Day 2 - Vienna
Today, we will delve into the enchanting city of Vienna with the guidance of a local expert. Our exploration includes the city's grand boulevards, opulent palaces, and thriving city centre. Later, we will make our way to Schönbrunn Palace, where you can take a leisurely stroll and appreciate its stunning gardens. As evening falls, we will head to the City Hall Square. Here, you have the chance to experience the vibrant nightlife, perhaps enjoying dinner in one of the lively streets nearby.
Day 3 - Vienna - Maribor - Zagreb
On our third day, we set off from Vienna, embarking on a scenic drive through the mountains towards Slovenia. Our first destination is the picturesque town of Maribor, where we enjoy a short stroll around the cathedral and the historic castle. Afterwards, we continue our journey to Croatia, arriving in Zagreb by lunchtime. The afternoon is devoted to exploring Croatia's capital with the guidance of a local expert. We will be treated to a panoramic tour, taking in the city's two significant hills, the charming upper town, and the vibrant new districts. Our day concludes with an included dinner, providing a taste of the region’s culinary delights.
Day 4 - Zagreb - Banja Luka - Jajce - Sarajevo
Departing early in the morning, we'll set off towards Bosnia. Please be aware that crossing the border may take some time due to formalities. As we travel, you'll notice reminders of the Balkan conflict that affected this region during the 1990s. Our route will guide us through the predominantly Serb area of Bosnia, with our first stop in Banja Luka. Here, you will have the chance to explore this city, the capital of the Republika Srpska, which is notable as the second largest in Bosnia after Sarajevo. It is recognised for its impressive fortress and Orthodox cathedral, providing a glimpse into the area’s rich history. There will be time to enjoy lunch before we continue to Jajce. Arguably the most picturesque town in Bosnia, Jajce is renowned for its cultural diversity, historic mosque, ancient fortress, and magnificent waterfall, which you can visit as admission is included. After some time to take in the surroundings, we'll travel onwards to Sarajevo, arriving in the evening. You'll then have the opportunity to wander through the atmospheric historic centre and visit the charming Bazaar – an old Ottoman market famed for its distinct architecture, oriental vibe, and traditional shops. A delightful dinner will await at the end of our day.
Day 5 - Sarajevo - Mostar - Dubrovnik
On the morning of day five, we will delve into the fascinating history and culture of Sarajevo, often referred to as the 'Jerusalem of Europe'. A guided tour will take us through this historic city, where mosques, churches, and synagogues stand as testament to its rich religious tapestry. We will explore the old town with its pronounced Ottoman influences, highlighted by a mosque over half a millennium old and a picturesque fountain. After our morning in Sarajevo, we will journey through some truly breath-taking landscapes to reach Mostar. Here, you will have the chance to wander through the charming historic centre, home to the famous stone bridge that gracefully divides the Orthodox, Muslim, and Catholic communities. There will be time for lunch and a leisurely stroll. Our day will continue as we make our way to Croatia. Be mindful that border processes might take some time. We will arrive in Dubrovnik by the day’s end, where dinner will be provided.
Day 6 - Dubrovnik
Today, we have a delightful day planned in Dubrovnik, one of Europe's most stunning cities. Perched on a cliff and embraced by the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik’s historic centre is a marvel of world architectural heritage. In the morning, we'll embark on a guided panoramic tour, giving us the chance to admire the city's breathtaking beauty. We'll visit key landmarks, including the Franciscan Monastery, which houses Europe’s oldest pharmacy, and the Assumption Cathedral. Our tour also includes a visit to a scenic viewpoint offering unparalleled views of the city. Additionally, we’ll take a short boat trip to the nearby island of Lokrum if the season permits. This small island, only 15 minutes away, features the interesting ruins of an eleventh-century Benedictine monastery, and has even been a notable filming location for the series Game of Thrones. After our excursions, you’ll have some free time to discover the city at your own pace before we head back to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner is included this evening. Please note that from November to March, boat services to Lokrum are unavailable, so the island visit will not be part of the itinerary during these months. On occasion, accommodations may be arranged in Cavtat, a charming coastal town near Dubrovnik.
Day 7 - Dubrovnik
Following breakfast, our tour concludes, allowing you to take with you an array of wonderful memories.
