Depending on your arrival time, wander its cobbled streets, uncover centuries-old plazas, and feel the pulse of history come alive in the old town. We'll gather with the tour leader and the rest of the group at 18:00, so everyone can get to know each other.

Day 2 - Quito to Mindo

Quito - Mindo. Our adventure begins with a journey north of Quito to the iconic Equator Monument—stand in both hemispheres at once and feel the magnetic pull of the Middle of the World. En route, we pause to admire the Pululahua crater, a vast volcanic caldera - remarkably it is home to over 400 residents.

From here, we descend into the lush cloud forest of Mindo, a haven of biodiversity and a paradise for bird lovers—keep an eye out for hummingbirds! In the afternoon, indulge your senses at a local chocolate producer, where we’ll follow the journey from cocoa bean to rich brownie or velvety hot chocolate. We're spending the night in Mindo.

Day 3 - Mindo Cloud Forest Adventure

Today, we delve deeper into Mindo’s magical cloud forest, riding cable cars and hiking to waterfalls through emerald canopies alive with toucans, hummingbirds, and other colourful birdlife.

In the afternoon, you can choose from a range of optional activities. Soar across treetops on a zip-line or brave the rapids with whitewater tubing as expert guides navigate the current (included). We then have an included visit to a butterfly sanctuary, where giant-winged beauties flutter around you—dip your fingers in banana nectar and feel them gently land on your outstretched hands. We spend a second night at our hotel in Mindo.

Day 4 - Otavalo & Cotacachi

Mindo - Otavalo - Cotacachi - Otavalo. We ascend into the highlands, following the Pan-American Highway to Otavalo, a town alive with indigenous culture. Wander its cobblestone streets, and perhaps shop for souvenirs from some of the locals in traditional blue ponchos selling everything from textiles and ceramics to paintings and jewelry.

After ample free time for exploring, we continue to Cotacachi, renowned for its fine leather goods. Explore the charming village or unwind with a cup of Ecuador’s finest coffee in the peaceful plaza before we return to Otavalo and our hotel. Your evening is at leisure.

Day 5 - Otavalo to Papallacta

Otavalo - Pijal - Papallacta. Today begins with a visit to the Cotacachi Cayapas Ecological Reserve. Here, we'll hike along the rim of the stunning Cuicocha Crater Lake, its crystal-clear waters fed by an active volcano. After a boat ride to the centre of the crater, we’ll observe the volcano’s bubbling activity up close.

Next, we visit the Sacha WarmiKuna women's project in Pijal, a community-driven initiative empowering local women. Experience their traditional skills, including textile weaving and culinary heritage. We’ll join in preparing "Aji," a spicy salsa, and enjoy a homemade lunch crafted from fresh, local ingredients. Take this chance to support the project by purchasing their handmade scarves.

Later, we check into the historic Pinsaqui Hacienda and enjoy an Andean cocktail, learning about its fascinating past. The day concludes with a relaxing retreat at the volcanic hot springs of Papallacta, where you can unwind in the soothing waters surrounded by the breathtaking Andean mountains.
