Day 1 - Paris
Welcome to Paris. On arrival we arrange a transfer to your hotel, where you have time to settle in and relax. In the afternoon you receive details about the start of your tour – either in person or via the information boards at reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Paris
We delve into the history of France at the magnificent Palace of Versailles – admission not included – celebrated for its splendid gardens. Returning to Paris, we explore Montmartre, the bohemian quarter of artists, painters and cabarets. To appreciate the city’s grandeur, we continue with a panoramic tour led by a local guide, showcasing its great avenues and iconic monuments, before returning to the hotel.
Day 3 - Paris - Tours
We begin in central Paris with the Eiffel Tower, ascending to the second floor – admission included. We then enjoy a relaxing cruise on the Seine of around one hour and fifteen minutes. You have the afternoon free to explore at your own pace. At 5:00 p.m. we depart Paris for the Loire Valley, reaching Tours in the evening – an ideal time for a leisurely stroll and dinner in the historic centre. Note: waiting times for the Eiffel Tower can be long, so the visit may be rescheduled to a different time – or to Sunday – for logistical reasons.
Day 4 - Tours - Bordeaux - Lourdes
We travel south through vineyard country to Bordeaux, whose historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You have time for lunch and to look around – perhaps the Port of the Moon and the Cathedral of St Andrew. We then continue towards the Pyrenees, arriving in Lourdes in the late afternoon, where you can attend the candlelight procession (late March to end October) and visit places of worship. Dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 5 - Lourdes - Carcassonne - Foix - Andorra
We journey across the south of France, first to Carcassonne, where you have time to explore and enjoy lunch in the fortified city famed for its medieval walls, imposing castle and picturesque historic district, La Cité. We continue into the Pyrenees with a brief stop in Foix, renowned for the Château de Foix, then press on through mountain scenery with snowy peaks visible throughout the year, to Andorra, where Catalan is the official language. En route we pause at Sant Joan de Caselles, a small Romanesque church from the 12th century, before reaching Andorra la Vella. You have free time to discover its lively shopping streets or visit Caldea, the largest thermal spa in Europe. Dinner is included.
Day 6 - Andorra - Montserrat - Barcelona
We allow free time in Andorra for shopping or a stroll. After lunch we continue into Catalonia, travelling to the impressive abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat, where we take the rack train up the mountain – included – to enjoy the fantastic scenery. You then have time to explore the sanctuary – entrance not included – before we continue to Barcelona, arriving in the late afternoon.
Day 7 - Barcelona
In the morning we include a panoramic tour of Barcelona, open to the Mediterranean and celebrated for Gaudí and Modernisme, its lively Ramblas and the legacy of its World Expositions and Olympic Games. The tour concludes at Maremagnum by the sea next to Columbus Square, where you can stroll through this vibrant area. You have the afternoon free. We return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 8 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia - Madrid
We head south along the Mediterranean, pausing in Peniscola – a handsome walled town by the sea – for a stroll. We then continue to Valencia, a dynamic port on the Levantine coast, arriving around lunchtime – will you try the famous paella? At approximately 04:30 p.m. we continue to Madrid, with a brief stop at Valencia’s avant–garde City of Arts and Sciences. We reach Madrid between 08:30 and 09:00 p.m., and to welcome you we include a transfer to Plaza Mayor, perfect for pinchos or a glass of wine. Note: depending on the number of passengers, the journey from Valencia to Madrid may be by high–speed train.
Day 9 - Madrid
The morning begins with a comprehensive tour of central Madrid, taking in Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. We then visit Retiro Park – seeing the lake and the Palacio de Cristal – and include admission to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid. You have the rest of the afternoon free. In the evening we provide a return transfer to the hotel.
Day 10 - Madrid
After breakfast our journey comes to an end, leaving you with wonderful memories.
