Day 1 - Lisbon - Fatima - Porto
Welcome to your tour. We travel north from Lisbon to Fátima, one of Portugal’s major pilgrimage sites, before continuing to Porto – the country’s second–largest city. After lunch, we enjoy a 50–minute cruise on the Douro aboard a traditional Rabelo boat for views of the riverfront and its bridges. Afterwards, you have free time to explore the medieval Ribeira district, known for its narrow streets, historic merchant houses and cafés, before we head to the hotel.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Porto - Braga - Bom Jesus - Guimarães - Aveiro - Coimbra
We travel through northern Portugal, beginning with a stroll in Braga – the country’s religious capital – and take the world’s oldest funicular up to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus for wide-ranging views. You may choose to walk back down to appreciate its baroque stairway. We then continue to Guimarães, the first capital of Portugal, where the Palace of the Dukes reflects its historic importance. You have free time for lunch. In the afternoon we head west to the Atlantic coast and Aveiro – the “Venice of Portugal” – known for its canals and colourful houses. We include a ride on a traditional moliceiro boat to explore the canals and salt flats, and on board we taste a typical local sweet. We continue to Coimbra, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 3 - Coimbra - Batalha - Nazare - Obidos - Lisbon
We spend time in Coimbra – Portugal’s third-largest city – exploring the area around its old University and its steep, characterful streets. We then head south to the Monastery of Batalha – entrance included – an impressive medieval mausoleum of kings. In Nazaré, a traditional fishing town and seaside resort, you will have time for lunch and a leisurely stroll. We take the lift up to the old town – tickets included – for expansive ocean views. Continuing towards Lisbon, we pause in Óbidos to wander its white streets lined with flowers. We expect to arrive in Lisbon at around 19:30.
Day 4 - Lisbon
After breakfast, we conclude the tour in Lisbon – your journey ends here. We hope you’ve enjoyed your time in Portugal and wish you a smooth onward journey.
