Day 1 - Seoul
Welcome to Korea! Upon arrival in Seoul, you will be transferred to your hotel. After settling in, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy some free time to get acquainted with your surroundings. In the afternoon, we will provide you with essential information about the commencement of your tour. Make the most of this time to relax and prepare for the exciting adventures that await in this vibrant city and beyond. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Seoul - Busan
Today, we embark on a captivating journey through Seoul with a comprehensive five-hour tour. We begin at Changdeokgung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled in a grand park, showcasing a collection of royal palaces that reflect Korea's storied past. Our exploration continues as we walk through Bukchon Hanok Village, a charming neighbourhood that preserves the essence of traditional Korean architecture with its quaint houses. Following that, we delve into Korea's tumultuous history at the War Memorial, an impressive museum highlighting various conflicts, including the Korean War, where soldiers from multiple countries served alongside the United Nations.Lunch awaits at a local restaurant, offering a taste of the region's culinary delights. Our afternoon takes us to the vibrant Gangnam District, renowned for its plethora of shopping options and lively entertainment venues. We wrap up our Seoul experience with a visit to the Lotte World Tower, a marvel towering at 550 metres. Here, you have the freedom to explore—ascend the tower for spectacular views (admission not included) or stroll through its lush park and luxury shopping centres.Later, we head to the train station for an exhilarating high-speed train journey to Busan, with tickets included in your itinerary. Upon arrival in Busan, we transfer to your hotel, where you can unwind and reflect on the day's adventures.
Day 3 - Busan
We will begin our third day in Busan with a visit to Haedong Yonggung Temple, a picturesque 14th-century Buddhist site uniquely situated along the coast, providing stunning ocean views. Following this, we will head back into Busan to explore the UN Memorial Cemetery, a serene and poignant site honouring people from numerous nations. Our next destination is the bustling fish market near Nampo Port, the largest in the country, where you'll experience the vibrant atmosphere of a traditional Korean market. Lunch will be provided at a local eatery. After lunch, we will take a leisurely walk to Yongdusan Park, where you'll find the impressive 120-metre-high pagoda offering panoramic views of the city. Our afternoon continues with a trip to Songdo Beach, where you might choose to enjoy a scenic ride on the country's first marine cable car, offering breathtaking vistas of the bay, weather permitting. Our exploration of Busan would not be complete without a visit to the Gamcheon Culture Village. Known for its colourful buildings and artistic ambience, this area is a delight to wander through, with its maze-like alleyways, art galleries, pottery workshops, and charming cafes. After soaking in the local culture, we will return to our hotel in Busan for an overnight stay.
Day 4 - Busan - Seokguram - Bulguksa - Gyeongju - Daegu
Departing from Busan today, we'll journey to the Seokguram Grotto, an exquisite 8th-century Buddhist site nestled in the Tohamsan mountainside. Following this, we'll visit the Bulguksa Temple, renowned for its architectural beauty and significance as one of Korea's most stunning temples. Our travels continue to Gyeongju, which served as Korea's capital for nearly a millennium. Here, you'll have the opportunity to capture the striking Woljeonggyo Bridge along the Namcheon River. After a leisurely included lunch, we'll head to Tumuli Park, where the ancient burial mounds of Silla Kingdom royals, over 1,500 years old, await exploration. Our walk will take us to the Cheomseongdae Observatory, East Asia's oldest astronomical observatory and a proud UNESCO World Heritage Site.Later, we'll arrive in Daegu, Korea's fourth-largest city, where we'll explore Dongsan Cheongna Hill, historically significant for its Christian missionary past. We'll conclude our day with a stroll along Dongseong-ro, the city's vibrant commercial artery, bustling with stylish shops, cafes, and restaurants. We'll spend the night in Daegu, ready for the next day's adventures.
Day 5 - Daegu - Andong - Hahoe - Seoul
In the morning, we begin our exploration of Daegu with a visit to the Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine, celebrated for its rich history of medicinal herbs. We'll wander through the nearby Herbal Medicine Market, renowned for its numerous herbal shops specialising in high-quality products, particularly ginseng. Our journey continues north to Andong, where we explore the traditional Hahoe Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to meander through this charming rural village, seemingly untouched by time. We’ll also visit the nearby Hahoe Mask Museum, which displays an array of masks used in dances, healing rituals, religious ceremonies, and theatre from around the world. Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant. Our next stop is the Byeongsan Seowon Confucian Academy, founded in the 16th century, beautifully situated along a tranquil river. By evening, we'll reach Seoul, where – weather permitting – we’ll pause at Banpo Bridge over the Han River. Famous for its stunning fountain displays that create a water and light spectacle along the bridge, this visit depends on weather conditions. We conclude the day with an overnight stay in Seoul.
Day 6 - Seoul
We set off early to the Cheorwon region to explore its segment of the DMZ, the Demilitarised Zone that separates the two Koreas. Our visit begins with the Second Tunnel, a covert passage excavated by the North Korean military and uncovered in 1975. Next, we'll visit the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, where you'll be treated to sweeping views of the DMZ and the initial villages of North Korea. Whilst there, you can also explore a small museum themed around the Korean War. Our journey continues with a stop at the deserted Woljeong-ri railway station, followed by a visit to the Baek Ma Battle Memorial, honouring the French UN battalion's involvement in the battles. Following an included lunch, we'll have the opportunity to visit a local Makgeolli producer, where this traditional Korean rice liquor is made. In the evening, we return to Seoul. Please note: Bring your passport, as it is required for our visit. The DMZ is a military area and may close without notice; if that occurs, an alternative itinerary will be provided.Our day continues with an exploration of Seoul. We'll first visit the impressive City Hall, designed to resemble a tidal wave. Opposite, you'll see Deoksugung Palace, enchantingly illuminated at night, showcasing the harmonious blend of Korea's tradition and modernity. We’ll then make our way to the bustling Myeongdong district, the largest hub for shopping and entertainment in South Korea, attractively translating to "bright town." We'll enjoy dinner at a local eatery before heading back to our hotel using the city's efficient metro system, tickets included for your convenience. You'll overnight in Seoul.
Day 7 - Seoul - Beijing
We will arrange a transfer to the airport for your included flight to Beijing. Welcome to China! Upon arrival, you'll be taken to your hotel. Later in the afternoon, we will begin discovering the city's vibrant character. A transfer will take you to Wangfujing Street, renowned for its bustling atmosphere and array of shops and restaurants. Dinner will be provided. Afterward, we'll return to the hotel for your overnight accommodation.
Day 8 - Beijing
Today in Beijing, a captivating day awaits us as we explore the vibrant heart of China's capital. We'll set out on a full-day tour to unveil the city's renowned landmarks. Our journey commences with a visit to the majestic Forbidden City, an awe-inspiring architectural masterpiece where 24 emperors reigned for nearly half a millennium. We then head to Jingshan Park, home to Coal Hill, an imperial garden offering stunning panoramic views of the Forbidden City – provided the weather is favourable. Next, we'll take a leisurely stroll through Tiananmen Square, one of the world's largest public squares, where we can admire the impressive Great National Theater, commonly referred to as the Beijing Opera House. Lunch is included. Our day continues with an exploration of the Summer Palace, the Qing Dynasty's imperial retreat, celebrated for its beautiful gardens and peaceful lakes. In the afternoon, we'll delve into traditional Beijing life with a tricycle ride through the historic Hutong neighbourhoods. Here, we’ll experience the city's rich cultural heritage, explore charming traditional shops, and visit a classic Siheyuan courtyard house that embodies the architectural allure of the era. We'll return to the hotel for an overnight stay. Please note, due to protective measures of heritage areas and visitor safety regulations, the Forbidden City may limit daily visitor numbers. In such instances, we will visit the Confucius Temple and the Lama Temple, both of historical and cultural significance in China.
Day 9 - Beijing - Shanghai
Today, we venture to the Great Wall of China, specifically the Mutianyu section, renowned for its breathtaking scenery and rich history spanning over two millennia. Our excursion includes a cable car ride both ways, allowing for convenient access and exceptional views (tickets provided). We will savour a delicious farewell lunch in Beijing, featuring the famed Peking duck, before we transfer to the train station. There, we will board a high-speed train to Shanghai. Upon arrival in this bustling metropolis, we will head to our hotel to check in and settle in for an overnight stay.
Day 10 - Shanghai
Today's adventure leads us to explore the dynamic city of Shanghai, starting with its modern epicentre in Pudong, where the heights of ambition are reflected in towering skyscrapers like the iconic Pearl Tower. We’ll embark on a scenic ferry ride across the Huangpu River, capturing stunning views that blend the historic charm and cutting-edge progress of one of China's most vibrant cities.Continuing to the Old City, we’ll unwind in the tranquil oasis of Yuyuan Garden, a masterpiece from the Ming Dynasty, where a traditional tea ceremony will immerse us in China's revered cultural practices. Next, we venture into Xintiandi, renowned for its fashionable boutiques and lively cafés, offering a snapshot of Shanghai’s contemporary urban lifestyle. After enjoying an included lunch, our expedition leads us to Tianzifang, where you can meander through its labyrinth of alleys, home to quaint craft shops and innovative art galleries. As the day winds down, we’ll take a leisurely walk along The Bund, where the majestic colonial architecture conjures echoes of Shanghai’s rich trading history.In your free afternoon, you might want to board a boat for an enchanting night-time view of Shanghai, a memorable way to end the day.
Day 11 - Shanghai - Luoyang
In the morning, we will transfer to the station to catch a high-speed train departing at 07:17 a.m. Over five hours, we will cover 1,000 km, enjoying scenic views of picturesque landscapes and countryside as we travel to Luoyang. Upon arrival, you will savour an included lunch before we explore the remarkable Longmen Buddhist Caves. This extraordinary site stretches a kilometre along the cliffs by the river, with over 100,000 Buddha statues and carvings etched into the rock, showcasing one of China's most breathtaking archaeological achievements. To enhance your experience, we will take a scenic boat ride along the river, providing a unique vantage point to admire the caves' grandeur. Later, we will head to the historic city of Luoyang, passing through its impressive walls and immersing ourselves in the vibrant streets, illuminated and alive with traditional charm and local activity.
Day 12 - Luoyang - Longmen - Sanmexia - Xian
Our day begins with an early morning visit to the White Horse Monastery, just outside Luoyang. Known as one of the oldest Buddhist temples in China, it stands as a significant centre for Buddhist education, attracting scholars worldwide. Following our visit, we continue to the historic city of Sanmenxia, situated along the formidable Yellow River. Here, we’ll explore the Baolun Temple, famous for its impressive tall pagoda. Our visit includes the celebrated Guo Museum, where you'll discover the ancient funeral carriages of the former State of Guo, providing an intriguing insight into the region's storied past. Lunch will be included, offering a taste of the local cuisine. In the afternoon, we head eastward past the revered Mount Hua, noted for its striking peaks and spiritual importance. By late afternoon, we will arrive in Xian, concluding our day of exploration.
Day 13 - Xian
Upon arriving in the captivating city of Xian, renowned as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, our day will begin with a visit to the renowned Terracotta Army. This remarkable archaeological site consists of thousands of life-sized clay soldiers, meticulously crafted to guard the tomb of China’s first emperor, hidden underground for centuries. After marvelling at this legendary wonder, we'll return to Xian to discover the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, an enduring Buddhist structure over a thousand years old. The journey continues as we venture into the historic heart of Xian, enclosed within the ancient city walls. Passages through the vibrant Muslim Quarter offer a glimpse into the cultural tapestry of the city, and we will visit the Great Mosque, a unique blend of architectural styles symbolising the convergence of cultures and religions in China. Our exploration includes the Drum Tower, where we will be treated to a short performance of traditional Chinese music, resonating from instruments steeped in history. Following the organised activities, you'll have free time to delve deeper into the city's offerings at your own pace.
Day 14 - Xian
After enjoying breakfast, the tour concludes, leaving you with cherished memories of your remarkable journey.
