Itinerary
Day 1 - Skåbu
We arrive in Skåbu, a small Norwegian village said to take its name from Skadi, the Norse goddess of skiing and hunting. At around 8pm we meet the tour leader and fellow travellers – our first chance to get acquainted and hear about the adventures ahead. We then sit down to a warm Norwegian welcome with dinner at the hotel, an introduction to head chef Lukasz B. Socha’s gourmet cooking. If you would like extra time in Oslo, you can arrange pre–tour hotel nights through your sales representative.
Days 2-7 - Skåbu
We explore Skåbu’s snowy landscapes on our cross–country skis, following a flexible plan shaped by the guides to suit local conditions and the group’s ability, with both on– and off–track options throughout the week. After a ski fitting this morning, we start on flatter terrain to learn or refresh technique, then develop our skills for the off–track sections. Trails are prepared as soon as the snow arrives, many ideal for less experienced skiers, and our routes may lead through sheltered birch forest and into the mountains for sweeping panoramas. Each evening we return to the hotel for storytelling in the living room before dinner. Most nights bring an innovative two–course menu, while on Day 7 we celebrate with a five–course gourmet dinner – a fitting finale to a thrilling week of cross–country skiing. On one night chosen by the tour leader based on weather, we set out on a two–hour Dark Sky experience, heading into the mountains behind the hotel in snowshoes or on foot depending on snow and ground conditions, as our guide shares stories of stars in Norse mythology and explains navigation in the Stone Age and Viking eras.
Day 8 - Skåbu
Having skied through Skåbu’s winter landscapes, savoured gourmet dinners and enjoyed a Dark Sky night with Norse stories, it is time to say farewell and begin the journey home. Make sure you pack a lunch from the breakfast buffet for your travels. If you would like more time in Oslo, you can speak to your sales representative about extending your stay.
