Itinerary
Day 1 - Kunming
Arrive in Kunming by flight or train, where you will be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore the city or, if you prefer, join an optional excursion to the nearby Stone Forest. This remarkable site, about two hours’ drive from Kunming, is famous for its striking karst formations and rich minority culture, including the legend of Ashima. Should you choose this excursion, you will meet your guide in the hotel lobby and enjoy lunch before returning to Kunming for your overnight stay.
Day 2 - Kunming - Pu Er - Puer
After breakfast, we transfer you to Kunming railway station for a morning rapid train to Pu’er. Upon arrival, we take you to Nakeli village, once a key stop on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road—a historic trade route linking Yunnan with Tibet and Central China via Sichuan. This network played a vital role in spreading tea from its origins in Pu’er County across China and Asia. After lunch, you can stroll through the village, fragrant with flowers and tea, and join a Pu’er tea-making demonstration and tasting at a local family home or tea workshop. We conclude the day with a short hike along the ancient Tea-Horse trail from Nakeli village towards Pu’er city before returning to your hotel for overnight.
Day 3 - Pu Er - Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture
After breakfast, we travel to Nannuo Mountain, renowned for its long history of tea cultivation. We will hike for around two hours through a tea plantation featuring trees aged between 200 and 500 years, followed by a tea-making experience. After lunch at a local restaurant, we transfer to Xishuangbanna, stopping en route to visit a typical Dai minority village. We arrive in Xishuangbanna late afternoon – an autonomous prefecture in southern Yunnan known for its cultural diversity, tropical climate, and as home to the Dai people, one of China’s 55 recognised ethnic minorities. Overnight in Xishuangbanna.
Day 4 - Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture
After breakfast, we transfer to the Tropical Botanical Garden, established in 1959 and home to over 13,000 species of tropical plants across 35 living collections. The garden is divided into eastern and western sections. The West District is the main highlight, featuring more than 20 specialised botanical gardens, including the popular Exotic Flower Garden. The Eastern District offers extensive old-growth tropical rainforest with well-maintained trails, ideal for those who enjoy hiking. After lunch, we return to Xishuangbanna and visit Manting Park, a natural village-style urban park where you can see the vines area, peacock garden, and traditional Dai and Thai-style architecture, often accompanied by locals dressed in Dai costume. Next, we explore the General Buddhist Temple, built in 615, which is the oldest and most significant Buddhist temple in Xishuangbanna. In the evening, you have the option to visit Gaozhuang night market, the largest in the region, known for its vibrant light show along the Mekong River. Overnight in Xishuangbanna.
Day 5 - Luang Prabang
After breakfast, we transfer you to the railway station for the rapid train journey to Luang Prabang via Boten port. We recommend packing a lunch before leaving China. You will need to follow customs procedures in both China and Laos—please ensure your Laos visa is arranged in advance. Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, your English-speaking guide will meet you at the station and transfer you to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore this charming city independently. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 6 - Luang Prabang
After breakfast, set off on a full-day guided tour of Luang Prabang by minivan. We’ll visit the bustling morning market, explore ancient temples, and see war relics that tell the story of the region’s past. Discover local crafts and learn about the history of the former Lao kingdoms at the National Museum. Luang Prabang is one of Southeast Asia’s best-preserved traditional cities and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Its peaceful atmosphere, tropical setting, and rich cultural heritage make it a truly captivating destination. Lunch is included. You will stay overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 7 - Luang Prabang
After breakfast, enjoy a full day at leisure in Luang Prabang. If you prefer some activity, you may choose from optional excursions. One option is a full-day cycling adventure across the Mekong rice fields, taking you off the beaten track beyond the city. This ride includes varied terrain—gravel and single tracks—passing through remote villages where you can sample local snacks and see water buffalo and goats. The route crosses the Mekong River by local ferry before returning to Luang Prabang. Alternatively, you can opt for a half-day easy jungle trek combined with a village visit, boat ride, and waterfall excursion. This three-hour trip includes a vehicle and boat transfer, a hike through lush jungle scenery framed by karst mountains, lunch in a traditional Khmu village, and a walk to Tad Sae Waterfall (which may be low or dry from February to August). Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 8 - Vientiane
After breakfast, we transfer you to the railway station for a morning train to Vientiane. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel in the city centre for check-in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to relax or explore Vientiane independently. Overnight in Vientiane.
Day 9 - Vientiane
After breakfast, enjoy a full day at your leisure to explore Vientiane at your own pace. This is an ideal opportunity to visit the city’s temples, markets, or riverside cafés, allowing you to experience the local culture and atmosphere independently. Overnight in Vientiane.
Day 10 - Guangzhou
On arrival in Guangzhou from Vientiane (flight not included), you will be met by your guide and transferred to the city. Begin with a visit to the Nanyue King Tomb Museum, home to an ancient imperial tomb dating back over 2,000 years, discovered in the 1980s. The well-preserved site includes a museum displaying the artefacts found within. Next, take a walk around Shamian Island, a historic area divided into French and British concessions during the 19th century under the Qing government. The island offers a peaceful glimpse into Guangzhou’s colonial past. Conclude the day with a visit to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Market before returning to your hotel for overnight.
Day 11 - Guangzhou - Kaiping - Guangzhou
After breakfast, we set off on a full-day excursion to Kaiping. Here, you will explore the Diaolou – distinctive multi-storey watchtower houses built between the Ming Dynasty and the early 20th century. These unique structures are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. We will visit the notable Diaolou in Liyuan and Lizi villages, gaining insight into their architectural and historical significance.
