Frequently asked questions
Are Canada tours fully guided or partially guided?
Both. Most are fully guided, with a guide throughout and local guides on included visits. The large coach routes through Ontario and Quebec are partially guided, meaning organised sightseeing in key places and free time elsewhere. Group sizes range from 22 on the smaller Rockies trips up to 65 on the coach routes, with small group departures capped at 26.
What is included in a Canada tour?
Transport, accommodation and guiding on routed days are included, along with national park entry where the itinerary calls for it. Meals vary by trip, with breakfast the most common inclusion and dinners covered on some routes only. International flights are not included unless the itinerary states otherwise. Each tour page sets out what is covered day by day.
Do Canada tours include Banff and the Canadian Rockies?
Yes, and the Rockies routes out of Vancouver are the most booked Canada tours. Canadian Rockies Express covers Banff and Valemount in four days, while Best of West Canada takes eight days and adds Whistler, Jasper and Kelowna. Shorter options include a two day Vancouver to Banff run taking in Kelowna and Lake Louise. Summer departures are the fullest, though winter versions of the Vancouver, Banff and Rockies route also operate.
Do Canada tours visit Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island?
Yes. Atlantic Canada makes up a large part of the range, with most trips starting in Halifax. Six day options take in Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg and Charlottetown, and Highlights of the Maritimes extends that to 13 days with Moncton, Saint John and the Bay of Fundy. Newfoundland routes add Gros Morne National Park and the Viking Trail, and Atlantic Canada Encompassed covers the lot across 23 days.
Do any Canada tours cross into the USA?
Some of the eastern routes do. Canadian Highlights to New York spends 10 days running Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa, Toronto and Niagara Falls before finishing in New York, and Toronto and Niagara Falls Discovery crosses at the falls. Out west, a short Vancouver break runs down to Seattle. Everything else stays within Canada.
How many days do you need for a Canada tour?
Two to four days is enough for a Rockies run from Vancouver or a Montreal to Quebec break. A week to 10 days covers one region properly, whether that is the west, the eastern cities or Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Newfoundland and the full Atlantic loop need two weeks or more. The longest trip runs 23 days.
Are Canada tours suitable for solo travellers?
Yes. Group departures work well for solo travellers, since the transport, hotels and guiding are arranged and there are others on the route to travel with. The small group trips capped at 26 tend to be the easier introduction. A single room supplement usually applies and varies by trip, so check the pricing on the itinerary before booking.
When is the best time to visit Canada?
June to September suits most trips, with the warmest weather and the fullest choice of departures. September and early October bring autumn colour through Quebec and Ontario alongside thinner crowds. Winter departures focus on the Rockies for snow and the Yukon for the northern lights. Spring is the quietest time to travel, though some mountain routes only open from late May.
