On the second day of our adventure in Cairo, we will embark on a captivating journey exploring the world-renowned Pyramids of Cheops, Kefren, and Micerinos. While tickets for entry into the pyramids are not included, their sheer magnificence can be admired from the outside. Accompanying this visit is the iconic Sphinx, impressively sculpted from rock. Our exploration continues with a visit to the Egyptian Museum, home to ancient artefacts including the treasured finds from Tutankhamen's Lost Tomb. Lunch is provided during this fulfilling day of historical discovery. Our day also includes a visit to the Citadel of Saladin and the stunning Alabaster Mosque, offering an insight into Cairo's Islamic architecture. Later, we'll take a stroll through the Coptic neighbourhood, where we will visit the remarkable Hanging Church, intriguingly built over a Roman fortress.
Day 3 - Cairo - Luxor
After enjoying breakfast, we'll transfer you from your hotel in Cairo to the airport for a flight to Luxor, which is included in the itinerary. Upon arrival in Luxor, you'll be transferred to our cruise ship, where you'll check in and settle into your accommodation. Throughout the cruise, all meals are provided. Today, we'll be visiting the awe-inspiring temples of Luxor and Karnak, which are among Egypt's most significant sites. Both temples offer a fascinating glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Egyptian architecture, with Karnak being one of the largest religious complexes ever built. You'll have accommodation on board the ship, ensuring a comfortable stay as we begin our Nile River journey.
Day 4 - Luxor - Esna
Your exploration today takes you to the awe-inspiring Necropolis of Thebes, where you'll visit the renowned Valley of the Kings. Here, hidden within a network of chambers and corridors, lie the tombs of legendary pharaohs such as Ramses III, Seti I, and Amenhotep II. The day continues with a visit to the Colossae of Memnon, featuring two grand statues of Amenhotep III, and the striking Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari. Additionally, you’ll explore the Temple of Medinet Habu. Throughout the day, enjoy the serene beauty of the Nile's riverbanks. In your free time aboard the boat, you might consider various on-board activities, and as the evening unfolds, there's music to enjoy at the disco. Your journey continues overnight as we navigate towards Esna, dining and resting comfortably on full board.
Day 5 - Esna - Edfu - Kom Ombo - Aswan
Today, we arrive in Edfu and explore the magnificent Temple of Horus, distinguished by its representation of the falcon god. Previously obscured by deposits from the Nile's seasonal floods, this temple has undergone extensive restoration, providing us with one of the most splendid examples of Ptolemaic architecture, remarkably well-preserved. Our journey continues with a leisurely sail to Kom Ombo, where we visit the unique temple dedicated to two deities, Sobek and Haroeris. Here, you'll also find an ancient Nilometer, a device used to measure the Nile's water levels, and a fascinating collection of mummified crocodiles. As the evening unfolds, we can partake in a traditional Chilaba's party on board, where you might wish to don local attire available at nearby markets. Enjoy full board and settle in for another night on the cruise as we set sail towards Aswan.
Day 6 - Aswan
Upon our arrival in Aswan, you will have the opportunity to join an optional excursion to Abu Simbel–a monumental site located 280 kilometres from Aswan in the western desert. Here, you can marvel at the temples carved into the cliffs by Ramses II during the 12th century BC. The site features 20-metre-high statues dedicated to the god Amon Ra and the Temple of Nefertari, devoted to the goddess Hathor. Our planned activities include a visit to the Red Granite quarry to observe the famous 41-metre-high Unfinished Obelisk, as well as a tour of the impressive Aswan Dam, one of the largest in the world, which formed Lake Nasser, extending over 500 kilometres. We will also explore the beautiful Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis, located on a charming island accessible only by boat. In the afternoon, we will embark on a leisurely felucca cruise on the Nile, sailing to Kitchener Island, where the enchanting Botanical Garden awaits. Enjoy the full board experience as we spend the night onboard.
Day 7 - Aswan - Cairo
After breakfast, we will head to the airport for our included flight back to Cairo. Upon arrival, we'll transfer to the hotel for check-in. As evening approaches, we’ll have the opportunity to marvel at the captivating Light and Sound Show at the Giza Pyramids, an enchanting display that brings the ancient world to life through stunning illumination and compelling narration. After this memorable experience, you'll return to your hotel for the night, allowing you to reflect on the mesmerizing sights of the day.
