Itinerary
Day 1 - Baku to Shamakhi
We collect you from Heydar Aliyev International Airport or your hotel in Baku for a direct drive to Shamakhi, one of the country’s historic spiritual centres. Begin at the Diribaba Mausoleum, set into limestone cliffs with a striking geometric design that reflects centuries of Islamic craftsmanship. Thereafter, explore the Juma Mosque – widely regarded as the oldest and largest mosque in Azerbaijan – where successive reconstructions trace a long history of worship. Next, continue to the Yeddi Gumbaz mausoleum complex, whose domed tombs sit above Shamakhi with panoramic views across the surrounding hills.
We change pace at a local Alpaca Farm – meet the animals and see agritourism in action in a rural setting. Around midday, pause at Abgora Wine House for a tasting - sample wines from indigenous grape varieties made using traditional methods, making the experience as cultural as it is culinary. The day winds down at Silent Lake – a secluded mountain reservoir offering a final moment of calm.
After a full day, we drop you at your hotel in Shamakhi for the night. Expect 8–10 hours of touring with an expert guide and well paced transfers between each site.
Day 2 - Journey to Gabala

After a morning departure from your Shamakhi hotel, you'll travel to the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory – a high-altitude research centre where we access working telescopes, explore planetary studies and take in clear Caucasus views. We then descend to Lahic, a highland village of stone paved lanes, copper workshops and hand-built homes, to see artisans preserving long standing techniques.
The route continues to the Zarnava Suspension Bridge – engineered for function yet offering dramatic perspectives over forested valleys and remote riverbeds in the Ismayilli region. We end with a drive to Gabala – known for its elevation and calm mountain air – and check in for an evening of rest. Today runs for about 5–6 hours, with continuous interpretation from your guide.
Day 3 - Gabala to Sheki
We collect you from your Gabala hotel and begin at Tufandag Mountain Resort, taking the cable car for wide views of the Greater Caucasus. Pause at the calm shores of Nohur Lake, then continue to Yeddi Gozel Waterfall to see its tiered cascades set against rocky cliffs.
Next, drive to Nidj, an Udi village where the Chotari Albanian Church offers a direct link to the region’s ancient Caucasian Albanian heritage. Crossing into Sheki, you'll stop at the Bio Garden to learn about local, sustainable growing, then move on to the historic Caravanserai – once a lodging for Silk Road traders. Round off the day at renowned Sheki halva shops for a taste of the city’s signature confectionery before arrival and check–in at your hotel in Sheki. Today runs for approximately 6–8 hours with expert guiding and well–paced transfers throughout.
Day 4 - Exploring Sheki

Sheki’s royal arts and living crafts take centre stage as you set out on a guided city tour. You start at the Sheki Khan’s Palace, renowned for intricate stained glass, geometric ceilings and finely painted frescoes that showcase the city’s courtly craftsmanship. Continue to the ABAD Ceramic Arts Centre, where traditional techniques are expressed in modern forms, then on to the Sheki Museum of History and Local Lore for clear context on Sheki’s journey from Silk Road hub to contemporary cultural centre.
You'll add breadth at the Sheki Art Gallery before stepping into the Craftsmen’s House for a live Shebeke Workshop demonstration – stained glass windows assembled precisely without glue or nails. Thereafter, finish at the Fazil Necropolis, a quiet historic site that places the day’s artistry in a deeper timeline. The tour runs for approximately 4–5 hours with expert guidance throughout and a well paced sequence of stops.
Day 5 - Exploring Sheki Continued

Devote the day to Sheki’s sacred heritage and silk traditions. You begin at the Kish Albanian Church – among the Caucasus’ oldest Christian sites – where careful restoration reveals early layers of regional faith and architecture. Continue to the Shekihanovs’ House, an elegant 19th–century residence offering a clear window onto the lifestyle of Sheki’s former nobility.
At the Sheki Silk Factory we follow the journey from raw silk to finished textiles – a living thread of the historic Silk Road economy. From there, we pause at the compact Khan Mosque for its measured Islamic design, then step into the historic Abdulkhaliq Hammam to understand the social and ritual place of bathhouses in urban life.
End at the Az Abrau Wine Museum to trace local winemaking through curated artefacts and enjoy a refined tasting of regional wines. Expect around 5–7 hours of guided touring with well–timed transfers and short walks between centrally located sites, keeping the pace unhurried and the experience focused.
Day 6 - Qakh and the Ilisu Region
Broaden the journey into Qakh and the Ilisu region, pairing highland scenery with layered history. You begin at Kurmuk Temple – an elevated sanctuary with deep roots in Christian tradition – then continue to the Qum Basilica, where early Christian architecture shows influences less common in central parts of the country.
A short drive brings you to Sumug–gala Castle for its fortifications and open mountain views, before we move on to the Ulu Bridge – a 17th–century crossing still serving the community – and the nearby Ulu Mosque, a compact example of Islamic architecture adapted to small mountain settlements. We then explore the Icheri Bazaar, Qakh’s old quarter, to see preserved facades and traditional street layouts.
In Lekit Village, we pause at the Honey House for a tasting of local products and insight into small–scale mountain enterprise, and we conclude at the Qakh History and Ethnography Museum, where curated archaeological finds and ethnographic artefacts frame the day’s sites in context. Expect around 6–7 hours of guided touring with short road transfers between stops. Head back to Sheki for the night.
Day 7 - Return to Baku

After a relaxed breakfast, you check out and make a final stop at Sheki Bazaar – a lively mix of local crafts, regional specialties and seasonal produce – for a last taste of everyday life. You can pick up any final treats before we set off by road for your onward journey to Baku or to the Georgian border at Lagodekhi. En route, our guide shares concise insights and regional highlights to round off the experience. Transfer time is approximately 3–7 hours, depending on your chosen destination – a smooth, reflective finish to your time in Sheki.
