsterdam, we travel south to Belgium – just over 200 km – arriving in Brussels, the capital and seat of key European institutions. Before reaching the historic centre, we pause at the Atomium, the city’s most recognisable landmark. We then make our way to the Grand Place to admire its ornate Flemish Baroque architecture and continue to the nearby Manneken Pis. In the afternoon, we continue into France, arriving in Paris by the end of the day.
Day 15 - Paris
We travel to the Palace of Versailles – admission not included – to explore the estate and its celebrated gardens. Returning to Paris, we continue to Montmartre, the bohemian quarter known for its artists and cabarets. We then take a panoramic city tour with a local guide to see Paris’s grand avenues and major landmarks, before returning to the hotel. In the evening, you can choose to attend an optional variety show.
Day 16 - Paris - Rouen
We begin in central Paris with an ascent to the Eiffel Tower’s second floor – tickets included – followed by a relaxing cruise on the Seine. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace. At about 16:00, we depart Paris for Normandy, arriving in Rouen. You’ll have free time to discover the historic centre of this lively city, which dates to Roman times and features fine medieval architecture and an impressive Gothic cathedral. Note: if waiting times at the Eiffel Tower are too long, we may reschedule the visit to another time – possibly on Sunday.
Day 17 - Rouen - English Channel - Canterbury - London
This morning, we take a relaxed stroll through the centre of Rouen. Then we travel north through France and cross the English Channel by ferry. On arrival in England, we reach Canterbury – the country’s religious capital with a charming historic centre – before continuing to London. You’ll have some free time around the Tower Bridge area, one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, before we make our way to the hotel.
Day 18 - London
Today we explore London on a panoramic tour with a local guide, taking in the city’s history and culture as we pass key sights – Parliament, the River Thames and Buckingham Palace. Depending on the dates, we may witness the Changing of the Guard. In the evening, we’ll set a meeting point in Piccadilly for a stroll through Leicester Square, Chinatown and Soho – lively areas known for their theatres and entertainment. You can choose from plenty of dinner options before we return to the hotel.
Day 19 - London
After breakfast, we head to the British Museum, one of the world’s oldest and most renowned museums, home to remarkable artefacts from across the globe. Around lunchtime, we include a transfer to Camden – famed for its vibrant, eclectic market – where you can browse the stalls and find something to eat. The afternoon is free for you to explore London at your own pace. Our journey concludes today – please check your flight time in case you need an additional night.
