Itinerary
Day 1 - Arusha
We depart Nairobi and travel south to the Tanzanian border, cross into Tanzania, and continue to Arusha for an overnight stay – upgraded passengers receive a Serengeti briefing.
Day 2 - Arusha
We depart Arusha early in safari vehicles and travel west towards the Serengeti. As we drive, the landscape shifts from farmland to open plains, signalling our approach to the park. We enjoy game viewing in the Serengeti as we continue towards our campsite – a first glimpse of the wildlife that sets the tone for the safaris ahead.
Day 3 - Serengeti National Park
We spend a full day on safari in the Serengeti – exploring its rich ecosystems on a game drive as we range across the vast plains in search of lions, elephants, cheetahs and other wildlife.
Day 4 - Seronera - Ngorongoro Crater - Karatu
We leave Seronera and drive towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, ascending the crater highlands with sweeping views over the plains. We descend to the crater floor for a morning safari, where wildlife density is exceptionally high – look out for zebra, wildebeest, elephants, lions and, with luck, the rare black rhino. We then exit the crater and make the short journey to Karatu, settling into our camp or lodge for the night.
Day 5 - Karatu - Mto wa Mbu - Arusha
We depart Karatu for the vibrant farming community of Mto wa Mbu, travelling along the main road that links Ngorongoro with the Serengeti corridor. We explore the colourful local market – renowned for rice, bananas and handcrafted wares – and gain a glimpse of everyday village life while sampling regional produce. Afterwards, we return to Arusha, taking time to reflect on our days in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. We arrive in the late afternoon and settle in for the night.
Day 6 - Arusha - Bagamoyo - Bagamoyo
We set off early, travelling towards the south east to Bagamoyo on the Tanzanian coast. We follow one of Africa’s main travel corridors, passing rural villages and lively markets along the way. On arrival in the historic coastal town of Bagamoyo, you have time to unwind – perhaps take a gentle stroll or simply soak up the seaside atmosphere. We prepare for tomorrow’s excursion to Zanzibar.
Day 7 - Bagamoyo - Dar es Salaam
We travel down the coast from Bagamoyo into Dar es Salaam to reach the ferry terminal – the city’s bustle a striking contrast to the quieter beaches we’ve just left. We take the ferry across the Indian Ocean to Zanzibar, arriving on the historic and tropical Spice Island. From the ferry port in Stone Town or nearby we drive up the coast to Nungwi, passing villages and coconut groves before reaching this relaxed seaside base. You have free time to enjoy Nungwi’s white–sand beaches – you can swim, paddle in the Indian Ocean or simply unwind at your beachfront accommodation.
Day 8 - Nungwi
Savour free time on Nungwi’s white sand beaches – you can swim in the Indian Ocean, paddle along the shore, or simply unwind at your beachfront accommodation.
Day 9 - Nungwi - Stone Town
We depart Nungwi and travel south towards the spice‑growing regions near Stone Town, following an inland route that passes small farming communities. We visit a Zanzibari spice farm to learn about the island’s historic spice trade – an insight into the crops that shaped Zanzibar’s past. We then continue to Stone Town, a UNESCO‑listed cultural hub. On arrival, you have free time to explore its narrow alleys and historic waterfront, taking in the island’s blend of Arab, African and European influences.
Day 10 - Stone Town
The tour ends in Stone Town, where we bid farewell to the group. From here, you can continue with your own travel arrangements – or choose to extend your stay in Zanzibar.
