Day 1 - Barcelona
Welcome to the start of your adventure in Barcelona. Upon arrival, we'll whisk you away to your accommodation, allowing you some time to settle in and unwind. The afternoon is at your leisure, an ideal opportunity to begin exploring this vibrant city at your own pace. You’ll find essential information about the commencement of your tour on display in the hotel reception area. Enjoy the anticipation of the exciting journey that lies ahead. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Barcelona - Girona
On the second day of our tour, we will set off to explore Barcelona, often dubbed the City of Counts. This lively metropolis by the Mediterranean is celebrated for its stunning modernist architecture, especially the works of Gaudí, the bustling atmosphere of the Ramblas, and a storied past marked by significant events like the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. Indeed, Barcelona is a standout among European capitals for its beauty and charm. In the evening, we depart Barcelona, venturing north into Catalonia. Our destination is the picturesque town of Girona, where we will stroll through its historic centre. Here, you can admire the vibrant houses lining the Onyar River, wander the narrow streets of the old Jewish quarter, and view the magnificent Girona Cathedral.
Day 3 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we'll cross into France, travelling through the picturesque Provence region. Our first stop is Arles, a charming UNESCO World Heritage city notable for its links to the artist Van Gogh. Here, you have the opportunity to visit the Roman theatre and explore the quaint Romanesque churches, with ample time to wander and enjoy lunch. Next, we visit the Carrières des Lumières, where an extraordinary underground art exhibition awaits, featuring captivating displays of art, imagery, and sounds in an ancient quarry setting. We'll conclude our journey in Chambéry, arriving in the evening. This medieval city is the capital of Savoy, renowned for its enchanting historic centre and a grand castle. Note: Should tickets for the Carrières des Lumières be unavailable due to high demand, we will arrange a visit to the famed Pont du Gard, a remarkable Roman aqueduct, instead.
Day 4 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
Today, we travel into the picturesque landscapes of Switzerland, arriving first in Geneva. Here, we’ll explore the city's highlights, including a visit to the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations. Stroll through the delightful English Garden and marvel at the famous flower clock and the Jet d’Eau, the tallest fountain in Europe. Our journey then takes us to the enchanting medieval village of Gruyères, celebrated worldwide for its delicious cheese. Nearby, we'll indulge in a sweet treat at the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, gaining insights into the art of Swiss chocolate-making and enjoying a tasting session. We continue our scenic journey through the beautiful Swiss countryside to Chillon Castle, which majestically sits on the shores of Lake Geneva. Here, you'll have the chance to explore this historic fortress. By mid-afternoon, we reach the charming holiday village of Leysin, which offers stunning views of the Rhône Valley and Mont Blanc. Known for its winter sports and hiking opportunities, Leysin promises a refreshing alpine experience. We’ll conclude our day with a delightful dinner, with accommodation sometimes provided in another charming Swiss town nestled in the Alps, such as Martigny, depending on availability.
Day 5 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today, prepare for the breathtaking mountain vistas as we set off on an exhilarating day of exploration. Dress warmly as we ascend to the stunning Glacier 3000 via cable car, one of Switzerland’s most awe-inspiring destinations. Here, you'll have the chance to walk across the suspension bridge connecting two peaks, explore the mesmerising Ice Cathedral, or enjoy the playful activities at the Fun Park. Afterwards, we’ll pause in the picturesque town of Interlaken for lunch amidst captivating landscapes before continuing to Lucerne, famous for its beauty and charm. As the day winds down, we’ll arrive in Zurich, where you'll have some leisure time to discover the vibrant city centre before we head to our hotel for the evening. Please note that the Glacier 3000 cable car may be closed if weather conditions are unfavourable, in which case an equally impressive alternative experience will be arranged.
Day 6 - Zurich - Strasbourg - Paris
From Zurich, we set off for the enchanting Alsace region in France, where Strasbourg awaits. This captivating city, where French and German cultures beautifully converge, offers a unique experience. You'll have the freedom to wander through its charming streets, soaking in the distinctive architecture and vibrant atmosphere. Following our visit, we proceed to Paris, arriving in the evening.
Day 7 - Paris
Today, we delve into the rich tapestry of French history with a visit to the stunning Palace of Versailles. Although admission isn't included, you have the opportunity to explore the opulent gardens and admire the grandeur of this historic site. On our return to Paris, we’ll explore Montmartre – a vibrant bohemian enclave renowned for its artistic community, painters, and lively cabarets. To capture the true essence of Paris, we’ll embark on a panoramic city tour led by a knowledgeable local guide. This tour will highlight the city's wide, impressive avenues and its most iconic monuments, providing a comprehensive glimpse of the charm that defines Paris. We’ll conclude our day with a return to the hotel. For those inclined, you may choose to attend an optional evening variety show to cap off a day rich in culture and history.
Day 8 - Paris
We begin our day in the heart of Paris with a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower, where you can ascend to the second floor and take in the breathtaking views of the city – tickets for this experience are included. Following this, we invite you to unwind on a serene cruise along the Seine River, lasting approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. This leisurely boat ride provides a unique perspective of Paris’s landmarks from the water. The afternoon is at your leisure, allowing you to explore the vibrant streets and sights of Paris independently. Please note that the transfer back to the hotel is not included. In the event of long wait times at the Eiffel Tower, we may reschedule the visit for later in the day or even on Sunday to ensure convenience. As our journey concludes, we trust it leaves you with treasured memories. Do remember to check your flight schedule, as an additional night’s stay may be necessary.
