Itinerary
Day 1 - New Delhi - Delhi
Upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative and transferred to your hotel. Delhi is a city of contrasts, where the vibrant, historic streets of Old Delhi meet the grand, imperial avenues of New Delhi. Old Delhi, once the Muslim capital from the 17th to 19th centuries, is rich with mosques, forts and bustling bazaars that retain a medieval character. In contrast, New Delhi was designed by the British and features impressive monuments reflecting the legacies of Mughal, Turk, Persian and British rulers. In the evening, we will hold a welcome briefing to introduce the tour and answer any questions. Overnight stay in Delhi.
Day 2 - Delhi
After breakfast, we set out on a full-day sightseeing tour of Delhi, exploring both Old and New Delhi. Begin with a visit to the imposing Red Fort, the largest monument in Old Delhi (closed on Mondays). Nearby is the 17th-century Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque. We then walk through the bustling bazaars of Chandni Chowk, experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of this historic market. Next, visit Raj Ghat, the simple black marble memorial marking the site of Mahatma Gandhi’s cremation. In New Delhi, we see India Gate, a First World War memorial, and the grand avenue leading to the President’s House, flanked by the Parliament and Secretariat buildings. The tour continues with a visit to Humayun’s Tomb, an important precursor to the Taj Mahal. Before returning to the hotel, we stop at Qutub Minar, the tallest brick minaret in the world. Overnight in Delhi.
Day 3 - Delhi - Jaipur
After breakfast, we travel to Jaipur, known as the ‘Pink City’ for its distinctive rose-hued buildings. Jaipur offers a rich blend of royal cuisine, historic monuments, vibrant markets and warm Rajput hospitality. On arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy the afternoon at your leisure to explore or relax. Overnight in Jaipur.
Day 4 - Jaipur
After breakfast, we explore Amber Fort, perched on a hill overlooking a lake. Though its sturdy walls appear formidable, inside you will find richly decorated palaces, temples and gardens. Highlights include the Sheesh Mahal, a chamber adorned with countless mirror fragments, the frescoed Ganesh Pol gate and the colonnaded Diwan-i-Aam. We then return to Jaipur’s old city to visit the City Palace complex, including the Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal palaces, the intricately carved Peacock Gate and the Armoury Museum, which displays an impressive collection of royal weaponry. Our tour continues to Jantar Mantar, the world’s largest stone astronomical observatory, featuring 14 major instruments designed to measure time, predict eclipses and track celestial bodies. We conclude the day with a photo stop at the striking Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds, before visiting the bustling bazaars of Johari, Tripolia, Bapu and Chandpol, each known for distinctive crafts and textiles. Overnight in Jaipur.
Day 5 - Jaipur - Agra
After breakfast, we leave Jaipur and drive to Agra, situated on the banks of the River Yamuna. Once the capital of the Mughal Empire in the 17th century, Agra was renowned for its gardens, waterfalls, bathhouses and canals. Today, the city is known for its vibrant crafts industry, including exquisite marble inlay work and carpets. Upon arrival, we check in to your hotel, where you can relax and prepare for the next day’s exploration. Overnight in Agra.
Day 6 - Agra - Delhi - Kherka Musalman
Begin the day with breakfast at your hotel before setting out on a sightseeing tour of Agra. Visit the magnificent Taj Mahal, a mid-17th-century mausoleum built by Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Take time to appreciate the exquisite craftsmanship of the 20,000 artisans from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy who contributed to this iconic monument. (Please note the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.) Continue to Agra Fort, a formidable red sandstone fortress that houses several grand Mughal palaces. Explore the Diwan-i-Am, where the emperor addressed the public, and the Diwan-i-Khas, used for private audiences with dignitaries. Also visit the white marble Mina Masjid, which contrasts strikingly with the rest of the fort. After your tour, drive back to Delhi and check in at your hotel for the night.
Day 7 - Delhi - Amritsar
We start early to board the Shatabdi Express train to Amritsar. Upon arrival, a representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel, where early check-in has been arranged. In the afternoon, we travel just under 30 kilometres to the Wagah border with Pakistan to witness the famous border ceremony. This lively event lasts around 45 minutes and features soldiers from both sides marching towards the gate, which is then opened. The soldiers salute each other and simultaneously lower their national flags before folding them and closing the gate, signalling the ceremony’s end with a trumpet call. Afterwards, we return to the hotel for the evening. Overnight in Amritsar.
Day 8 - Amritsar
After breakfast, we explore Amritsar with a morning city tour. Visit the Golden Temple, the holiest site in Sikhism, and see the nearby Akal Takhat, where key community matters are addressed. Next, we visit Jallianwala Bagh, now a public garden, which marks the site of the tragic 1919 massacre ordered by British General Dyer. Afterwards, we stop at Durgiana Mandir, a temple dedicated to the goddess Durga, notable for its striking resemblance to the Golden Temple and its setting on a lake. The tour concludes with time to browse the local market for souvenirs. The rest of the day is yours to relax at leisure. Overnight in Amritsar.
Day 9 - Amritsar - Delhi
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and take an assisted transfer to Amritsar Railway Station to board the train back to Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight (flight not included).
