Itinerary
Day 1 - Rome
Welcome to your tour. We arrange your transfer to the hotel, and you have free time to settle in. You will receive information in the afternoon – either in person or via the information board at reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Rome
In the morning, we take a three hour guided tour of the Eternal City, combining a walk through Imperial Rome with a panoramic coach ride to admire one of the oldest and most influential cities in Western civilisation. We see the Arch of Constantine, the exterior of the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums, the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Pyramid of Cestius and Castel Sant’Angelo. The tour ends at Vatican City around 11:00. You can choose to join an optional visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. In the evening, we include a transfer from the hotel to the popular Trastevere neighbourhood – known for its cosy restaurants and lively atmosphere – with return to the hotel around 20:30.
Day 3 - Rome
A free day to keep enjoying Rome – you can explore at your own pace, with history and beauty at every corner.
Day 4 - Rome - Florence
After crossing the picturesque landscapes of the Apennines, we arrive in Florence. Our first stop is Piazzale Michelangelo, a viewpoint with a breathtaking panorama of the city. You have free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we enjoy a guided tour of the historic centre, taking in the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria – an open air museum. You then have additional free time to explore as you wish.
Day 5 - Florence - Pisa - Cinque Terre - Genoa
Today we travel to Pisa, where a little tourist train takes us to the Piazza dei Miracoli, home to the famous Leaning Tower. We then continue to the Ligurian Riviera, celebrated for some of the prettiest coastlines in Europe, to visit the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We arrive by train – tickets included – to one of its charming towns, normally Vernazza, though on busy tourist dates it could be Manarola or Corniglia. You have time for lunch. Afterwards, we travel by train to Levanto and continue by coach to Genoa, where you have free time to explore the historic centre, a reminder of its grandeur as a powerful republic in the Middle Ages. Please note – the train to Cinque Terre is a regular commuter service, not a tourist train. At peak times there can be long waits, trains may be full and there are no seat reservations, so in some cases the journey may be standing.
Day 6 - Genoa - Portofino - Milan
We continue to the nearby town of Rapallo to embark for Portofino, one of the most exclusive places in Europe. We enjoy a seaside stroll and time at leisure. After lunch, we continue to Milan, where you have free time to wander this elegant city – now a symbol of modernity and culture in northern Italy. We recommend visiting the stunning Gothic cathedral in Piazza del Duomo, as well as the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Please note – in adverse weather or during winter, the boat crossing to Portofino, whether from Rapallo or Santa Margherita, may not operate.
Day 7 - Milan
After breakfast, our journey comes to an end – leaving you with wonderful memories.
