Upon arrival at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for check-in. You will then have some free time to start exploring, enjoy a meal or relax after your journey.
In the evening, you will begin discovering Baku from a range of viewpoints. You will visit Highland Park, one of the city’s best panoramic locations, offering sweeping views over the Caspian Sea and the city skyline. Here, you will also see the Flame Towers, Baku’s iconic modern landmark, along with Martyrs’ Lane and the Eternal Flame Monument, which honour those who lost their lives in the country’s history.
You will continue past several of Baku’s key sights, including Baku Crystal Hall, Flag Square, and the Baku Ferris Wheel along the seaside boulevard. You will also see the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center, known for its distinctive, flowing design, the Baku Conference Centre, Little Venice with its canals, and the Carpet Museum, designed to resemble a rolled carpet.
After the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel. The rest of the evening is free for you to spend at your leisure.
Day 2 - Gobustan, Absheron Peninsula & Fire Temples
Baku - Gobustan National Park - Absheron Peninsula - Baku. This morning, you will set out to explore the Absheron region and its unique natural and cultural landmarks. Your first stop is Gobustan National Park, where you will visit the museum and see ancient petroglyphs, rock carvings that date back thousands of years and offer insight into prehistoric life.
You will then continue to the nearby mud volcanoes, a rare natural phenomenon where mineral rich mud bubbles up from the earth’s surface. Azerbaijan is home to a large number of the world’s mud volcanoes, making this a distinctive experience.
After your visit to Gobustan, you will travel towards the Absheron Peninsula. On the way, you will stop at Bibiheybat Mosque, an important religious site rebuilt in traditional style, and stop near the Aquatic Palace to see the site of the world’s first industrially drilled oil well that reflects the country’s long association with the oil industry.
You will then visit Ateshgah Fire Temple, a fortress like complex that once served as a place of worship for Hindus, Sikhs and Zoroastrians. The site is known for its natural gas flames, which have drawn visitors for centuries.
The journey continues to Yanar Dag, also known as the Burning Mountain, where natural gas flames burn continuously from the hillside, a striking example of the region’s geology. Later, you will return to Baku and be dropped off at your hotel.
