Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico City. We’ll arrange your transfer to the hotel, and you’ll have the rest of the day free to relax or explore at your own pace. Our guide will get in touch late in the afternoon – they’ll confirm the plan and be available to answer any questions.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
We set out to explore Mexico City. In the morning we head to the neighbourhood of Xochimilco, known for its canals and semi floating gardens, and enjoy a ride on a trajinera – one of the city’s colourful boats decorated with flowers.We then take a panoramic tour, passing the Plaza of the Three Cultures, the historic centre with the Zócalo and its Metropolitan Cathedral, the Aztec Templo Mayor, Chapultepec Park, Paseo de la Reforma and the city’s main avenues. You have free time for lunch around the Zócalo.After lunch we visit the Basilica of Guadalupe – the most visited Catholic shrine in the Americas – seeing both the old 18th century basilica and the modern temple. In the evening we continue to Plaza Garibaldi, famous for its cantinas, restaurants and bars where tacos and tequila are served and Mariachi bands perform. Dinner is included at a typical Mexican restaurant.
Day 3 - Mexico City - Mine two star - Tlalpujahua - Patzcuaro
We leave Mexico City for the mountain and forest region where monarch butterflies spend the winter. Our first visit is La Mina de las Dos Estrellas – a former mine now a museum that showcases the area’s mining heritage and culture. We then continue to Tlalpujahua, a Pueblo Mágico in Michoacán known for its magnificent Baroque sanctuary, cobbled streets and handcrafted Christmas ornaments. You have free time to stroll the town and enjoy lunch – you may notice Santa Claus figures in many of its shops. In the afternoon we travel on to Pátzcuaro for a panoramic tour of one of Mexico’s most beautiful colonial cities, celebrated for its prehispanic origins, colonial architecture, craft markets and vibrant atmosphere.
Day 4 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Cuitzeo del porvenir - Mexico City
We depart Pátzcuaro for Morelia – the capital of Michoacán and a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its pink stone architecture and historic centre. You’ll have time to wander the old town and find lunch – highlights include the Cathedral, Plaza de Armas and the university founded in 1540. We then continue to Cuitzeo del Porvenir beside Mexico’s second–largest lake, where you can visit the Ex–Convent of Santa María Magdalena – a 16th–century Plateresque landmark – and stroll its cobbled streets and historic buildings. We return to Mexico City in the evening, arriving at around 7:30 pm.
Day 5 - Mexico City
After breakfast, our journey concludes in Mexico City. Airport transfers are not included – you will need to arrange your own transport to the airport.
