Day 3

Lovely Silk & the Ljuta River

Dubrovnik - Gruda - Ljuta - Dubrovnik. Today's journey begins with a scenic drive through charming villages, leading you to Gruda, where Antonia Rusković preserves the ancient art of silk production. Silk, treasured since Roman times, is upheld here by local women, not for profit but to honour tradition.

Continuing the drive, you'll arrive at Ljuta village to visit the operational 'Mlinica Dvori' Old Mill. Witness the traditional flour production demonstration, powered by the force of water turning the stone mill. Along the Ljuta River, an intricate system of watermills and stamp mills—eight for flour, two for oil, and three stamp mills—reflect the region's industrious past.

We will break for lunch during a visit to the rustic 'Vinica Monković' tavern, before heading back to Dubrovnik for the night.

The Tastes of Croatia

Dubrovnik - Orasac - Ponikve - Ston - Dubrovnik. Today begins with a scenic panoramic ride along the Adriatic coastline. Your first stop is the picturesque village of Orasac, where you'll witness a demonstration of traditional olive oil production, powered by a horse-driven mill. Here, enjoy tastings of homemade cheese, smoked ham, and locally produced wine.

Then, venture towards the Pelješac peninsula, celebrated for its wine, seafood, and historic salt pans. At the village of Ponikve, visit a family-owned winery renowned for its high-quality wines and fresh seafood sourced directly from Mali Ston bay.

We'll then head to town of Ston, acclaimed as the "oyster capital" of Croatia. Marvel at the impressive 5-km long walls encircling the town—second in length only to the Great Wall of China. Explore the ancient salt pans where salt is produced using traditional methods dating back to the Dubrovnik Republic and Roman times.
