Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid! Upon your arrival at the airport, we will arrange for your transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is yours to unwind and explore at your leisure until our journey begins. Please keep an eye on the hotel reception area for details about the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. In the evening, we provide a transfer to Plaza Mayor and the vibrant neighbourhood of La Latina, famous for its lively nightlife and tempting tapas restaurants. You’ll have the freedom to dine at a restaurant of your choice, with options ranging from Indian and Chinese to Spanish and Middle Eastern cuisines. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
We start our day with an in-depth exploration of central Madrid. Our tour will take us through some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the grand Paseo del Prado, the majestic fountains of Cibeles and Neptuno, the historic Puerta de Alcalá, and the bustling Plaza de Colón. We’ll also visit the vibrant Plaza Mayor, one of Madrid's main squares rich in history and atmosphere. Following this, we will stroll through Retiro Park, a verdant oasis in the city centre, where we'll admire the picturesque lake and the elegant Palacio de Cristal. Later, we will have the opportunity to delve into the world of football with entry to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid, often considered one of the greatest football clubs globally. You’ll have free time in the afternoon to explore at your leisure, with a relaxed evening return transfer to the hotel.
Day 3 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
In the morning, we depart Madrid and head towards Aragon, travelling through the picturesque landscapes of Castile. Our initial stop is Zaragoza, where we pause to admire the magnificent Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, a renowned pilgrimage destination and iconic architectural marvel. Continuing our journey, we make our way to the tranquil Poblet Abbey, a remarkably preserved medieval monastery that offers a glimpse into the past (entrance tickets are included). By evening, we arrive in the vibrant city of Barcelona, ready to explore its unique cultural offerings.
Day 4 - Barcelona - Girona
In the morning, we embark on a tour of Barcelona, also known as the City of Counts. Nestled alongside the Mediterranean Sea, this vibrant city is celebrated for its dazzling modernist architecture by Gaudí, lively Ramblas, and its rich tapestry of history, which includes the legacy of the Universal Exposition and Olympic Games. Known as one of the most captivating European capitals, Barcelona's charm is certain to enchant. As evening falls, we leave the city behind and travel north into the picturesque region of Catalonia. Before reaching our hotel, we explore Girona, a city boasting a remarkable historic centre. Here, you can discover its vibrant houses, delve into the rich history of the ancient Jewish quarter, and marvel at the grandeur of its stunning cathedral.
Day 5 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we journey from Girona towards France, passing through the exquisite Provence region. Our first stop is the charming city of Arles, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its Roman theatre and enchanting Romanesque churches. This city has a rich artistic heritage associated with Van Gogh. You’ll have time to explore its captivating streets and enjoy lunch at your leisure. Later, we will visit the Carrières des Lumières, an extraordinary underground art space where art, imagery, and sound come alive within an ancient quarry. This immersive experience promises to inspire and captivate. Our day concludes in Chambéry, a delightful town with a medieval flair, boasting a beautiful historic centre and an impressive castle. Do note that if tickets for the Carrières des Lumières are unavailable due to high demand, we will offer an alternative visit to the Pont du Gard, a renowned Roman aqueduct. We aim to create memorable moments as we embrace the strong cultural essence of Provence and Savoy.
Day 6 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
We embark on a scenic journey to Switzerland, reaching Geneva where our guided tour will include the Palais des Nations, Europe's headquarters of the United Nations. Here, we’ll also visit the elegant English Garden, famous for its flower clock, and admire the Jet d’Eau, Europe’s tallest fountain. Our adventure continues to the picturesque and fortified village of Gruyères, a place famous worldwide for its cheese. Nearby, Switzerland's renowned chocolate factories, including Nestlé, welcome us for a delicious stop at the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, where you can savour a sweet tasting experience. We proceed through enchanting mountain roads, passing charming wooden villages, until we arrive at the majestic Chillon Castle, situated on the shores of Lake Geneva (admission included). By mid-afternoon, we reach Leysin, a delightful holiday village offering breathtaking views of the Rhône Valley and Mont Blanc. Known for its winter sports and hiking, Leysin provides an ideal setting for relaxation. A delightful dinner is included. Please note that accommodation may be in another charming Swiss town in the Alps, such as Martigny, depending on availability.
Day 7 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today promises breathtaking mountain vistas, so be prepared with your winter attire. We'll ascend to Glacier 3000 via cable car, a truly breathtaking location in Switzerland where ice and snow can be found all year round. Here, you can traverse the suspended bridge connecting two peaks, explore the fascinating Ice Cathedral, or have some fun at the Adventure Park. After this invigorating exploration, we'll make a stop in Interlaken for lunch before heading to Lucerne — renowned as one of Switzerland's most picturesque cities. As evening approaches, we'll arrive in Zurich, where you'll have some time to explore its city centre before we take you to the hotel. Please note that if adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances force the closure of the Glacier 3000 cable car, we will provide an alternative alpine experience just as impressive.
Day 8 - Zurich - Strasbourg - Paris
Leaving Zurich behind, we venture into the picturesque French region of Alsace, where we will explore Strasbourg, the captivating capital. This city seamlessly merges French and German influences, offering a unique cultural experience. Enjoy some free time to wander through its charming streets and savour the local atmosphere. Afterwards, we'll continue our journey to Paris, arriving in the evening. Prepare to be embraced by the City of Light's enchanting allure as you settle in for the night in this vibrant metropolis.
Day 9 - Paris
Our day in Paris begins with an exploration of the rich history of France at the splendid Palace of Versailles – admission to the palace is at your discretion. Marvel at its exquisite gardens before we return to the city. In the afternoon, we will visit Montmartre, a charming neighbourhood known for its bohemian spirit, where artists and cabarets have left an indelible mark. To capture the grandeur of Paris, we'll embark on a panoramic tour led by a local guide, highlighting the city's impressive avenues and iconic monuments. After the tour, we'll return to the hotel. For those interested, an optional variety show is available in the evening, offering a taste of Parisian night entertainment.
Day 10 - Paris - Rouen
We'll begin our day in the heart of Paris with a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower, where you'll have the opportunity to ascend to the second floor for breathtaking views of the city (tickets are included). Following this, we'll guide you on a relaxing boat cruise along the Seine, providing a unique perspective of Paris’s landmarks. The afternoon is reserved for you to explore Paris at your leisure, allowing you to delve into the city's rich history and culture at your own pace.Around 4:00 p.m., we'll depart Paris and make our way to Normandy, arriving in the historic city of Rouen. In Rouen, you're free to explore the charming medieval centre, renowned for its Roman history, Gothic cathedral, and splendid architecture. This city offers a delightful blend of history and culture, ensuring a captivating end to your day. Please note that if the wait times to access the Eiffel Tower are unusually long, we may rearrange the visit for a different time or day to ensure your convenience.
Day 11 - Rouen - English Channel - Canterbury - London
Today, we'll begin our day with a leisurely stroll through the heart of Rouen, soaking in its historic charm. As the day unfolds, we'll travel north through the picturesque landscapes of France, eventually reaching the English Channel. Here, we'll embark on a ferry crossing, a unique and scenic experience, bringing us to the shores of England. Our first English destination is Canterbury, recognised as the religious heart of the country. Renowned for its historic centre, Canterbury offers a glimpse into England's rich past. As our journey progresses, we'll make our way to London, where you'll have the opportunity to enjoy some free time around the iconic Tower Bridge area. This landmark symbolises the city's rich history and vibrant present before we head to the hotel for the evening.
Day 12 - London
Today, we'll unveil the vibrant tapestry of London on a guided panoramic tour. Our journey through this iconic city will take us past renowned landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, the River Thames, and the majestic Buckingham Palace, where, depending on timing, you might catch a glimpse of the famous Changing of the Guard ceremony. As evening descends, we'll gather at a designated meeting point in Piccadilly to explore Leicester Square, Chinatown, and Soho. These areas buzz with life, offering a variety of theatres and entertainment options. You will have ample time to savour dinner at one of the many delectable restaurants before we regroup and return to the hotel for the night.
Day 13 - London - Colchester - Colchester - Volendam Ferry
We begin our day in London with a visit to the British Museum, one of the world's most prestigious and oldest museums, housing an impressive collection of artefacts from various cultures across the globe. After exploring the museum, you’ll have some free time to enjoy lunch and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Camden. This eclectic district is renowned for its bustling street market, offering a myriad of unique items and international cuisines from its many restaurants and food stalls.Around 4:00 p.m., we’ll set off for Colchester, the oldest recorded town in England. Here, we’ll take a leisurely stroll through its charming, historic streets. Our journey then continues to Harwich, where we’ll board the ferry for an overnight voyage to the Netherlands, relaxing in en suite cabins. Please note, due to limited cabin availability on the ferry, itinerary adjustments may occur. Alternatively, we may travel from London to Amsterdam by a daytime ferry with an overnight stay in Antwerp, or by train or flight to Amsterdam.
Day 14 - Colchester - Volendam Ferry - Volendam - Amsterdam
We arrive in Hoek van Holland around 8:00 a.m. and make our way to Volendam, a charming fishing village known for its traditional Dutch culture and picturesque scenery. Following our visit, we head to Amsterdam for a panoramic tour, highlighting the city's iconic landmarks. During the tour, we'll delve into the renowned Dutch diamond-cutting craft, a fascinating aspect of Amsterdam's heritage. For dinner, we'll transfer you to Rembrandtplein, where you can choose from an array of international cuisines while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. This area, close to the famous Red Light District, is perfect for experiencing Amsterdam's diverse nightlife.
Day 15 - Amsterdam - Hamelin - Berlin
We set off from Amsterdam and make our way to Germany, with our first stop in the enchanting town of Hamelin. Known for its charming streets and shops, Hamelin is steeped in history and folklore, famously linked to the tale of the Pied Piper, beautifully captured by the Brothers Grimm. After exploring this picturesque setting, we continue our journey through Germany, passing the historically significant Marienborn, once a border that divided East and West Germany until the reunification in 1990. Our day concludes as we arrive in Berlin in the evening, ready to begin your exploration of this dynamic city.
Day 16 - Berlin
Delve into the captivating history and dynamic atmosphere of Berlin, Germany's vibrant capital. Our day begins with a fascinating guided tour that brings the city's rich culture to life. From the comfort of our coach, you'll glimpse iconic sights including Museum Island, the towering Television Tower, bustling shopping streets, the remnants of the war-damaged old cathedral, and the striking Brandenburg Gate. As we drive through, you'll also see the Reichstag and the city's expansive green spaces. We will pause our journey to pay visits to two poignant landmarks: the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall Memorial Museum, both offering profound insights into Germany's complex past in the 20th century.
