Highlights of Bolivia

Uyuni Salt Flats
The world's largest salt flats stretch for more than 12,000 square kilometres, a vast expanse of barren white nothingness. If you happen to visit after rainfall, you'll find yourself in a daze as the reflections from the salt make it difficult to determine where the sky ends and the land begins. The red lagoon of Laguna Colorada is also worth a visit.

La Paz
You won't want to over-exert yourself in the sprawling city of La Paz, the world's highest capital. It can take a few days to get used to the thin air, but when you do you will want to head out and explore. Ride a cable car over the city, browse the weird and wonderful wares at the La Paz witches market, and enjoy the city's surprisingly good restaurants and nightlife scene.

Lake Titicaca
Bolivia shares the world's highest navigable lake with Peru, and no visit to the two countries is complete without a boat trip. On the Peruvian side, the reed islands of the Uros are a must-visit, and on the Bolivian side of the lake, you can explore the whitewashed town of Copacabana and the Inca ruins of Isla del Sol.

Potosi
Colonial Potosi was founded by the Spanish in the 1540s, and much of its grand colonial architecture remains intact. This beautiful city is also known for its silver, and there are numerous cooperative silver mines still in operation, which are a must-visit for travellers.
