We then continue into Retiro Park to see the lake and the Palacio de Cristal. You have the afternoon free to explore at your own pace or relax. In the evening, we provide a return transfer to the hotel.
Day 3 - Madrid - Granada
We depart Madrid early, travelling south through La Mancha to pause in Puerto Lápice – a classic Manchego village associated with Don Quixote. We then cross into Andalusia via Despeñaperros and arrive in Granada, where lunch is included. In the afternoon, if your booking includes the Alhambra, we explore the palace complex and its Generalife gardens with a local guide – both built during the Arab period.Very important note: Visitor numbers at the Alhambra are strictly regulated by law. To secure entry, tickets are issued when your tour reservation is confirmed, and you must provide accurate personal details – full name and passport or ID number – at the time of booking. Ticket costs are non-refundable if you cancel. In the rare event the Alhambra visit cannot be operated, we will instead tour the Royal Alcázar of Seville, which offers similar historical and architectural significance.
Day 4 - Granada - Nerja - Malaga - Ronda - Seville
Leaving Granada this morning, we skirt the Sierra Nevada before following the Mediterranean along the area known as the Tropical Coast, where the mild climate supports guava, mango and avocado cultivation – and once, sugar cane. We stop in Nerja, a seaside town with striking cliffs, then continue to Málaga, capital of the Costa del Sol, where you’ll have time for lunch and a stroll through the historic centre. In the afternoon we head into the Andalusian sierras to reach Ronda, a celebrated white town split by a dramatic gorge. We then continue to Seville, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 5 - Seville
In the morning, we explore Seville on a guided tour, taking in the cathedral with its Giralda – a former minaret now serving as the bell tower – the banks of the Guadalquivir, and the atmospheric neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana. After the tour, we enjoy an included boat cruise on the Guadalquivir for panoramic views of the city. In the evening, you can choose to attend a flamenco tablao performance.
Day 6 - Seville - Merida - Evora - Lisbon
We depart Seville, travelling through rolling hills and wide pasturelands towards Extremadura. In Mérida, we include entry to the Archaeological Ensemble – featuring the superbly preserved Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre, a World Heritage Site. You’ll then have time for lunch and a stroll through the pedestrian historic centre. We continue into Portugal and stop in Évora – also a World Heritage city – known for its whitewashed streets, Renaissance palaces and cathedral. We arrive in Lisbon in the evening.
Day 7 - Lisbon
This morning we take a guided tour of Lisbon, the Portuguese capital of seven hills, exploring its narrow lanes, iconic tiles, a sense of saudade and bright Atlantic light. We then visit the Belém neighbourhood – the departure point for 15th–century Portuguese navigators. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace; you can head to Bairro Alto for its viewpoint, or join an optional excursion to Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. In the evening, we provide a return transfer to the hotel from lively Restauradores Square, where you can enjoy its bars and cafes before meeting the coach.
Day 8 - Lisbon - Caceres - Madrid
We depart Portugal early, travelling across the Alentejo. We stop for coffee in Estremoz – a charming town known for its medieval castle, cobbled streets and elegant architecture – before crossing into Spain. In Cáceres, you’ll have time to find lunch and explore its historic centre, celebrated as one of the best-preserved medieval and Renaissance urban ensembles. We then continue to Madrid, arriving in the evening.
