Itinerary
Day 1 - Nairobi
On arrival at Nairobi Airport, we meet you and assist with your transfer to Eka Hotel or similar. The afternoon is at leisure – you can make use of the hotel’s facilities, including two restaurants, a bar and a swimming pool. This modern hotel offers comfort and convenience before your journey begins. Overnight in Nairobi.
Day 2 - Nairobi - Serena
We leave Nairobi early this morning, travelling through Kenya’s fertile highlands and descending the Rift Escarpment on a road built by Italian prisoners of war – look out for the small chapel at its base. We pass the Longonot earth satellite station and cross the valley to Narok, then continue through wheat and barley fields to the Maasai Mara, arriving at Keekorok Lodge in time for lunch and a siesta if you wish. Later, we set out on our first game drive in the reserve. Keekorok lies on the route of the Great Migration and was the Mara’s first lodge, so wildlife viewing is often outstanding. In front of the lodge, a 300 metre elevated walkway leads through riverine forest to a bar overlooking a dam where hippos and other game are regularly seen. The lodge is unfenced – watchmen are on duty and elephants and buffalo sometimes wander near the grounds. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Maasai Mara.
Day 3 - Serena
After an early breakfast, we head out on a morning game drive in the Maasai Mara National Reserve – home to the fabled Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros) as well as antelopes, gazelles and wildebeest. We return to the lodge for lunch and you can take a siesta, before we venture out again for an afternoon game drive, arriving back as the sun sets. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Maasai Mara.
Day 4 - Sulmac Village
After breakfast, we leave the Maasai Mara and drive through Kenya’s breadbasket – vast fields of wheat and barley – towards Narok, the capital of this part of Maasailand. We cross the wide plains on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, keeping watch for herds of giraffes and gazelles, then climb the Mau Escarpment to reach Lake Naivasha around midday. After lunch and a siesta, we set out on an afternoon boat ride on Lake Naivasha. The rest of the day is at leisure – you can relax or make the most of the activities available at Lake Naivasha Country Club. Overnight in Lake Naivasha.
Day 5 - Naivasha - Nairobi
After an early breakfast, we drive south towards Amboseli National Park, stopping en route for a picnic lunch. We arrive in time for an afternoon game drive as we make our way to Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge at the heart of the park. Amboseli sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro – Africa’s highest peak – and is renowned for elephant viewing at close range. The park’s landscapes include a former lake bed of evaporated salts, fragile grasslands and patches of acacia woodland, with prolific birdlife around the swamps. On our drive we look for a wide range of wildlife, including giraffes, gazelles, lions, cheetahs, leopards and, with luck, rhinos. We reach the lodge around sunset. The central dining area is accessed by a timbered bridge over a meltwater stream, and the lounge and bar open onto a broad terrace with a fire pit for evening drinks. If you wish, you can arrange additional experiences such as sundowners on Observation Hill, bush breakfasts or dinners, Maasai dance performances, visits to Maasai villages and tree planting programmes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Amboseli.
Day 6 - Manyani
After a morning game drive, you have the rest of the morning at leisure, followed by lunch at the lodge. We then drive east into Tsavo West, crossing the Shetani lava flow – a striking expanse of solidified lava from the nearby Chyulu Hills – and continue along a winding road through scrub and acacia. Keep an eye out for wildlife as we travel to Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, set below Mount Kilimanjaro and the Chyulu Hills. One of the first lodges built in a national park, this classic stone property overlooks its own waterhole, regularly visited by elephants, buffalo and other plains game, and features a thatched dining area and a rock-built bar with a viewing terrace over the water. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Tsavo West.
Day 7 - Reykjavik
This morning, we head out on a game drive in Tsavo West, including a visit to Mzima Springs with its underwater viewing windows. After lunch at the lodge, we continue to Taita Hills Game Sanctuary and check in at Salt Lick Safari Lodge. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure – you can watch wildlife from the lodge’s underground hide or from the elevated balconies. Set in the heart of this private sanctuary adjacent to Tsavo West, the lodge’s rooms are arranged in two‑storey blocks radiating from a central pod and linked by elevated walkways that overlook a salt lick and small waterhole, both floodlit at night. Rooms are spacious with modern conveniences, and the restaurant, bar and main balconies also face the waterhole and salt lick. An underground bunker with ground‑level windows offers exceptionally close yet safe wildlife viewing. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Taita Hills.
Day 8 - Mombasa
Enjoy a final breakfast before we head out on a morning game drive in Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. We then return to the lodge for lunch and continue the final leg of the journey to Mombasa, aiming to reach your North or South Coast beach hotel – not included – by late afternoon.
