Itinerary
Day 1 - Delhi
Arrive in Delhi, clear airport formalities and meet our local representative for a warm welcome to India’s capital. We transfer to your city hotel and you settle in – you have free time to rest after the flight. Later we meet for a short briefing on the journey to come.
Day 2 - New Delhi - Old Delhi
We explore New Delhi’s grand avenues, taking in India Gate and stately government buildings, and pass landmarks including Humayun’s Tomb and Bangla Sahib Gurudwara. We join locals on the metro from Connaught Place to Old Delhi – a glimpse of modern transport on the way to the city’s historic heart. We wander the buzzing lanes of Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar, browsing shops piled with brass, copper, paper goods and everyday essentials. With our guide we sample classic street food and learn about the flavours that make the city’s cuisine so renowned. We then take a cycle rickshaw through Old Delhi’s narrow streets as daily life unfolds around us, finishing at Jama Masjid to admire its vast courtyard and striking Mughal architecture over the old city.
Day 3 - Delhi - Agra
We leave Delhi and travel through rural Uttar Pradesh towards Agra – passing small towns and patchwork fields on the way to the city of the Taj Mahal. We pause at Sheroes Hangout Café for an included lunch and to hear the powerful stories of the survivors who run it. We continue with a guided heritage walk through Kachhpura village and surrounding farmland across the Yamuna from the Taj, gaining insight into local life, traditional homes and small scale industries. Later we stroll through Mehtab Bagh, the riverside garden opposite the monument, and linger for atmospheric sunset views of the Taj across the river.
Day 4 - Agra
We rise early to visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise, watching the changing light soften its white marble as we hear the story of Shah Jahan’s monument to love. We then depart Agra and drive into rural Rajasthan towards Suroth – the scenery shifting from city streets to villages and farmland. On arrival we take a guided walk through Suroth’s narrow lanes and market, visit a small temple and see everyday village life up close. In the evening we enjoy a cooking demonstration at Suroth Mahal before dinner – a chance to learn how traditional dishes are prepared in a historic setting.
Day 5 - Suroth - Jaipur - Abhaneri
We depart Suroth and travel towards Jaipur through rural Rajasthan, stopping en route to explore the famed stepwell at Abhaneri – Chand Baori – one of the country’s largest and deepest. We admire the intricate geometry of its steps and the sheer scale of this ancient water structure. On arrival in Jaipur you have free time to explore at your own pace – relax at your heritage hotel or wander nearby streets and markets.
Day 6 - Jaipur
We explore Amber Fort – the majestic hilltop palace overlooking Jaipur – wandering through ornate courtyards and halls of marble and sandstone. We continue into the city to tour Jantar Mantar and the City Palace, learning how Jaipur’s rulers blended science, architecture and royal tradition. We stroll through the walled city to watch jewellers, silversmiths and textile artisans at work, then meander among colourful bazaars – you can browse at leisure. We join a block printing workshop to see designs being hand–stamped onto fabric – you can try your hand at creating a simple pattern with carved wooden blocks. We also watch a gemstone demonstration to learn how stones are cut and polished and why Jaipur remains a major centre for the gem trade.
Day 7 - Jaipur - Delhi - Delhi
We depart Jaipur and drive back to Delhi – travelling across the northern plains between Rajasthan and the capital. On arrival you have free time to rest and refresh after the journey – later we meet our representative for a briefing on the days ahead.
