We had a great holiday, the historical guide was really nice and very flexible to adapt his tour and explanation to my son's needs/wishes
The hotel was exceptional, the staff, restaurants and the location (El Baadi) were fantastic.”
Mahmoud was an absolute pleasure to have as our guide. He is extremely intelligent, funny, and thoroughly enlightening with his depth of knowledge about nearly every aspect of Jordan. We hated to part ways with him! We feel like we made a great friend and highly recommend him for use with your tours.”
Loved all my tours and guides ,was great having your own private guide learnt so much ”
Archaeological hidden gems
The Temple of Hathor at the cult site of Dendera is one of the best preserved ancient buildings in all of Egypt, but surprisingly not one of the most frequented. Built at the very end of the Pharaonic period the temple remains virtually intact with a great stone roof, towering columns, dark chambers, underground crypt and winding stair cases all carved with hieroglyphics. Dendera and its wonders are only a short distance from Luxor and can easily be explored on a day trip.
Inspirations for a holiday in Egypt
If you’ve already got the main highlights you want to see pencilled in to your tailor made itinerary, consider filling in the gaps with some unique cultural experiences. Here’s our pick of recommendations to get you inspired.
Abydos and Dendera
While famous temples like Karnak and Luxor top most travellers bucket lists there are plenty of other impressive sites off the beaten track. Located in rural Egypt, the temples of Dendera and Abydos are the perfect examples of this as not only are they fascinating and peaceful to explore away from the crowds, but they also give you the chance to see the rural way of life that still pervades in the area.
Take the plunge and explore the underwater world of the Red Sea, teeming with fish and brightly colourful coral reefs. Hurghada is a hotspot for divers and snorkelers alike and it’s no wonder why with classic wreck sites, impressive reefs and submarine caves. Whether you are a beginner, pro-diver or prefer to stick to a snorkel and mask you are sure to be impressed by the underwater delights of Hurghada.
Once the centre of the Ancient World, rivalling the great cities of Athens and Rome, today Alexandria is a thriving modern metropolis but evidence of its past can still be found above and below the city’s streets. Heading underground discover a vast network of staircases, passages and tombs thought to form the largest Roman burial site in Egypt.
While most travellers will not leave Egypt without spending a night or two cruising down the Nile, if you’ve got some extra time on your hands consider spending some time on Lake Nasser too. Here you can reach otherwise inaccessible ancient monuments and temples, including the Temple of Amada and Kalabsha. But the real highlight here are the awe-inspiring rock-cut temples of Abu Simbel, which are an absolute must see on any trip to Egypt.
