Itinerary
Day 1 - Shamakhi, Lahij, Gabala and Sheki
Baku - Shamakhi - Ismayilli - Lahij - Gabala - Sheki. After meeting your guide and driver at your hotel or a designated meeting point, you will begin your journey.
You start with a drive of approximately 1.5 hours to the Diri Baba Mausoleum, located between Baku and Shamakhi. On arrival, your guide will explain the history and legends surrounding this 15th-century two-storey mausoleum, built into a limestone cliff.
You then continue for around 30 minutes to Shamakhi Juma Mosque, originally built in 743 AD, one of the oldest mosques in Azerbaijan. Despite earthquake damage, it remains an important historical site with a rare three-section layout. Shoes must be removed before entering, and head coverings are provided for women.
The journey continues to the Ismayilli region, where, after around 60 minutes you reach the Zernava Hanging Bridge, offering views over a natural canyon and surrounding landscapes. From here, you travel a further 40 minutes to Lahij village, one of the oldest settlements in Azerbaijan, known for its copper craftsmanship. You will spend around 1.5 hours exploring the village, observing traditional handicrafts and learning about its unique architecture.
You then continue towards Gabala, approximately 1 hour away. Here, you visit Nohur Lake, set at around 700 metres above sea level and surrounded by forested mountains. You may choose to take part in optional activities such as horse riding or a boat trip, or simply enjoy the peaceful setting.
Next, you visit the Seven Beauties Waterfall, a series of mountain cascades reached via forest paths, with optional tea stops available along the way. You also stop at the Tufandag Summer-Winter Tourism Complex, where you can take an optional cable car ride for panoramic views across the surrounding mountains. After completing your visits, you continue your journey to Sheki for your overnight stay.
Day 2 - Sheki City Tour & Departure from Baku
Sheki - Baku. After our final breakfast, you begin your exploration of Sheki.
You visit the Sheki Khan’s Palace, located within the Yukhari Bash National Historical and Architectural Reserve. This 18th-century palace is known for its detailed interiors and stained glass, and forms part of the UNESCO-listed historic centre of Sheki. You then continue to the Caravansarai, a historic trading complex reflecting the Silk Road era.
Your final stop is the village of Kish, where you visit one of the earliest Christian churches in the Caucasus, dating back to the 1st century AD.
After approximately 2.5 hours of sightseeing, you begin your return journey to Baku, which takes around 5 hours including stops. Once you have arrived back in Baku, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
