Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico City. We’ll arrange your transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free – you can settle in at your own pace. Our guide will contact you in the late afternoon.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
This morning we head to Xochimilco to glide along its canals on a traditional trajinera – colourful, flower decked boats that pass the area’s semi floating gardens. We then continue with a panoramic tour of the capital, taking in the Plaza of the Three Cultures, the historic centre with the Zócalo and Metropolitan Cathedral, the Aztec Templo Mayor, Chapultepec Park, Paseo de la Reforma and the city’s main avenues. You’ll have free time for lunch around the Zócalo.In the afternoon we visit the Basilica of Guadalupe – the most visited Catholic shrine in the Americas – where we see both the old basilica from the 18th century and the modern temple. As evening falls, we head to Plaza Garibaldi, known for its cantinas, restaurants and bars where tacos and tequila are served and Mariachi bands perform. Dinner is included at a typical Mexican restaurant.
Day 3 - Mexico City - Mine two star - Tlalpujahua - Patzcuaro
We leave Mexico City for the mountain and forest region where monarch butterflies spend the winter. We visit La Mina de las Dos Estrellas – a former mine turned museum that highlights the area’s mining heritage. We then continue to Tlalpujahua, a Pueblo Mágico in Michoacán noted for its Baroque sanctuary, cobbled streets and tradition of handcrafted Christmas ornaments – many shops display Santa Claus figures. You’ll have free time here to stroll and enjoy lunch. We carry on to Pátzcuaro for a panoramic tour of this beautiful colonial city, known for its pre‑Hispanic roots, colonial architecture and lively craft markets.
Day 4 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Tlaquepaque - Guadalajara
From Pátzcuaro we depart for Morelia – the capital of Michoacán and a UNESCO World Heritage city celebrated for its pink-stone architecture and elegant historic centre. We’ll take in the Cathedral, Plaza de Armas and the University of Morelia, founded in 1540. You’ll then have free time to wander and choose a spot for lunch.In the afternoon we travel via Tlaquepaque, a Pueblo Mágico known for mariachi music, live performances, artisan shops and excellent local cuisine. We continue to Guadalajara – the capital of Jalisco and the birthplace of mariachi and tequila – arriving in the late afternoon.
Day 5 - Guadalajara
In the morning we set out to explore Guadalajara – a vibrant modern metropolis with a graceful colonial centre. We take in the cathedral, the central market and Plaza Tapatía, and we enter the Hospicio Cabañas – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the city visit, we continue to the nearby town of Tequila, where we include entrance to the Mundo Cuervo distillery to see how this renowned Mexican spirit is made – tasting included. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to wander the picturesque streets and choose a spot for lunch. We return to Guadalajara after lunch.
Day 6 - Guadalajara - Guanajuato
We travel this morning from Guadalajara to the state of Guanajuato, arriving at midday. In the afternoon, we include a city tour of this beautiful university city – a World Heritage site known for its steep slopes, narrow streets and historic churches – and we take a cable car up to the El Pípila viewpoint to enjoy sweeping views over the city.
Day 7 - Guanajuato - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel de Allende - Queretaro
We leave Guanajuato and drive through the mountains to Dolores Hidalgo – the birthplace of Mexican independence. We then continue to the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, known as the Sanctuary of God and Country and designated a World Heritage Site; please note that access to the interior may be restricted during religious retreats. Afterwards we explore San Miguel de Allende, another World Heritage city celebrated for its colonial architecture and cobbled streets, and you will have time to stroll at your own pace. Later we arrive in Querétaro – renowned for its elegant colonial centre, Plaza de Armas, and lively restaurants and pedestrian streets.
Day 8 - Queretaro
Morning at leisure in Querétaro – time for you to explore its UNESCO‑listed historic centre, founded in 1531 and pivotal to Mexico’s independence and the Revolution. You can wander cobbled streets and lively squares lined with colonial buildings and baroque churches, and, if you wish, visit the 18th–century aqueduct, gardens and local markets. In the afternoon we travel 40 km to Hacienda Atongo, a historic seventeenth–century estate, for a guided tour brought to life by costumed characters and short theatrical performances. We’ll explore the main buildings and the vineyard, and enjoy a refreshing drink made from the estate’s own wine before returning to Querétaro.
Day 9 - Queretaro
From Querétaro, we head to the Pueblo Mágico of San Sebastián de Bernal, a peaceful town at the foot of what is considered the world’s third largest monolith. The town is known for its skilled textile artisans. We then continue to Tequisquiapan – noted for its mineral water spas and colonial style buildings along cobbled streets – a place renowned for handmade crafts, especially woven baskets at the artisan market. A guided tour is included to explore the local history. We also visit the San Patricio Winery and the Bocanegra Cheese Cellar to learn about cheese production and the particular challenges of winemaking at altitude, and we round off the day with a tasting of regional wines.
Day 10 - Queretaro - Mexico City
We continue to Mexico City by scheduled public bus – the journey takes around three hours. On arrival, our local assistant will meet us and accompany us to the hotel.
Day 11 - Mexico City
After breakfast, our services conclude in Mexico City – the transfer to the airport is not included, so you will need to arrange this independently.
