Itinerary
Day 1 - Malaga - Costa del Sol
Arrive at Malaga Airport and collect your hire car before driving to your hotel for check-in. The Costa del Sol, a highlight of Andalusia’s coastline, is renowned for its golden beaches and warm Mediterranean waters. Beyond the coast, the area offers a rich cultural heritage, with ancient fortresses, traditional markets, and charming whitewashed villages nestled in the hills. Settle in and enjoy your first evening in this vibrant region. Overnight on the Costa del Sol.
Day 2 - Ronda - Seville
After breakfast at your hotel, set off for Ronda, a striking town perched 698 metres above sea level in the Serranía de Ronda mountains. Renowned for its aristocratic past, Ronda is one of Spain’s most historic and scenic towns, once a refuge for bandits and smugglers. The town is dramatically divided by the El Tajo gorge, which plunges 100 metres deep. On one side lies La Ciudad, the old Moorish quarter, with its narrow streets and whitewashed houses featuring wrought-iron balconies. On the other side is El Mercadillo, the newer district established after the Christian Reconquest, home to landmarks such as the Plaza de Toros, one of Spain’s oldest and most famous bullrings. After exploring Ronda’s highlights, continue to Seville for hotel check-in and overnight stay.
Day 3 - Seville
After breakfast, visit Seville’s top attractions, starting with the Royal Alcazar palace and the cathedral—both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Alcazar dates back to the 10th century as a Moorish caliph’s palace and showcases a blend of architectural styles, including Moorish, Mudejar, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque, across its halls, pavilions, patios, and gardens.
Next, you can explore the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, renowned for its Giralda belfry, Seville’s most iconic landmark. Originally a 12th-century mosque, it is now the third-largest church in the world. You then wander through Santa Cruz, the city’s most charming old quarter and former Jewish neighbourhood, with its maze of whitewashed streets, alleys, archways, and patios, each steeped in history. Overnight in Seville.
Day 4 - Evora - Lisbon
After breakfast, set off for Lisbon, travelling via the historic city of Évora. This UNESCO World Heritage site stands prominently over the Alentejo plains and offers a rich history spanning from Roman times to the present. Évora’s streets reveal a unique blend of architectural styles reflecting its past under Roman, Visigothic, Muslim and Christian rule. Take time to explore the city’s atmospheric centre, discovering its remarkable monuments and heritage. Afterwards, continue to Lisbon and check in to the hotel for the evening.
Day 5 - Lisbon
After breakfast, explore Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest quarter, known for its narrow, winding streets and steep stairways that reveal the city’s rich history and character. Lisbon is famously built on seven hills overlooking the vast Tagus estuary, often called the “Sea of Straw,” where the city’s colourful houses appear to cascade down to the water’s edge.
Later, visit the historic Belém district to see the iconic Belém Tower guarding the river and the Monument to the Discoveries, erected in 1960 to commemorate Henry the Navigator. You also tour the Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its exquisite Manueline architecture. In the evening, you can enjoy a traditional Fado performance, experiencing the soulful music that captures Lisbon’s unique spirit. Overnight in Lisbon.
Day 6 - Albufeira
After breakfast, travel back into Spain along the scenic coastline, stopping in Albufeira before continuing to Huelva. En route, pause at La Rábida to explore the historic Dock of the Caravels, where you can step aboard faithful replicas of the three ships Christopher Columbus sailed on his voyage to the New World. Nearby, visit the Monastery of La Rábida, where Columbus prepared for his expedition. Afterwards, continue to Huelva for hotel check-in and a relaxing evening.
Day 7 - Huelva
Start the day by exploring Huelva, a city that blends history, culture, and natural beauty. Wander through Plaza de las Monjas, the vibrant main square, and take in the impressive Cathedral of La Merced. You then visit Marismas del Odiel, a protected wetland renowned for its rich birdlife, including flamingos. After your time in Huelva, return to the Costa del Sol for your overnight stay.
Day 8 - Costa del Sol - Malaga
Start your final day in Costa del Sol with a hearty breakfast at your hotel. When the time comes, make your way to the airport to return your hire car and prepare for your onward journey.
