Begin in Madrid – and end there too – on an 11 day journey that blends culture, coast and classic Spain. You’ll tour Madrid’s highlights with entry to the Santiago Bernabéu, then head via Zaragoza and Poblet Abbey to Barcelona for Gaudí sights and the lively Ramblas. Trace the Mediterranean through Peñíscola and Valencia – expect the City of Arts and Sciences and dinner – before calling at Alicante and the cave houses of Guadix. Soak up Granada’s Moorish views, then continue via Nerja, Málaga and Ronda to Seville for its cathedral, barrios and a Guadalquivir boat ride – before Córdoba’s Mosque–Cathedral and the windmills of Consuegra back in Madrid.

Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid. On arrival at the airport, we’ll transfer you to your hotel. You’ll have free time until the tour begins – please check the information signs in the reception area for details of the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. In the evening we’ll provide a transfer to Plaza Mayor and La Latina, renowned for nightlife and tapas restaurants. You can choose where to dine – options include Spanish, Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern cuisine.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
In the morning, we set out on a panoramic tour of central Madrid, taking in Paseo del Prado, the fountains of Cibeles and Neptuno, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. We then head to Retiro Park – a green oasis in the city centre – to see the lake and the Palacio de Cristal. We include admission to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid – considered by many to be the best football club in the world. You have the rest of the afternoon at leisure. In the evening, we provide a return transfer to the hotel.
Day 3 - Madrid - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
We leave Madrid in the morning and travel through Castile into Aragon, stopping in Zaragoza to see the Cathedral–Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. We continue to Poblet Abbey – one of the best preserved medieval monasteries – with admission included. In the evening we arrive in Barcelona.
Day 4 - Barcelona
In the morning, we set out on a panoramic tour of Barcelona – a Mediterranean city known for Gaudí’s modernist architecture, the lively Ramblas and the urban legacy of its World Expositions and Olympic Games. The tour ends at Maremagnum on the seafront beside Columbus Square, where you can stroll through this vibrant area. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore as you wish. We return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 5 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia
We travel south along the Mediterranean, pausing in Peniscola – a charming medieval walled town surrounded by beautiful beaches – where you’ll have time for a stroll. We continue to Valencia, arriving around lunchtime. In the afternoon we join a locally guided tour of this port city on the Levantine coast, with over 2,000 years of history and monuments from different eras set against the modern architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences. After the tour you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace. We include a traditional local dinner.
Day 6 - Valencia - Alicante - Guadix - Granada
We continue through the landscapes of the Valencian Community to Alicante, a Mediterranean city of golden sandy beaches and a charming historic quarter, dominated by the imposing Castle of Santa Bárbara. You’ll have free time for a stroll. We then travel across the arid scenery of Murcia, stopping en route for lunch. Crossing into Andalusia, we make our first stop in Guadix, known for its inhabited cave houses. Its historic centre blends a Renaissance cathedral with traditional neighbourhoods and views of the Sierra Nevada. We continue to Granada, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner included.
Day 7 - Granada
You have a full day at leisure in Granada, a historic city overlooked by the Alhambra. You can visit the cathedral, which houses the tomb of the Catholic Monarchs, wander the Albaicín and enjoy the views of the Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicolás. Please note that entry to the Alhambra is not included on this tour – if you wish to visit, book via https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es or through companies that organise visits in the city.
Day 8 - Granada - Nerja - Malaga - Ronda - Seville
Leaving Granada, we travel past the Sierra Nevada and follow the Mediterranean along the Tropical Coast – a region with a mild climate throughout the year that supports guavas, mangoes and avocados, and once sugar cane. We stop in Nerja, a seaside town with striking cliffs, before continuing to Málaga, capital of the Costa del Sol, known for its lively atmosphere and beautiful historic centre. You’ll have time for lunch and a stroll in the centre. We then head into the Andalusian sierras to reach Ronda, renowned for the dramatic gorge that divides the town, and continue to Seville, arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 9 - Seville
In the morning, we set out on a guided tour of Seville, taking in the Cathedral with its famous Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir and the characterful neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana. After the tour, we relax on an included boat ride along the Guadalquivir – a scenic way to enjoy panoramic views of the city from the water. In the evening, you can choose to attend a flamenco tablao.
Day 10 - Seville - Cordoba - Consuegra - Madrid
We leave Seville this morning, following the Guadalquivir Valley to Córdoba, famed for its past as the capital of the Caliphate. With a local guide, we visit the remarkable Mosque–Cathedral – tickets included – and explore the historic Jewish Quarter, with its narrow streets and flower-filled patios. You’ll have time for lunch before we head into Castilian lands and stop in Consuegra, where 12 giant windmills stand beside the castle overlooking the La Mancha plain. We visit the Rucio Mill, then continue to Madrid, arriving at the end of the day.
Day 11 - Madrid
After breakfast in Madrid, we conclude the journey. The tour ends here – you may depart at your convenience.
