Itinerary
Day 1 - Dubrovnik to Trebinje
The start hotel in Trebinje is approximately one hour from Dubrovnik airport. We provide one group transfer from the airport to the hotel, which you can join at no extra cost, provided you can be at the airport before the transfer leaves. Speak to your sales representative for the transfer times or make your own way to the start hotel.
Around 6pm we meet the group to hear about the week ahead, then enjoy a welcome dinner arranged by our tour leader at a riverside restaurant on the Trebisnjica. If you would like extra time in Trebinje or Dubrovnik, you can book pre–tour hotel nights through your sales representative.
Day 2 - Sutjeska National Park

In the morning we transfer for about 1hr 30min to Sutjeska National Park. Before reaching our hotel in the Tjentiste Valley, we hike from Papin Do Hut to Jagodino Lake, then continue across open mountain terrain to the summit of Kuk (1,817m) on the border with Montenegro – a superb vantage point over Zelengora and the rock walls of Volujak.
We descend partly the same way for a little over an hour with Lebrsnik and Volujak on the horizon, stop for lunch near the hut, then transfer about 30 minutes through the Sutjeska River canyon to the hotel. Before dinner we take a short stroll from the hotel to the Partisan Memorial of Sutjeska – a striking monument to those who fell in the Second World War.
Distance: 7 km / 4.3 miles
Day 3 - Hiking Sutjeska National Park

After breakfast we drive to remote Lokva Dernečište, our trailhead in Sutjeska National Park. Here we split into two smaller groups with guides – you can choose a demanding ascent of Maglić, the highest peak in Bosnia & Herzegovina at 2,386m, taking around four hours with sweeping views over the Dinaric Alps and emerald Trnovačko Lake, before descending for about 2hr 30min towards the shore; or opt for a gentler hike of about two hours to Trnovačko Lake to relax and enjoy the scenery. We reunite at the lake and continue together for around two hours across open alpine terrain to Prijevor pass, then transfer back to our accommodation.
Distance: 15 km / 9.3 miles
Day 4 - Exploring Sarajevo

We transfer for approximately two hours to Sarajevo, the Bosnian capital at the heart of the Balkans, and take a guided tour of key historic, cultural and war sites to help piece together its complex past. The afternoon is free – you can continue exploring this varied and beautiful city at your own pace.
Day 5 - Trebevic Hike

Today we explore Trebevic, an Olympic mountain close to the city yet a world away from daily life. Taking the back road via Vraca to Brus with a drive of about 20 minutes, we park and begin a 650m ascent to the 1,629m summit. Our winding trail leads through pine and spruce forest with occasional far reaching views over Sarajevo and the mountains we visit tomorrow. From the top we descend on a shorter path along the western ridge, pause for a celebratory drink at a local mountain hut with superb views, then visit the concrete remains of the Sarajevo Olympic bobsleigh track, now covered in local graffiti, before a short 15–20 minute transfer back to the city.
Distance: 11 km / 6.8 miles
Day 6 - Hiking the Bjelasnica Mountains

Today we transfer about one hour for a full day in the Bjelasnica Mountains, ascending Obalj (1,896m) and visiting Lukomir, the highest village in Bosnia & Herzegovina at 1,469m. From the mosque in Umoljani we walk to Gradina, long used for summer pastures, then climb toward the Obalj ridge above the Studeni stream as views open over Treskavica and Visocica. Reaching the slopes and then the summit, we look down to Lukomir, home to ancient stecci and a living pastoral tradition.
On the village edge there is a remarkable view of Rakitnica canyon, Obalj and Visocica. After a simple, tasty homemade late lunch we transfer about 1hr 30min back to our Sarajevo hotel.
Distance: 9 km / 5.6 miles
Day 7 - King’s Hunting Trail & Mostar

We hike the King’s Hunting Trail on Čvrsnica Mountain. After a 1hr 30min transfer we begin in the Diva Grabovica Valley, climbing through beech forest and passing natural springs where we can refill bottles with fresh mountain water. After about two hours we reach the Zlijeb viewpoint for sweeping views over the valley and Čvrsnica’s limestone cliffs – including the largest rock face in the Balkans, rising more than 1,000m. We then transfer to Mostar and settle into our hotel. If you prefer to skip the hike, you can choose to raft the Neretva River instead, arranged through your tour leader.
Distance: 8 km / 5 miles
Day 8 - Exploring Mostar & Transfer to Dubrovnik

We spend the morning exploring Mostar, including a visit to the Old Bridge, rebuilt after it collapsed during the conflict of the early 1990s. The city still bears scars, yet today it is once again warm and bustling, rich in history and architecture.
In the afternoon we travel to Dubrovnik – our final destination and a fitting finale to a week of trekking – on a transfer of about 2hr 30min. We arrive around 5pm and the rest of the day is free – you can explore the perfectly preserved old town, a Unesco World Heritage site with impressive fortresses, palaces and encircling walls.
Day 9 - Dubrovnik

The trip ends this morning after breakfast. There’s one group transfer to the airport, which you can join at no extra cost. Please speak to your sales representative for the time of the transfer. If the group transfer does not suit your flight time, make your own way to the airport.
