Day 1 - Tokyo
Upon your arrival in Japan, you'll complete the necessary customs procedures and then be whisked away to your hotel via a shared shuttle bus. The remainder of the day is all yours, providing the perfect opportunity to unwind and begin your exploration of the vibrant city of Tokyo at your own pace. Later in the afternoon, we'll provide you with all the details you need about the commencement of your exciting tour. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Tokyo
Begin your second day in Tokyo with an enthralling guided tour of this captivating city, which will last about five hours. Tokyo seamlessly blends vibrant modern energy with peaceful oases of calm. We'll start at Zojoji Temple, offering you the chance to capture the quintessential view of Tokyo Tower. This site is home to numerous Jizo statues, lovingly adorned in colourful caps and bibs, believed to guard children.We'll next find ourselves at Shibuya Crossing, the world-renowned intersection known for its frenzied pace, before visiting the Meiji Shrine, a serene tribute to Emperor Meiji and his wife. Our tour continues with a bus journey down Omotesando Avenue, a sophisticated shopping street, leading us to the picturesque Imperial Palace grounds, where we’ll admire the iconic Nijubashi Bridge.Our travels carry us through Akihabara – the electric heart of Japanese pop culture – and past the Kokugikan, Japan’s famous arena for sumo wrestling. We'll complete our tour in Asakusa, where you will explore the historic Sensoji Temple and the lively Nakamise Street. A delightful lunch awaits at a local eatery. In the evening, we'll reconvene at 6:30 p.m. in the hotel lobby and take a metro trip (tickets provided) to the vibrant Shinjuku district. Here, you'll have the opportunity to wander its bustling streets, celebrated for their bustling nightlife, before we share dinner at a local restaurant (included). We’ll then return to your hotel by metro, under the guidance of our tour leader.
Day 3 - Tokyo - Mount Fuji - Kawaguchiko
We set off for the majestic Mount Fuji area, where breathtaking landscapes await. Our first destination is Arakurayama Sengen Park, famed for its exquisite pagodas and unparalleled views of Mount Fuji. Following this, we head to the charming town of Kawaguchiko, nestled amidst mountains and surrounded by vibrant flowers and a scenic lake. Upon arrival, we'll visit the tranquil Fuji Sengen Shrine, a serene site among towering trees, which traditionally marks the starting point for pilgrimages up Mount Fuji. Here, we’ll pause to appreciate the serenity of this enchanting location.As part of our adventure, we'll embark on a delightful boat trip on Lake Kawaguchiko, offering an opportunity to savour the area’s peaceful beauty. Next, we ascend Mount Fuji via the winding, scenic road to the Fifth Station, perched at 2,305 metres, surrounded by awe-inspiring forests and vistas. Please note that during winter, our ascent may be limited due to weather conditions, in which case we will proceed as far as we are allowed.We return to Kawaguchiko, where you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the lake's edge. Tonight, we’ll stay in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn, where you can unwind in an onsen, or public bath. Dinner will be served at the ryokan. It’s worth noting that some rooms feature Japanese-style tatami mats, while others are in a Western style. Occasionally, our accommodation might be in a Western-style hotel instead.
Day 4 - Kawaguchiko - Iyashi No Sato Nenba - Toyota - Kyoto
As we embark on our journey this morning, we'll travel through scenic routes flanked by picturesque lakes, leading us to Iyashi no Sato Nenba. This quaint village, once devastated by a typhoon in 1966, has been lovingly restored as an open-air museum. Here, traditional houses have been transformed into arts and crafts shops, restaurants, and cultural exhibits, offering a unique window into Japan's past. Our next stop is the stunning Shiraito Falls. With water cascading over a 20-metre height, these falls are regarded as one of Japan's most breathtaking natural wonders. We'll then proceed to Nagoya, where car enthusiasts can look forward to an intriguing visit to the Toyota Museum, which is included in our itinerary. This museum is a must-see, showcasing the fascinating evolution of automotive technology. Our day concludes in Kyoto, where we'll settle in for the night, ready to explore the historic treasures of this ancient city.
Day 5 - Kyoto
We dedicate the entire day to exploring Kyoto, a city that once served as Japan's capital and home to the Imperial Court from 794 until 1868. Uniquely untouched by World War II bombings, Kyoto has preserved its rich cultural heritage. It is noteworthy as the site of the Kyoto Protocol, a pivotal treaty aiming to curb global greenhouse gas emissions, signed in 1997. Our visit to Kyoto includes some of its most iconic landmarks. We start in Arashiyama, where the Togetsukyo Bridge, known as the "Bridge across the Moon," provides a picturesque view of the surrounding scenery. We then explore the Tenryuji Temple, one of Kyoto's five great Zen temples and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Following this, we enjoy a peaceful walk through its enchanting bamboo grove.Continuing our exploration, we visit the famed Fushimi Inari Shrine, known for its thousands of striking red torii gates; the Imperial Palace, once the residence of the emperor; and the Kinkakuji Temple, often called the "Golden Pavilion," renowned for its stunning gardens. Please note that the sequence of visits may vary.Afterward, you'll have time to wander through Gion, Kyoto's traditional district, celebrated for its lively atmosphere and sightings of geishas.
Day 6 - Kyoto - Nara - Osaka
Today, our adventure begins with a departure to Nara, where we will explore the remarkable Todaiji Temple, constructed in 752. This impressive Buddhist site houses a massive Buddha statue and is surrounded by a park where friendly deer roam freely, eager to pose for a snapshot with you. Lunch is included today before we proceed to the historic Horyu-ji Temple. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it boasts some of the oldest wooden structures in the world and stands as Japan's oldest Buddhist temple, offering deep insights into this revered place of worship. In the evening, we will arrive in Osaka, a bustling metropolis renowned as Japan's second-largest urban area. Prepare to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Dotonbori, famed for its electrifying nightlife and lively streets that promise a memorable evening.
Day 7 - Osaka - Busan
You'll begin your day with a transfer to Osaka for your flight to Busan. Upon touching down in South Korea, you'll be taken to your hotel. Busan, known for its energetic spirit, is the second-largest city in the country. With some free time on your hands, you can explore this dynamic city at your own pace. Later, you will meet up with the group joining the journey and our guide, who will accompany you for the rest of the trip.
Day 8 - Busan - Seokguram - Bulguksa - Gyeongju - Daegu
Today, we set off to visit the Seokguram Grotto, an impressive 8th-century Buddhist site nestled on the slopes of Mount Toham. Following this, we explore the renowned Bulguksa Temple, valued as one of Korea's architectural masterpieces. Our trip continues to Gyeongju, a city with a storied past as the former Korean capital that flourished under the reign of 56 kings for almost a thousand years. Here, you'll have the opportunity to capture stunning photographs of the picturesque Woljeonggyo Bridge over the Namcheon River. We will include lunch at a local restaurant before making our way to Tumuli Park, where the ancient burial mounds of Silla Kingdom's monarchs, dating back over 1,500 years, can be seen. At Tumuli Park, we’ll explore one of these historic tombs before moving on to Cheomsongdae, East Asia's oldest astronomical observatory and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Our journey then takes us to Daegu, South Korea's fourth-largest city. Before settling in for the night, we will have the chance to explore Dongsan Cheongna Hill, a noteworthy historical area once inhabited by Christian missionaries. Finally, soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Dongseong-ro, Daegu's bustling commercial street, filled with trendy shops, cafes, and restaurants. We'll spend the night in Daegu, allowing us to reflect on a day rich with history and culture.
Day 9 - Daegu - Andong - Hahoe - Seoul
Today, we begin our exploration of Daegu with a visit to the Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine, known for its rich heritage in medicinal herbs. Afterward, we will wander through the surrounding Herbal Medicine Market, famed for its abundance of herbal shops and high-quality products, particularly ginseng. Our journey continues as we head north to Andong, where we will venture to the outskirts of the traditional Hahoe Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you'll have time to explore this rural village, seemingly frozen in time. We'll also visit the Hahoe Mask Museum, which showcases a fascinating array of masks used globally in dances, medical practices, religious ceremonies, and theatrical performances. Lunch is included at a local restaurant. We will then proceed to the Byeongsan Seowon Confucian Academy, founded in the 16th century, set in a tranquil landscape alongside a river. We'll arrive in Seoul by evening. Weather permitting, we will make a stop at Banpo Bridge over the Han River, renowned for its stunning fountain that creates a rainbow of water and lights along the bridge's path. The day's adventures will conclude with an overnight stay in Seoul. Please note that the visit to Banpo Bridge is contingent upon weather conditions.
Day 10 - Seoul
We set off early for the Cheorwon region, where we’ll visit a section of the DMZ, the Demilitarised Zone that divides the two Koreas. Our exploration begins with the Second Tunnel, a clandestine passage dug by the North Korean army and uncovered in 1975. We then proceed to the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, where sweeping views of the DMZ and the initial villages in North Korea await us. Within the observatory, a small museum delves into the history of the Korean War. Our journey continues to the abandoned Woljeong-ri railway station and the Baek Ma Battle Memorial, which honours the French UN battalion's role in historical battles. Lunch is included today at a local venue. To round off the day, we’ll visit a local producer of Makgeolli, a traditional Korean rice liquor. We'll return to Seoul in the evening.Please remember to bring your passport, as it is required today. The DMZ is a military zone and may unexpectedly close without notice. If this occurs, an alternative itinerary will be provided. Later, our guide will accompany us to City Hall, where we can admire its impressive tsunami-inspired architecture. Opposite, we’ll see Deoksugung Palace, its night-time illumination wonderfully showcasing the harmony of tradition and modernity. We’ll continue on foot to the Myeongdong district, South Korea’s largest hub of shopping and entertainment, aptly named “bright town.” Dinner is included at a local restaurant, after which we’ll take the efficient metro (ticket included) back to our hotel. Overnight accommodation in Seoul.
Day 11 - Seoul
Today in Seoul, we'll embark on an enriching five-hour exploration of the city. Our first stop is the renowned Changdeokgung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its grand architecture and extensive gardens. Following this, we'll stroll past the Bukchon Hanok Village, where traditional Korean homes offer a glimpse into the past. Our visit continues to the War Memorial of Korea, an insightful museum dedicated to the conflicts that have shaped Korea's history, with particular focus on the Korean War—an international effort under the United Nations.Lunch is included today at a local restaurant before we head to the bustling Gangnam District. Known for its upscale shopping and entertainment options, this area is a vibrant part of modern Seoul. We'll end our day's planned activities with a visit to the impressive Lotte World Tower, soaring at 550 meters. You'll have the option to ascend the tower for panoramic views or explore the neighbouring parks and luxury shops at your leisure. After the day's explorations, we return to our hotel, leaving you with free time to see more of Seoul at your own pace.
Day 12 - Seoul - Suwon - Jeonju
Today, we'll begin by exploring the grandeur of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, steeped in over 600 years of history. If the timing aligns, we’ll witness the traditional changing of the guard ceremony. After our palace visit, we'll set off southwards, making a stop at Suwon, once Korea's capital. This city is famous for its awe-inspiring UNESCO-listed walls. We'll take time to admire these impressive fortifications and visit Hwaseong Haenggung, the historical summer palace. Lunch will be provided before we continue our journey to Jeonju. Upon arrival, we'll wander through its charming Hanok Village, characterised by quaint houses, traditional craft shops, and captivating art galleries.
Day 13 - Jeonju - Damyang - Haeinsa - Busan
We set off for Sunchang Gochujang Village, nestled at the foot of Mount Amisan, where traditional hanok houses and courtyards brimming with clay pots, known as hang-a-ri, create a picturesque scene. Here, master artisans are skilled in creating gochujang, a famous Korean chilli paste. We’ll participate in a hands-on session to learn the craft of making this renowned sauce. Afterwards, we travel to Damyang to explore the Juknokwon Bamboo Forest, a haven of tranquil paths ideal for meditation and savouring the fresh air. The forest features an array of bamboo products showcased at places like the Bamboo Museum. Lunch will be a local speciality—rice prepared inside a bamboo stalk. As we continue through awe-inspiring mountain terrain and dense forests, we arrive at Haeinsa. This significant Buddhist temple, established in 802 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, houses the Tripitaka: an extensive collection of Buddhist scriptures carved on 80,000 wooden tablets. Our journey will conclude in Busan, Korea’s vibrant second city, where we will stay overnight.
Day 14 - Busan
In the morning, we will set off from Busan to visit the serene Haedong Yonggung Temple. This stunning 14th-century Buddhist temple boasts an extraordinary location by the sea, offering a unique and picturesque setting for reflection. We will then return to Busan to pay our respects at the UN Memorial Cemetery, a tranquil resting place for soldiers from several nations. Afterwards, we will explore South Korea's largest fish market, strategically located at Nampo Port, followed by a delightful included lunch featuring local flavours. The adventure continues as we make our way to Yongdusan Park, crowned by its iconic 120-metre tall pagoda, offering panoramic views over the city.Later, we shall head to the scenic Songdo Beach, where you can enjoy the thrill of riding South Korea’s first marine cable car (ticket provided, weather permitting). This is an excellent opportunity to savour the stunning vistas of the bay. Our journey then takes us to the vibrant Gamcheon Culture Village, famed for its kaleidoscope of colourful buildings, winding alleyways, and an array of art galleries, pottery workshops, and charming cafes. By evening, we will return to Busan, where you can relax and recount the day’s adventures as we settle in for the night.
Day 15 - Busan
As you enjoy your final breakfast in Busan, reflect on the incredible experiences and unforgettable memories crafted during this journey. From the vibrant cityscapes and cultural landmarks to serene temples and bustling markets, we've provided a rich tapestry of experiences.
