Itinerary
Day 1 - Hai - Arusha
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, we meet you and transfer you to your lodge in Arusha. Spend the afternoon at leisure – you can unwind and make use of the lodge’s facilities or head out to explore Arusha at your own pace. Settle into modern comforts in mature, colourful surroundings. Overnight in Arusha.
Day 2 - Arusha - Minjingu
Morning at leisure – you can relax at the lodge – followed by a safari briefing and lunch. In the afternoon we depart Arusha by safari vehicle, travelling across the Maasai Steppe past picturesque villages and maize, coffee and banana plantations. At Makuyuni we continue to Lake Burunge on the western edge of the Tarangire National Park gate, where our lodge sits on the lakeshore adjacent to the park. We arrive for dinner and overnight. Set within the migratory corridor between Manyara and Tarangire and about a 20 minute drive from Tarangire National Park, the camp offers 20 luxury tents and 10 lodge rooms in shady bushland with wide views over Lake Burunge. Overnight in Tarangire.
Day 3 - Mto wa Mbu
This morning we board our safari vehicle for game viewing in Tarangire National Park, seeking out its large lion prides and elephant herds. We follow tracks lined with baobabs and explore Silale Swamp before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we drive north through the park to Makuyuni, then continue up through the escarpment to our lodge perched on the edge of the Rift Valley with wide views over Lake Manyara. Manyara Lakeview Oasis offers canvas tents and cottages – 10 tents and 16 cottages in total – each with a private balcony. Overnight at Lake Manyara.
Day 4 - Seronera
After breakfast, we set out on a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, then return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we travel north west through hilly highlands with wheat and coffee plantations and enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From here the vast Serengeti plains come into view – we start spotting wildlife as we approach the entrance gate. After completing park formalities, we continue with game viewing en route to our camp. We arrive for dinner and check in at Kati Kati Camp, a semi permanent tented camp in Central Serengeti positioned to explore the Serengeti Plains. The camp has 15 en suite tents and a central mess tent where meals are served, and a campfire is lit each evening for appetisers and snacks before dinner. Overnight in the Serengeti.
Day 5 - Seronera
After breakfast, we set out to explore Serengeti National Park. We enjoy morning and afternoon game drives across varied terrain – riverine forests, open woodlands, rocky kopjes and volcanic grasslands – with a pause at midday for lunch back at the lodge. The Serengeti is famed for its immense wildlife populations and the annual Great Migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle; with luck, we may also encounter members of the Big Five. Birdlife and reptiles are widespread throughout the park. In the evening, we return to camp for dinner. Overnight in the Serengeti.
Day 6 - Karatu
After breakfast we depart the Serengeti for Ngorongoro, game viewing across the plains as we go and stopping en route for a picnic lunch. We then skirt the crater rim, descend to the park gate and continue to Karatu, where our lodge sits amid farmland with a view of the crater’s back wall. Tloma Lodge is a small and exclusive lodge set on top of a valley in the Ngorongoro Highlands – it overlooks a coffee plantation and features attractive gardens with a heated outdoor pool. The lodge offers 34 spacious en suite cottages built in the style of an old colonial farm.
Day 7 - Karatu
After an early breakfast, we drive from Karatu to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend about 2,000 feet through the morning mist into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. With a picnic lunch, we spend the day exploring the crater floor’s varied habitats – forest, swamps, lakes, springs and open grassland – which support exceptional concentrations of wildlife. In the late afternoon, we ascend the rim and return to the lodge in Karatu. You have the rest of the day at leisure before we reconvene for dinner. Overnight in Ngorongoro.
Day 8 - Arusha
Depart after breakfast and travel southeast from Karatu, passing the highlands, Lake Manyara and Mto wa Mbu. We descend the spectacular escarpment and continue past wheat plains and coffee plantations before joining the main road to Arusha. The journey crosses the Maasai Steppe – a region of pastoral villages and fields of maize, coffee and bananas. On arrival in Arusha, we stop for lunch, then continue with your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.
