Day 1 - Antalya
Welcome to Antalya, Turkey! Upon your arrival, we'll be there to transfer you to your hotel. Please check the information boards in the hotel reception area for details about our meeting point and time. In the afternoon, we'll begin our exploration of Antalya, a captivating coastal city home to over a million people. Our tour will take us to Hadrian's Gate, a well-preserved Roman structure, through the charming Ottoman district, and to a breathtaking waterfall that cascades directly into the sea. Dinner will be included, offering you a taste of the local cuisine. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Antalya - Aspendos - Side - Karaman - Nigde
On the second day, we will leave the vibrant city of Antalya behind as we set out for Aspendos. Here, we'll explore its remarkable Roman theatre, acclaimed as one of the world's best-preserved examples. This journey then takes us to Side, where you have the chance to admire the picturesque Temple of Apollo overlooking the sea. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the lively port and bustling streets, soaking up the local atmosphere.As we continue our adventure through the stunning landscapes of Turkey, we will make our way across the majestic Taurus Mountains. These peaks tower over 3,500 metres and are often snow-capped throughout the year, offering a breathtaking backdrop to our travels. We'll pause in Karaman for a look at the exterior of its ancient fortress before pressing onwards to the intriguing region of Cappadocia. Our day concludes with dinner in Nigde, providing a delightful taste of local cuisine.
Day 3 - Nigde - Cappadocia
We'll spend the day immersed in the wonders of Cappadocia, a region celebrated for its extraordinary lunar-like landscapes, centuries-old churches, and intriguing troglodyte villages. Our adventure begins with a visit to Gumusler, a remarkable underground monastery dating back to the 7th century, adorned with some of Turkey's most exquisite Byzantine frescoes. Our journey continues to Kaymakli, an astonishing underground city capable of sheltering up to 30,000 people in its depths. Next, we'll head to Uchisar, where a natural fortress provides sweeping and breathtaking views. After a delightful lunch, we'll explore the Göreme Valley, renowned for its open-air museum and awe-inspiring rock-cut churches, with entry tickets included in our journey. Our accommodation for the night will be in Avanos, and dinner will be provided.
Day 4 - Cappadocia - Safranbolu
This morning, we set off on a captivating journey through the heart of Anatolia, as the landscape transforms into lush greenery on our way north. By early afternoon, we arrive in the charming city of Safranbolu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that once thrived as an essential stop along ancient trade routes. Here, you'll have the opportunity to savour the experience of traditional Turkish tea in the courtyard of a beautifully preserved caravanserai. Dinner will be provided, allowing you to enjoy the local flavours and hospitality.
Day 5 - Safranbolu - Gökgöl Magrasi - Eregli - Istanbul
Today, we will journey along the enchanting Black Sea coast, a region renowned for its vibrant greenery. Our first destination is the Gökçöl Cave, where admission is included for you to explore this spectacular site, complete with an underground river and brilliantly coloured formations. In Eregli, a charming coastal town on the Black Sea, you will have time to enjoy lunch before we visit the captivating Cehennemagzi caves and tombs, steeped in local mythology. As our day unfolds, we will travel onward, arriving in the bustling city of Istanbul by day’s end.
Day 6 - Istanbul
Today we embark on a fascinating exploration of Istanbul. Our day begins with a visit to the magnificent Süleymaniye Mosque – the largest in the city. We’ll then delve into the history of Istanbul by exploring its ancient walls and admiring the bustling activity around the Golden Horn. We'll take some time to soak in the atmosphere of the vibrant fishing district before marvelling at the majestic exterior of Hagia Sophia. A highlight of our itinerary includes a visit to the esteemed Topkapi Palace; here, you'll gain insight into the opulence of the Ottoman Empire as we wander through its stunning courtyards and pavilions. In the afternoon, you’ll have time to discover the city at your own pace, ready to uncover hidden gems across its two continents. As evening approaches, we'll transfer you to Taksim, Istanbul's lively commercial hub. The area offers numerous dining options, and you can enjoy a meal while perhaps catching a glimpse of the quaint old tram that meanders through the district. Alternatively, the nearby Galata Tower awaits those interested in a more historical perspective.
Day 7 - Istanbul
Today, we will embark on a delightful boat trip along the Bosphorus, with tickets included in your package. This two-hour excursion on a private vessel will navigate the strait linking the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, distinctly marking the division of Istanbul into its European and Asian parts. Along the way, you'll observe the vibrant activity on the water, which is brimming with boats of all kinds. The journey will take us under the two iconic bridges connecting Europe and Asia. We will pass by the Sultan's palaces, as well as several traditional wooden houses exemplifying stunning Ottoman architecture. Upon returning to central Istanbul, you'll have some leisure time to further explore this fascinating city at your own pace.
Day 8 - Istanbul
Following breakfast, we bid farewell, marking the end of our unforgettable journey. As you depart Istanbul, carry with you the cherished memories and experiences gathered throughout this remarkable adventure. Safe travels!
