Day 1 - Paris
Welcome to your tour! Upon arrival in Paris, we will organise your transfer to the hotel where you can unwind and enjoy some leisure time. In the afternoon, you can find useful information about the commencement of your tour on the boards situated at the hotel's reception area. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Paris
On the second day, we’ll set out on a panoramic tour of Paris with a knowledgeable local guide, offering you an enriching insight into the city’s iconic sights and vibrant atmosphere. Following this enlightening journey through the city's highlights, we’ll take you to the enchanting Montmartre district. Known for its bohemian charm, Montmartre is dotted with street artists and cosy restaurants, making it an ideal spot for lunch and a leisurely exploration.After our visit to Montmartre, we’ll head back to the hotel. You may choose to alight at the Louvre during our return journey, providing an opportunity to immerse yourself in the vast collection this world-renowned museum offers. We recommend a visit there for an intimate encounter with art and history. The afternoon is yours to explore Paris at your own pace; perhaps take a leisurely stroll or relax at a quaint café.As night falls, you’ll have the option to experience the vibrant nightlife of Paris by attending a variety show, offering an entertaining glimpse into the city's dynamic culture.
Day 3 - Paris
Today, we will provide transportation to the magnificent Versailles, famous for its grand palace and exquisite gardens. Please note that entry is not included. Following this, the afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure back in Paris. For those interested, our guide can suggest a relaxing boat trip on the River Seine or an explorative visit to the historic Latin Quarter, which offers an insight into the vibrant culture and rich history of the city.
Day 4 - Paris - Rouen - Arromanches - Caen
On the fourth day, we depart early from Paris, embarking on a journey towards the captivating region of Normandy. Our first stop is Giverny, where you can explore the enchanting House of Monet and its magnificent gardens—admission is included. This visit provides an opportunity to delve into the world of impressionist art, a movement significantly rooted in Normandy. Our journey continues to Rouen, the capital of Normandy, famous for its medieval streets and grand cathedral. There, we will have time to wander and enjoy a leisurely lunch. Next, we travel to Arromanches, a poignant location that reminisces about the pivotal World War II landings in France. The day's travels conclude in Caen, where you will have some free time to explore the central district at your leisure. Note that from November to April, Monet’s house is closed to visitors, and the itinerary will be adjusted accordingly.
Day 5 - Caen - Mont-Saint-Michel - Saint-Malo - Dinan - Rennes
On the fifth day of our journey, we depart early from Caen to visit the iconic Mont-Saint-Michel, often referred to as "The Marvel." This extraordinary island commune, encircled by the sea and boasting a historic abbey, provides a unique setting for exploration. Wandering through its narrow streets and up to the abbey promises an unforgettable experience.Continuing into the Brittany region, our next stop is the fortified city of Saint-Malo. Renowned for its formidable walls, this city has a rich maritime history. Here, you will have some time for lunch and to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. As the day progresses, we travel to Dinan, a quintessential Breton village where you'll savour a traditional crepe accompanied by a drink. Finally, we conclude our day in Rennes, the capital of Brittany, celebrated for its impressive and historic city centre. Enjoy an evening of leisure, soaking in the vibrant culture of this charming city.
Day 6 - Rennes - Angers - Tours - Villandry - Amboise
Setting off from Rennes, our journey heads towards Angers, where you have the option to visit the castle, renowned for housing the largest medieval tapestry illustrating the Apocalypse. As we continue to the Loire Valley, we arrive in Tours, the vibrant capital of the region, nestled along the banks of the Loire River. Here, you'll have time to explore the city and perhaps enjoy a delightful lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the Ch?teau de Villandry, famous for its exquisite gardens and floral displays, which you can explore at your leisure. Admission to the gardens is included. The day's adventure concludes as we proceed to Amboise, where you'll settle in for accommodation. Amboise is a city steeped in history, celebrated for its charming medieval quarter. Dinner is included, offering a chance to unwind and savour the local cuisine after an eventful day.
Day 7 - Amboise - Chenonceaux - Chambord - Limoges
Today we delve into the captivating Loire Valley, starting with a leisurely morning exploration of Amboise. This town is famed for the Ch?teau du Clos Luc?, where the celebrated Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years. As we journey deeper into the stunning region, you'll experience the remarkable Ch?teau de Chenonceau, beautifully constructed to span the river ? entry included. Next on our itinerary is Chambord, renowned as the largest ch?teau in the Loire Valley, where you'll gain access to explore its impressive park. Our adventure then takes us into the heart of central France, as we head to Limoges, a city distinguished for its exquisite porcelain craftsmanship. While here, we recommend visiting the historic centre, with the magnificent Saint Etienne Cathedral being a particular highlight.
Day 8 - Limoges - Sarlat - Beynac-et-Cazenac - Rocamadour
We depart from Limoges, heading towards the stunning Dordogne region, known for its historic river and picturesque villages amidst beautiful landscapes. Our first stop is at Lascaux, where admission includes an enlightening visit to both the museum and the replica caves. Here, we'll delve into prehistoric times, marvelling at the remarkable cave paintings. Our journey then takes us to Sarlat, a UNESCO World Heritage town celebrated for its exceptionally preserved Renaissance architecture. You'll have time to wander through its inviting streets and grab lunch. The afternoon leads us to Beynac, where we explore a medieval castle offering sweeping views over the river (admission included). Our destination for the evening is Rocamadour, a striking medieval village renowned for its significant sanctuary perched on a cliff. We suggest walking down the Via Crucis, with the opportunity to take the lift back up. Dinner will be provided, allowing you to unwind after a day filled with cultural and historic wonders.
Day 9 - Rocamadour - Padirac Cave - Collonges-la-Rouge - Saint-Emilion - Bordeaux
On day 9, we will explore the awe-inspiring Padirac Chasm, venturing 75 metres underground to enjoy a serene boat ride along its river—a truly unforgettable experience. Our next destination is the charming village of Collonges-la-Rouge, famous for its striking red sandstone architecture, nestled along the historic Way of St. James. Here, you'll have time to enjoy lunch and soak in the unique ambiance. Later, our journey takes us to Saint-Emilion, a picturesque town at the heart of the world-renowned Bordeaux wine region. You will have time for a leisurely stroll and a chance to appreciate its delightful atmosphere. By evening, we will arrive in Bordeaux, where the city awaits your exploration. Please note that the Padirac Chasm might be closed from November to the end of March due to weather conditions.
Day 10 - Bordeaux - Lourdes
On the tenth day of our exploration, we'll delve into the heart of Bordeaux, a city steeped in history and recognised as a World Heritage Site. You'll be enchanted by features like the mesmerising Water Mirror and can leisurely wander the charming pedestrian streets of the old town, home to the impressive 11th-century cathedral. You'll have time to explore the scenic banks of the Garonne River, where an array of quaint restaurants await your lunchtime visit. If you prefer, you could venture to the Cité du Vin, an exceptional interactive museum dedicated to the culture of wine. In the afternoon, we journey towards the Pyrenees, arriving in Lourdes by mid-afternoon. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the famous sanctuary, and we suggest taking part in the evocative candlelit procession. Dinner will be included, rounding off a day filled with culture and reflection.
Day 11 - Lourdes - Carcassonne - Narbona - Marseille
We continue our adventure through southern France by visiting Carcassonne, famed for its stunning medieval fortifications. You'll have the opportunity to wander and soak up the history at your own pace. After lunch, we progress to Narbonne, where you’ll enjoy free time to discover this historic Occitan city, known for its picturesque old town and laid-back atmosphere. Later in the afternoon, we arrive in Marseille, the second-largest city in France. We suggest taking a stroll around the lively Vieux-Port, bustling with life and brimming with charming small restaurants, where you can savour the local culinary delights.
Day 12 - Marseille - Arles - Avignon - Lyon
Today, we delve into the enchanting region of Provence, renowned for its picturesque villages, stunning landscapes, and rich history. Our first stop is Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its remarkable Roman and medieval heritage. As you wander its streets, you'll uncover the artistic legacy left by Van Gogh, who was inspired by this very city.Next, we visit the quaint village of Les Baux, where admission to the captivating Carrières de Lumières is included. Within these ancient quarries, you'll witness an extraordinary multimedia show blending art, image, and sound. After this immersive experience, we make our way to Avignon, with ample time to stroll and enjoy lunch. Known for the vast Palais des Papes, this city never fails to impress.Our journey continues to Lyon, where an exploration of the old town—another World Heritage site—awaits. Conclude the day with a cable car ride up to Notre-Dame de Fourvière, a striking basilica offering panoramic views over the city.Please note: If tickets for the Carrières de Lumières are unavailable due to closure or high demand, we will instead visit the ancient Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard, an architectural marvel in its own right.
Day 13 - Lyon - Tournus - Savigny Castle - Beaune - Dijon
As we leave Lyon behind, our journey takes us deeper into the beautiful region of Burgundy. Our first stop is Tournus, a charming town notable for its impressive stone gate and magnificent abbey. We then travel to Beaune, where we'll break for lunch and immerse ourselves in the heart of Burgundy's wine country. While here, you might like to explore the wine museum or visit the historic hospice. Our exploration continues with a visit to Savigny Castle, a 15th-century gem nestled in the winemaking countryside. This unique castle houses museums filled with fascinating collections of motorbikes, racing cars, planes, and helicopters. Our day concludes with a drive to Dijon, Burgundy's capital, renowned for its vibrant streets and architectural treasures from the medieval and Renaissance periods. Notably, the elegant Palace of the Dukes is a highlight.
Day 14 - Dijon - Abbey of Fontenay - Semur-en-Auxois - Vezelay - Paris
Today, we depart Dijon and venture to the historic Fontenay Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll enjoy a tour of this renowned Cistercian site with your admission included. Following our visit, we travel to Semur-en-Auxois, a charming medieval town enveloped by impressive ancient walls, perfect for a leisurely wander. Still within the picturesque Burgundy region, we'll make our way to Vézelay, celebrated as one of France's most beautiful villages. Here, the magnificent basilica, a significant starting point of the Way of St. James, awaits exploration. There will be time to enjoy lunch and explore before we set off for Paris, arriving in the evening for a relaxing end to the day.
