Welcome to China! Upon your arrival, we will arrange a transfer to your hotel as you settle into the vibrant city of Shanghai. With a population exceeding 15 million, Shanghai is not only China's largest commercial port but also its most cosmopolitan city, offering a unique blend of modernity and tradition. Day 2 - Shanghai
On the second day in Shanghai, we dive straight into the city’s mesmerising blend of the futuristic and the traditional. We begin our exploration in Pudong, the city’s vibrant financial district, where gleaming skyscrapers, including the renowned Pearl Tower, dominate the skyline. To see Shanghai from another perspective, we’ll embark on a scenic ferry ride across the Huangpu River. This journey gifts us with panoramic views of the city, revealing the harmonious juxtaposition of its historic and modern facets.Our adventure continues as we delve into the Old City and visit the tranquil Yuyuan Garden, a masterpiece of Ming Dynasty landscape design, where classical Chinese art and architecture come together. Here, we’ll partake in a traditional tea ceremony, offering a genuine insight into China’s rich cultural fabric.Next, we meander through Xintiandi, one of Shanghai’s most fashionable districts, bustling with stylish boutiques and charming cafés. We’ll pause here for a delicious lunch, which is included in the day’s itinerary.In the afternoon, we’ll wander through Tianzifang, a labyrinthine area known for its eclectic mix of craft shops and contemporary galleries. As our day winds down, we’ll take a leisurely walk along The Bund, where we can admire the grandeur of colonial-era architecture – a legacy of Shanghai’s international trading past.The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. You might choose to experience Shanghai's nightlife with an optional boat trip, offering a unique chance to see the city’s dazzling lights reflected on the river – an experience sure to leave a lasting impression.
Day 3 - Shanghai - Luoyang
On day three, we begin with an early morning transfer to the train station to catch a high-speed train scheduled for departure at 07:17 a.m. This five-hour journey covers 1,000 kilometres, offering glimpses of China's stunning countryside. Upon arrival in Luoyang, enjoy an included lunch before we head to the extraordinary Longmen Buddhist Caves. These caves, stretching for over a kilometre along rocky river cliffs, house more than 100,000 Buddha sculptures carved into the stone, marking it as one of China’s significant archaeological treasures. A scenic boat ride along the river enhances our visit, allowing us to soak in the grandeur of this historical site.Following this, we will transfer to the ancient city of Luoyang, where we'll traverse its imposing walls and explore streets bustling with traditional charm and vibrant local life, beautifully illuminated in the evening.
Day 4 - Luoyang - Longmen - Sanmexia - Xian
We start our day on the outskirts of Luoyang with a visit to the White Horse Buddhist Monastery, a historic beacon of Buddhist scholarship attracting learners and devotees globally. Next, we head to Sanmenxia, a city steeped in history, where we'll marvel at the formidable Yellow River and visit the Baolun Temple, renowned for its impressive pagoda. We'll also explore the esteemed Guo Museum, which houses the ancient funeral carriages of the State of Guo, offering a captivating insight into the region's history. Lunch is included. Our journey continues eastward, passing by the sacred peak of Mount Hua—a site of profound spiritual significance and dramatic natural beauty. By late afternoon, we will arrive in Xian, concluding our eventful day.
Day 5 - Xian
Today we start our exploration in Xian, a city renowned as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road. Our morning begins with a visit to the astonishing Terracotta Army. This remarkable archaeological site reveals thousands of life-sized clay soldiers standing in formation, eternally guarding the tomb of China's first emperor. Later, we'll head back into the heart of Xian to discover the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, an exquisite Buddhist structure that has stood for more than a millennium. Our adventure continues as we delve into Xian's historic walled centre. Here, we'll wander through the bustling Muslim Quarter, a testament to the rich fusion of cultures and religions that have shaped the area over centuries, and explore the impressive Great Mosque. As part of our tour, we're invited into the Drum Tower to enjoy a brief performance of traditional Chinese music played on ancient instruments. The harmonies offer a vibrant glimpse into China's musical heritage. After our organised activities, you will have free time to explore the city at your own pace, discovering hidden gems and experiencing more of Xian's vibrant atmosphere.
Day 6 - Xian - Linfen - Wang Family Mansion - Pingyao
We embark on a high-speed train journey from Xian to Linfen, covering the distance in under three hours. Upon arrival, our coach takes us to the grand Mansion of the Wang Clan. Built between the 17th and 19th centuries, this splendid estate is a testament to the opulence of traditional Chinese architecture. After a provided lunch, we continue our journey to Pingyao, renowned as China's best-preserved ancient city. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, with over 4,000 historic buildings, provides a fascinating glimpse into China's rich history. We'll explore its charming streets, where age-old traditions thrive. Access to the temples, mansions, and city walls is included, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in Pingyao's remarkable atmosphere.
Day 7 - Pingyao - Wutai
Today, we venture to the sacred Wutai Mountain, a place of profound spiritual significance nestled among lush forests and rolling hills. As a major centre of Lamaism—a form of Buddhism deeply rooted in this region—Wutai Mountain is home to a thriving monastic community. Here, you'll find over 40 ancient monasteries, with numerous others built in more recent times, creating an atmosphere of tranquillity and spiritual energy unique to this site.With our guide, we will visit Nanshan Temple, a site renowned for its serene beauty and historical importance. Following this, you will have the opportunity to explore several lesser-visited temples on your own, where you can observe the monks engaging in their daily practices. The day promises to be both enriching and spiritually uplifting. Dinner is included, allowing you to reflect on the day's experiences amidst the peaceful surroundings of Wutai Mountain.
Day 8 - Wutai - Yanmen Pass - Yingkxian - Hanging Temple - Datong
After enjoying breakfast, we embark on a journey through picturesque mountain roads leading us to Yanmen Pass, situated near the Mongolian border. Here, we will explore a secluded segment of the Great Wall of China. This walk offers a serene opportunity to fully appreciate the grandeur of this ancient marvel, away from the usual crowds. Our adventure continues as we proceed to Yingxian, a charming village renowned for its extraordinary wooden pagoda, celebrated as an architectural masterpiece. Lunch is on us. In the afternoon, prepare to be amazed by the Hanging Temple of Xuankong, an astonishing structure clinging to a cliff, seemingly defying the laws of gravity. As the day unfolds, we'll travel by coach to Datong. Upon arrival, you'll have time to wander through its historic centre, admire its formidable city walls, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this beautifully restored ancient city.
Day 9 - Datong - Jiming post - Beijing
We start the day by visiting the Yungang Caves, revered as the most breathtaking cave art complex in China. Constructed in the 5th century, this UNESCO World Heritage Site features 252 caves housing over 51,000 intricately carved Buddhist statues, marking it as one of the nation’s most extraordinary cultural landmarks. Our adventure continues as we head to Jiming Post, a small, traditional village steeped in history. Once a rest stop for imperial couriers, this quaint settlement exudes a peaceful, nostalgic charm, offering a glimpse into a quieter era of Chinese life. In the afternoon, we journey onwards to Beijing, arriving by mid-afternoon, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore at your own pace.
Day 10 - Beijing
Today in Beijing, we immerse ourselves in the city's rich heritage with a full-day tour. Our exploration begins at the heart of Chinese history – the Forbidden City, the stunning Great Chinese Imperial Palace. This vast complex, home to 24 emperors over nearly five centuries, epitomises traditional Chinese architecture. Following this, we visit Jingshan Park. If the weather is favourable, climbing Coal Hill rewards us with magnificent views over the Forbidden City.Our next stop is Tiananmen Square, one of the world's largest public spaces. From here, we can observe the striking Great National Theatre, also known as the Beijing Opera House. Lunch is provided, giving us a moment to refuel before continuing to the Summer Palace. This imperial retreat of the Qing Dynasty is famous for its beautiful gardens and tranquil lakes.In the afternoon, we get a taste of traditional Beijing life with a tricycle ride through the historic Hutong neighbourhoods. This experience offers insights into the city's vibrant cultural heritage as we discover traditional shops and visit a Siheyuan, showcasing the architectural charm of classic courtyard houses.The day concludes as we return to our hotel for the evening. Please note that due to preservation efforts, access to the Forbidden City may be restricted; in such cases, our tour will adapt to include visits to the Confucius Temple and the Lama Temple – significant cultural sites in their own right.
Day 11 - Beijing
Today, we are off to visit one of the most iconic landmarks worldwide—the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu. This remarkable architectural feat boasts over 2,000 years of history, gracefully traversing stunning mountainous landscapes. We'll enjoy a cable car ride both up and down this picturesque section, providing us with breathtaking views of this legendary monument.As we make our way back to Beijing, we'll explore the dynamic 798 Art District. Once a military factory, this vibrant area now thrives as a hub of contemporary art, featuring an array of galleries, studios, and creative spaces. Our journey continues at the Temple of Heaven, one of China's most significant sacred sites, celebrated for its architectural splendour and UNESCO World Heritage status. This distinctive complex was historically significant as a place where emperors prayed for good harvests.After this full day of exploration, unwind with a relaxing foot massage followed by a Tai Chi class—offering insight into the harmonious balance of traditional Chinese culture. To conclude our stay in Beijing, we'll savour a lacquered duck dinner, a beloved local speciality that promises to be a delightful culinary experience.
Day 12 - Beijing - Seoul
Following breakfast, we'll arrange your transfer to the airport for your flight to Seoul. Welcome to Korea! Upon arrival, you'll head to your hotel and have the opportunity to meet your guide. In the evening, we'll begin our exploration of this captivating country. Together, we'll navigate the modern and efficient subway system, which you'll be familiarised with, and make our way to City Hall. This striking building is designed to evoke the image of a tsunami. Just opposite, the Deoksugung Palace is magnificently illuminated at night, perfectly encapsulating Korea's unique blend of tradition and modernity. From here, we'll take a leisurely stroll to the bustling Myeongdong neighbourhood, renowned as the country's largest and most vibrant shopping district, aptly named "bright tunnel". Dinner is included at a local restaurant, providing the perfect end to your first day in Korea.
Day 13 - Seoul
Today, we embark on a comprehensive exploration of Seoul, introducing you to some of the capital's most significant sites. Our first stop is the Changdeokgung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by expansive gardens and rich with historical significance. From there, we move on to Bukchon Hanok Village, a picturesque neighbourhood that offers a glimpse into Korea's past with its charming traditional homes. Our tour continues at the War Memorial of Korea, an impressive museum that provides deep insight into the country's history, with particular emphasis on the Korean War—an event that saw soldiers from various nations unite under the UN. After a local lunch, we'll head to the vibrant Gangnam District, renowned for its bustling shopping centres and lively entertainment venues. Our day concludes with a visit to the Lotte World Tower, a towering skyscraper that rises 550 metres into the sky. Here, you'll have some free time to ascend the tower (ticket not included) or explore the nearby park and luxury shopping malls. We'll then return to our hotel where you'll have the remainder of the evening at your leisure.
Day 14 - Seoul - Suwon - Jeonju
On the fourteenth day, we’ll begin with a visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, a majestic site with a rich history dating back over six centuries. Here, we may have the opportunity to witness the ceremonial changing of the guard, adding a vivid cultural touch to our experience. As we depart from Seoul, our first destination is Suwon, the erstwhile capital of Korea, renowned for its imposing UNESCO World Heritage-listed walls. We’ll explore these formidable fortifications and visit Hwaseong Haenggung, the splendid summer palace. After our visit, we’ll enjoy an included lunch to recharge. Our journey continues to Jeonju, where we’ll delve into its captivating historic centre, known as Hanok Village. This area is a treasure trove of traditional houses, unique shops, and art galleries, each offering a glimpse into Korea's cultural past.
Day 15 - Jeonju - Damyang - Haeinsa - Busan
We will start the day by travelling to Sunchang Gochujang Village, situated at the foot of Mount Amisan. This village, with its charming hanok houses and courtyards adorned with hang-a-ri clay pots, is famous for its traditional craft of gochujang, a spicy Korean chilli paste. You'll have the chance to engage in a hands-on workshop, learning to create this iconic sauce under the guidance of master artisans. Our journey continues to Damyang, where you'll explore the serene Juknokwon Bamboo Forest. Considered among Korea's most picturesque paths, these trails offer a tranquil setting perfect for meditative walks and enjoying the crisp mountain air. The visit also includes discovering a variety of bamboo products, especially at the Bamboo Museum. Lunch is a treat as we savour a local speciality: rice served in a bamboo stalk, enhancing its flavour with a hint of earthy fragrance.Later, surrounded by Korea's stunning mountainous landscapes, we will arrive at Haeinsa Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of Korea’s most revered Buddhist temples, dates back to 802 AD. It is renowned for housing the Tripitaka, a comprehensive collection of Buddhist scriptures meticulously carved onto 80,000 wooden tablets. Our day will conclude as we proceed to Busan for the night, allowing you time to soak in the vibrant energy of Korea's second-largest city.
Day 16 - Busan
We begin our day in Busan with a visit to the breathtaking Haedong Yonggung Temple, perched dramatically on the seashore. This 14th-century Buddhist sanctuary offers a unique coastal serenity. Returning to Busan, we'll pay our respects at the UN Memorial Cemetery, a solemn tribute to the many nations whose citizens rest here. Our exploration continues at the bustling fish market near Nampo Port, a lively spot showcasing Korea's vibrant seafood culture, and we'll enjoy lunch in this atmospheric locale.Next, we venture to Yongdusan Park, where the impressive 120-metre-high pagoda offers a striking silhouette against the sky. Our exploration takes us to Songdo Beach, where you can experience the thrill of the country’s first marine cable car. Weather permitting, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the bay. As the day unfolds, we arrive at Gamcheon Culture Village, famed for its kaleidoscope of colourful buildings, intricate alleys, and creative art spaces. Here, you’ll find ceramics workshops and inviting cafes that paint a vibrant cultural picture.We conclude with a return to Busan for an overnight stay, reflecting on a day filled with natural beauty, cultural insights, and memorable experiences.
