Itinerary
Day 1 - Tunis
Upon arrival at Tunis–Carthage International Airport, our team and your driver will welcome you and transfer you to your accommodation. You can spend the remainder of the day unwinding at the hotel or explore the surrounding area at your leisure. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner served at the hotel. Overnight stay in Tunis.
Day 2 - Tunis - Sidi Bou Said - Carthage - Tunis - Hammamet
After a hearty breakfast, we will collect you at around 8 am to begin the day’s journey. Our first stop is the charming village of Sidi Bou Said, perched over 100 metres above the Mediterranean Sea. Known for its distinctive whitewashed walls and striking blue doors and windows, the village offers stunning coastal views. Next, we visit the ancient site of Carthage, set along a beautiful coastline. Although the city was destroyed by the Romans, you will see excavations of homes, baths and sewage systems that reveal its historical significance. We also explore the Amphitheatre of Carthage, originally built in the 1st century and later rebuilt by the Romans. This impressive structure now hosts the annual International Music Festival of Carthage, accommodating up to 30,000 visitors. After lunch, we head to downtown Tunis to visit the National Museum of Bardo, housed in a former beylical palace and famed for its extensive collection of mosaics. The day concludes with a visit to the ancient Medina of Tunis, where you will have some free time to explore at your leisure. We then transfer to Hammamet for your overnight stay.
Day 3 - Tunis - Dougga - Bulla Regia - Hammamet
After breakfast, we will collect you at 8 am for a visit to Dougga, one of Tunisia’s most impressive archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage location. Dougga is renowned for its exceptionally well-preserved Roman ruins, reflecting a blend of Roman, Punic and Byzantine influences. Key highlights include the Capitol and the Theatre. Following a local lunch, we continue to Bulla Regia, an ancient Berber, Punic and Roman town famous for its semi-subterranean houses from the Hadrianic era, designed to provide relief from the intense heat. Many of the original mosaic floors remain in situ, while others are displayed at the Bardo Museum in Tunis. We will return to Hammamet for hotel check-in around 6 pm.
Day 4 - Hammamet - Zaghouan - Kairouan
After breakfast, we depart at 8 am for Outhna, one of North Africa’s oldest Roman cities. While much about Uthina remains unknown, it is notable for its large Roman amphitheatre, which was a central feature during the city’s 2nd-century peak and remains a key attraction today. We then enjoy lunch at the eco-village of Dar Zaghouan before continuing to Thuburbo Majus. Originally a Punic settlement, it was established as a Roman veteran colony by Augustus in 27 BC, providing retired soldiers with land to begin civilian life. Its strategic location on trade routes made it an important site. The ruins lie in open countryside, away from nearby towns. We arrive in Kairouan around 6 pm for check-in and overnight stay.
Day 5 - Kairouan - Sbeitla - Makthar - Kairouan
After breakfast, we will collect you at 8 am and set off for Sbeitla, also known as Sufetula. Here, you will explore some of Tunisia’s best-preserved Roman forum temples. This site also marks the entry point of the Muslim conquest of North Africa. Following lunch, we continue to Makthar, a strategic fortress established by the Numidians in the 3rd century BC to oversee trade routes linking Sbeitla, Kairouan, and El Kef. We will return to the hotel in Kairouan at around 6 pm for your overnight stay.
Day 6 - Kairouan - El Djem - Port El Kantaoui - Hammamet
After breakfast, meet your guide at 8 am for a walk through the old Medina of Kairouan, culminating at the Great Mosque of Kairouan. Built in 670 AD by the Arab general Uqba Ibn Nafi, this mosque is a significant site of architectural and spiritual importance, attracting visitors from around the world. Next, visit the Aghlabid water basins—two large reservoirs and several cisterns that have endured for centuries, once vital for supplying scarce drinking water. After lunch, travel to El Djem to explore its remarkable Roman amphitheatre, the second largest of its kind, dating back around 1,800 years. Exceptionally well preserved, it was originally used for gladiatorial contests and other public spectacles. The day concludes with a leisurely stroll around the harbour at Port El Kantaoui, where you can browse for souvenirs or relax with a Tunisian coffee or fresh juice. We will return to the hotel in Hammamet around 6 pm for check-in.
Day 7 - Hammamet - Kelibia - Kerkouene - Haouaria - Tunis
After breakfast, we will collect you at 8 am for a full day exploring the Cap Bon peninsula, renowned for its abundant orange and lemon groves and charming Mediterranean coastal towns. Our first stop is Kelibia, known in Roman times as Clypia or Clupea. Founded by the Carthaginians in the 5th century BC as the fortified town of Aspis, it was the site of the first African battle of the First Punic War in 255 BC. Next, we visit Kerkouane, one of the most significant Punic cities, offering a fascinating glimpse into ancient civilisation. After lunch, we continue to Haouaria before returning to Tunis by around 6 pm for your final evening. Overnight in Tunis.
Day 8 - Tunis
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, we will transfer you to Tunis–Carthage International Airport and assist you with your departure formalities.
