Day 1 - Beijing
Welcome to China! Upon arrival in Beijing, we will transfer you to your hotel. As dusk approaches, we will head to Wangfujing Street, a lively pedestrian avenue renowned for its bustling atmosphere, a variety of shops, and delicious dining options. This evening outing offers a fantastic opportunity to begin exploring and familiarising yourself with the vibrant city. Dinner is included, followed by a comfortable return to your hotel. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Beijing
Our second day in Beijing promises to be an exhilarating exploration of China's vibrant capital. We will embark on a full-day tour beginning with the iconic Forbidden City, an awe-inspiring architectural masterpiece that served as the imperial palace for 24 emperors over nearly half a millennium. Next, we'll explore Jingshan Park, where a climb to its peak offers a spectacular vantage point over the Forbidden City, weather permitting. Our journey continues with a stroll through the expansive Tiananmen Square, one of the world's largest public squares, where we can view the striking Great National Theatre, often referred to as the Beijing Opera House.Lunch is included, after which our adventure takes us to the Summer Palace, a serene imperial retreat noted for its stunning gardens and tranquil lake views. We will then delve into traditional Beijing life with a tricycle ride through the historic Hutong neighbourhoods. Here you'll experience the city's rich cultural tapestry and visit a classic Siheyuan courtyard house.In the evening, we return to our hotel. Please note, due to heritage protection measures, access to the Forbidden City may be limited. If unavailable, we'll instead visit the Confucius Temple and the Lama Temple, both of which hold significant places in Chinese history and culture.
Day 3 - Beijing - Shanghai
Today, we embark on a journey to the iconic Great Wall, exploring the magnificent Mutianyu section – an architectural marvel with over 2,000 years of history. We'll ascend via cable car, providing scenic views as we venture onto this historic fortification (tickets are included). Our time in Beijing concludes with a delightful lunch, where we savour the renowned Peking duck. In the afternoon, we transfer to the train station, ready to board a high-speed train to Shanghai. Upon arrival, we'll make our way to the hotel for check-in, where we'll relax and settle in for an overnight stay in this vibrant city.
Day 4 - Shanghai
Today, we'll explore Shanghai, a city where tradition meets modernity. Our day begins in the Pudong district, famed for its striking skyline peppered with towering skyscrapers, including the iconic Pearl Tower. We’ll then enjoy a scenic ferry crossing the Huangpu River, offering superb views of both the contemporary and historic facets of this bustling metropolis.Our journey continues through the Old City, where we will visit the tranquil Yuyuan Garden, a beautifully preserved site from the Ming Dynasty. Here, we’ll partake in a traditional tea ceremony, immersing ourselves in a significant aspect of China's cultural heritage. Moving on, we'll wander through Xintiandi, one of Shanghai’s most fashionable districts, renowned for its chic boutiques and vibrant café culture. Lunch is included as part of our programme.Following lunch, we head to Tianzifang, a charming area known for its narrow alleys, artisan shops, and contemporary art galleries. We’ll finish our exploration with a leisurely stroll along The Bund, where grand colonial buildings echo the influence of European trade. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace, and if you wish, you can opt for a captivating evening boat trip to witness Shanghai’s stunning night skyline.
Day 5 - Shanghai - Luoyang
On the fifth day of our journey, we begin with an early morning transfer to the train station for a high-speed rail experience departing at 07:17 a.m. Over the course of five hours, we will cover 1,000 kilometres, whisking through charming countryside landscapes before reaching Luoyang. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy an included lunch, fuelling us for the exploration ahead.Our first stop is the remarkable Longmen Buddhist Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This extraordinary complex extends for over a kilometre along rocky cliffs, boasting more than 100,000 intricately carved Buddha statues and reliefs etched into the stone. To fully appreciate the magnificence of this site, we will also partake in a tranquil boat ride along the river, offering a unique vantage point of these ancient carvings.Following this, we will make our way into the storied city of Luoyang. As we pass through the impressive city walls, you'll find yourself immersed in its lively streets, where you can enjoy the traditional charm and vibrant local activities that Luoyang has to offer.
Day 6 - Luoyang - Longmen - Sanmexia - Xian
On the sixth day of our journey, we begin our explorations on the outskirts of Luoyang, where we visit the historic White Horse Buddhist Monastery. Renowned as a significant centre of Buddhist learning, it attracts scholars and practitioners from across the globe. We then proceed to Sanmenxia, a city steeped in rich history. Here, we'll gaze upon the mighty Yellow River before visiting the Baolun Temple, notable for its impressive tall pagoda. Following this, we'll explore the prestigious Guo Museum—lauded as one of China's finest—where ancient funeral carriages from the former State of Guo provide intriguing insights into the region's past. Lunch is included in our plans. Travelling eastward, we'll be treated to views of the sacred Mount Hua, celebrated for its striking peaks and spiritual importance. Our day concludes with a late afternoon arrival in Xian, marking the end of a day filled with both cultural discovery and natural beauty.
Day 7 - Xian
Today, we delve into the rich history of Xian, the city where the ancient Silk Road began. In the morning, our adventure takes us to the renowned Terracotta Army, an awe-inspiring archaeological site where thousands of life-sized clay soldiers have stood guard over the tomb of China's first emperor for centuries. Following this, we return to Xian to visit the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, a stunning Buddhist edifice that has withstood the test of time for over a thousand years. Our exploration continues through Xian's historic walled centre, where a visit to the bustling Muslim Quarter and the Great Mosque offers a glimpse into China's diverse cultural tapestry. At the Drum Tower, enjoy a short performance showcasing traditional Chinese music played on ancient instruments. After our guided tours, you're free to explore Xian at your own pace.
Day 8 - Xian - Zhangjiajie
We leave Xian and proceed to the airport for an included flight to Zhangjiajie. Upon reaching Zhangjiajie, we will arrange a transfer to your hotel in Wulingyuan. After settling in, you will have the remainder of the day to explore the surrounding area at your leisure. We will spend the night in Zhangjiajie.
Day 9 - Zhangjiajie
On day nine, we embark on an exploration of Zhangjiajie's mesmerising landscapes, starting with a visit to Baofeng Lake, famously dubbed the "Paradise of Water." Surrounded by lush green peaks, the lake reflects the stunning natural scenery, and we’ll take a tranquil boat ride to fully appreciate the serene setting. Our adventure continues at Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, where we ascend the famous Bailong Elevator to Yuanjiajie. This area, recognised worldwide as the inspiration for the floating mountains in the film *Avatar*, offers an unparalleled vantage point with peaks of almost uniform height, perfect for panoramic views.After enjoying a leisurely lunch, we journey via tourist bus to Tianzi Mountain. Here, the distinctive peaks seem to stretch endlessly, presenting a breathtaking spectacle. Known for its four astonishing natural phenomena—the Sea of Clouds, Moonlight Glow, Rays of Sunshine, and Winter Snow—Tianzi Mountain delivers a display of nature's magnificence at every turn. Following our explorations, we return to the hotel in Zhangjiajie for an overnight stay, inspired and awed by the beauty of this remarkable region.
Day 10 - Zhangjiajie
Today, we embark on an adventure to Tianmen Mountain, famed for its extraordinary geological formations and stunning natural beauty, wrapped in cultural depth. We'll ascend via the longest cable car in Asia, an exciting journey spanning over 7,200 metres. Once at the top, we’ll navigate the cliffside walkways and experience the exhilarating Glass Sky Walk, suspended over a spectacular view. A natural karst cave tunnels through the mountain, adding to the day’s remarkable experiences. Lunch is included in today's itinerary. Following this, we’ll make our way to Furong, a charming Tujia ethnic village nestled around a waterfall, offering a blend of nature and traditional culture. Our explorations conclude with a return to our hotel in Zhangjiajie for an overnight stay.
Day 11 - Zhangjiajie
On the final day of our adventure, enjoy breakfast and a moment to reflect on the unforgettable experiences we've shared. As we conclude our journey, you're invited to luxuriate in the memories of the stunning landscapes and rich cultures that have marked your travels. Our time together has come to an end, but the stories and friendships will stay with you as you prepare to continue your travels or head home.
