Day 1 - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico City. On arrival, we’ll transfer you to your hotel – the rest of the day is free. Our guide will contact you in the late afternoon with information for the days ahead. Until then, you can relax or take a short walk in the surrounding area.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Mexico City
After breakfast, we drive 40 km from the capital to Teotihuacan – entrance included. We begin at the Plaza of the Three Cultures, where past and present meet, then continue to the archaeological site to visit the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl, the Citadel and the Avenue of the Dead. We also visit a local artisan centre. On the way back to the city, we stop at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of Latin America. After returning to the hotel, you have the rest of the day free.
Day 3 - Mexico City - Tepoztlan - Cuernavaca - Taxco
After breakfast, we leave Mexico City for the state of Morelos and the Pueblo Mágico of Tepoztlán, set beneath a striking green hillside crowned by a small pyramid. You’ll have free time to wander its streets or browse the artisan market. We then continue to Cuernavaca – the state capital known as the City of Eternal Spring – founded in pre–Hispanic times and later favoured by Aztec nobility and the colonial Spanish elite. We’ll see its main landmarks, including the Palace of Hernán Cortés and the cathedral, and take in its gardens and parks. You’ll have free time for lunch.Our journey then heads into the mountains to Taxco in Guerrero, one of Mexico’s most picturesque Pueblos Mágicos. With colonial charm, cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and renowned silver craftsmanship, it’s a memorable place to explore. You’ll have time to discover the city before we settle in for the night.
Day 4 - Taxco - Acapulco
After breakfast we travel from Taxco through the mountains of Guerrero towards the state capital, then continue to the Pacific coast to arrive in Acapulco. You’ll have free time to enjoy its popular beachfront – choose a seaside restaurant for lunch or take a swim.In the afternoon, we include entrance and a visit to the 17th–century Fort of San Diego, built to protect the city from pirate attacks. After the visit, we transfer you to the hotel for check–in and time to relax.
Day 5 - Acapulco - Zihuatanejo
After breakfast, we continue along the Pacific coast for about 230 km to reach Zihuatanejo – a relaxed seaside town with cobbled streets that has preserved its fishing village character. We include a short boat ride of around 10 minutes to Playa Las Gatas – accessible only by sea – where you can swim, unwind and choose a local restaurant for lunch. We then return by boat, settle into our accommodation and you have free time for the rest of the day. Please note: during peak season, accommodation in Zihuatanejo may be limited – in this case we may depart in the late afternoon to stay in Lázaro Cárdenas.
Day 6 - Zihuatanejo - Janitzio - Patzcuaro
From Zihuatanejo, the scenery shifts as we travel into the green mountains of Michoacán. Our first stop is Lake Pátzcuaro, where we board a boat for a 30–minute crossing to Janitzio, an island inhabited by the Purépecha community, known for preserving its traditions and distinctive butterfly–net fishing. You will have time to choose a local restaurant for lunch, wander the traditional streets and, if you wish, climb to the statue of José María Morelos. We then return by boat to Pátzcuaro, one of Mexico’s most beautiful colonial towns, noted for its pre–Hispanic heritage, colonial architecture and artisan markets.
Day 7 - Patzcuaro - Morelia - Tlaquepaque - Guadalajara
We depart Pátzcuaro for Morelia, capital of Michoacán – a UNESCO World Heritage city celebrated for its pink stone architecture and graceful historic centre. You’ll have free time to wander and find lunch; key sights include the Cathedral, Plaza de Armas and the University of Morelia, founded in 1540. En route, we stop in Tlaquepaque – a Pueblo Mágico known for mariachi, live performances, artisan workshops and diverse local cuisine – where you can browse the shops, enjoy the music and sample something to eat. We then continue to Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco and recognised as the birthplace of mariachi and tequila, arriving in the late afternoon.
Day 8 - Guadalajara
After breakfast, we explore Guadalajara’s historic centre – the cathedral, markets and Plaza Tapatía – with entry included to the Hospicio Cabañas, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We then continue to the town of Tequila for a guided visit to the Mundo Cuervo distillery, including a tasting. After the visit, you have free time to stroll and have lunch in Tequila before we return to Guadalajara.
Day 9 - Guadalajara - Mexico City
After breakfast, we transfer to the coach station and travel back to Mexico City by scheduled luxury coach. The journey takes just over six and a half hours – arrival is around 16:00. Our services conclude on arrival. Please check your flight time in case you require an additional night.
