Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid. On arrival at the airport, we’ll transfer you to your hotel. You’ll have free time until the tour begins – please check the information signs at reception for the time and place of the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. This evening we’ll provide a transfer to Plaza Mayor and La Latina – Madrid’s best-known neighbourhood for nightlife and tapas. You can choose where to dine, with plenty of options including Spanish, Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern restaurants.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
We begin the morning with a comprehensive tour of central Madrid, taking in Paseo del Prado, the Cibeles and Neptuno fountains, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. We then continue into Retiro Park to see the lake and the elegant Palacio de Cristal.Admission is included to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid – considered by many to be the best football club in the world. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure for you to explore at your own pace. In the evening, we provide a return transfer to the hotel.
Day 3 - Madrid - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
Leaving Madrid, we travel to Mérida, capital of Extremadura, to visit the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre within its archaeological complex – tickets included – a World Heritage Site noted for its excellent preservation. You’ll have free time for lunch in the lively, pedestrianised historic centre. We then cross into Portugal for a stop in Évora – another World Heritage city – known for its whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces and cathedral. We arrive in Lisbon in the evening.
Day 4 - Lisbon
This morning, we’ll set out on a sightseeing tour of Lisbon, the city of seven hills – expect charming alleys, iconic tiles, a touch of saudade and bright Atlantic light. We’ll also visit the Belem neighbourhood, from where Portugal’s great navigators set sail in the 15th century. The afternoon is free – you can wander up to Bairro Alto and its viewpoint, or choose an optional excursion to Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. In the evening, we’ll return to the hotel from lively Restauradores Square, known for its bars and cafes.
Day 5 - Lisbon - Fatima - Porto
We travel north from Lisbon to Fátima, an important pilgrimage site, for a visit, then continue to Porto, the country’s second largest city. After lunch, we enjoy a 50 minute cruise on the Douro River aboard a traditional Portuguese rabelo boat, offering a different perspective of the city’s riverside.Afterwards, you have free time to explore the medieval Ribeira district, known for its narrow lanes, historic merchant houses and inviting cafés, before we head to the hotel.
Day 6 - Porto - Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary - Cambados - Santiago de Compostela
From Porto, we travel north through scenic countryside to Braga, where we ride the world’s oldest water powered funicular up to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte for far‑reaching views. We explore the sanctuary, and you can descend via its striking staircase if you wish. Crossing into Galicia, we visit the historic town of Cambados or O Grove in the Rías Baixas, where we board a glass bottom boat on the Ría de Arousa to learn about local mussel and oyster cultivation – with wine and mussel tasting on board. Around lunchtime we arrive in Santiago de Compostela for a guided tour of its medieval streets and renowned pilgrimage sites dating back to the Middle Ages.
Day 7 - Santiago de Compostela - Lugo - O Cebreiro - Leon - Oviedo
We travel along the Way of St James to Lugo, where you’ll have time to explore the historic centre and its UNESCO‑listed Roman walls. We continue to O Cebreiro, a traditional Galician stone village, then on to León, arriving around lunchtime. In León we visit the magnificent Gothic cathedral – renowned for its stained glass windows – and take a stroll through the old centre. We then cross the Cantabrian Range into Asturias, reaching Oviedo by evening. A guided tour of Oviedo is included – either on arrival or the following morning – lasting about an hour and a half and covering the 9th century cathedral, the Calatrava Congressional Palace, Campoamor Theatre and Calle de la Rua. Dinner is included tonight in a traditional Asturian cider house.
Day 8 - Oviedo - Covadonga - Santillana del Mar - Santander
Today we travel from Oviedo into the Picos de Europa, beginning with a visit to the Basilica of Covadonga. We then follow the coast to Santillana del Mar, renowned for its intact medieval quarter, and visit the nearby Altamira Cave Museum – tickets are included. Later we continue to Santander, the regional capital, for a panoramic tour with a local guide that showcases this elegant coastal city and its beautiful bay.
Day 9 - Santander - Bilbao - Foronda Service Area - La Rioja - Zaragoza
After breakfast, we travel to Bilbao for a guided tour of the largest city in the Basque Country – the region’s main economic and cultural hub. We’ll see the Guggenheim Museum, renowned for its striking architecture. You’ll have free time to stroll the surrounding area or visit the museum if you wish. Later, we continue into La Rioja, famed for its wines, and visit the Wine Culture Museum in Briones to learn about the tradition of winemaking. We arrive in Zaragoza in the evening.
Day 10 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
This morning we take a panoramic tour of Zaragoza with a local guide – beginning at the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. We explore works by Goya, visit the Roman theatre and a Renaissance palace, and stroll by the Aljafería Palace. After lunch, we continue into Catalonia to visit Poblet Abbey – a remarkable walled monastery – with tickets included. We then travel on to Barcelona, arriving in the evening.
Day 11 - Barcelona
In the morning, we take a panoramic tour of Barcelona, one of Europe’s most fascinating capitals. Open to the Mediterranean, the city is renowned for Gaudí and its modernist architecture, its lively Ramblas, and the legacy of its World Expositions and Olympic Games. The tour concludes at Maremagnum – a waterfront leisure and dining complex by Columbus Square – where you can stroll through this lively area. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore as you wish. We’ll return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 12 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia
We travel south along the Mediterranean coast, pausing in Peñíscola – a medieval walled town beside the sea – where you’ll have time for a stroll. We then continue to Valencia, arriving around lunchtime. In the afternoon we join a guided tour of this port city on the Levantine coast, which showcases over 2,000 years of history and monuments from different eras alongside the modern City of Arts and Sciences. After the tour, you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace before we gather for an included traditional local dinner.
Day 13 - Valencia - Alicante - Guadix - Granada
Leaving Valencia, we travel through the gentle landscapes of the Valencian Community to Alicante, a Mediterranean city of golden beaches and a historic quarter, overlooked by the imposing Castle of Santa Bárbara. You’ll have free time for a stroll. We then continue south across the arid scenery of Murcia, stopping en route for lunch. Crossing into Andalusia, we make our first stop in Guadix, known for its inhabited cave houses. Its historic centre combines a Renaissance cathedral, traditional neighbourhoods and views of the Sierra Nevada. We continue to Granada, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner included.
Day 14 - Granada
We spend a full day in Granada. If your tour includes tickets, we visit the Alhambra Palace and the beautiful Generalife Gardens – both masterpieces from the Arab era. In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to explore – the cathedral, which holds the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs, is a notable highlight.Important note: Entry to the Alhambra is strictly regulated by law. To secure admission, we issue tickets once your booking is confirmed, and it is essential that you provide accurate personal details at the time of reservation – full name and passport or ID number. Ticket costs are non-refundable if you cancel. In rare cases where an Alhambra visit is not possible, we will instead tour Seville’s Royal Alcázar, which offers similar historical and architectural significance.
Day 15 - Granada - Nerja - Malaga - Ronda - Seville
We leave Granada, taking in changing scenery as we skirt the Sierra Nevada and follow the Mediterranean along the Tropical Coast, where a mild climate all year supports guavas, mangoes and avocados – and formerly sugar cane. We stop in Nerja, a seaside town set against striking cliffs.We continue to Málaga, the capital of the Costa del Sol, lively and with a handsome historic centre. You’ll have time for lunch and a stroll. Afterwards we head into the Andalusian sierras to reach Ronda, a remarkable white town famous for the deep gorge that divides it. We then continue to Seville, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 16 - Seville
This morning in Seville we join a guided city tour, taking in the cathedral with its Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir, and the neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana. After the tour, we enjoy a relaxing cruise on the Guadalquivir – an included boat ride with panoramic views from the river. In the evening, you can choose to attend a flamenco tablao.
Day 17 - Seville
After breakfast, we conclude the tour in Seville. Our services end here – check out and continue with your onward travel plans.
