Itinerary
Day 1 - Across the Uyuni Salt Flats
Uyuni - Colchani - Incahuasi Island - Pia Pia Island - Villa de Candelaria. Once you have arrived in Uyuni, make your way to the meeting point, where we will depart at 10:00 am to begin our journey.
At 10:30 am, we set off with a visit to the Cementerio de Trenes, an atmospheric train graveyard scattered across the edge of the Uyuni Salt Flat, offering insight into the region’s industrial past. We then continue to Colchani, where we see the traditional salt production process and learn how the salt is extracted and prepared for use.
Our journey continues with a stop to view the salt crafts, where local artisans transform salt into decorative and practical items. We also visit the salt piles, stacked across the flats as part of the harvesting process, followed by the Ojos de Sal - small pools of bubbling water emerging naturally through the salt crust.
Later, we reach Isla Incahuasi, a striking island in the heart of the salt flats, known for its giant cacti and unusual desert vegetation. From here, we continue to our Hotel de Sal, constructed entirely from salt bricks, where we check in and settle into our unique surroundings.
At 8:00 pm, we check in to our first night’s accommodation at the Hostel de Sal, with shared bathroom facilities, and we enjoy dinner together to round off the day.
Meeting point: Av. Ferroviaria, Uyuni, Bolivia (between Sucre and Camacho)
Day 2 - Villa de Candelaria to Polques
Villa de Candelaria - Polques. This morning, we begin with breakfast at 7:30 am before departing at 8:00 am to continue our journey.
Our first stop is Volcán Ollagüe, an active volcano rising dramatically along the Andean plateau. We then travel to a series of flamingo-filled lagoons - Cañapa, Hedionda and Honda - where the mineral-rich waters attract large numbers of these elegant birds.
We continue through the remote Siloli Desert, set high in the Andes and known for its striking rock formations shaped by wind and time. After lunch, we visit the Sol de Mañana geyser field, an area of steaming vents and bubbling geothermal activity. Nearby, we stop at El Árbol de Piedra, a naturally sculpted rock formation standing alone in the desert landscape.
Our day concludes at Laguna Colorada, a red-hued lagoon in the Huayllajara area, renowned for its contrasting colours and large flamingo population. We then make our way to Albergue Laguna, where we spend our second night with shared bathroom facilities.
Day 3 - Last Journey Through the Altiplano
Polques - Uyuni. After our final breakfast, we depart early at 5:00 am to begin the last day of our journey.
We start with a visit to the geysers, where jets of hot water and steam rise from the ground in the cold morning air. We then continue to the thermal waters, where there is time to relax in the naturally warm pools. After breakfast, we visit the Rocas de Dalí, an unusual group of rock formations named for their resemblance to surrealist landscapes.
Our route then takes us to Laguna Verde and Laguna Blanca, two striking lagoons known for their contrasting colours set against the surrounding volcanic scenery. We continue through the Valle de Rocas, an area filled with dramatic rock formations, before concluding the tour with visits to Culplina and San Cristóbal.
We return to Uyuni by 5:00 pm, marking the end of the tour.
