Itinerary
Day 1 - Datong - Da Tong Shi
Upon arrival at Datong airport or railway station, please provide your arrival details in advance so we can arrange your pick-up. An English-speaking guide will meet you and accompany you on a private transfer to your hotel in Datong, which takes approximately one hour. After settling in, you may choose to relax and enjoy the hotel’s facilities or take a stroll through the city’s charming streets to experience its distinctive atmosphere. Overnight in Datong.
Day 2 - Da Tong Shi
After breakfast, we will collect you from the hotel lobby at around 8:00 for a half-day excursion to the Yungang Grottoes. This remarkable site is one of China’s most celebrated ancient Buddhist sculptural complexes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It showcases an impressive blend of Buddhist symbolism and traditional Chinese artistic styles. We will return to the hotel by approximately midday, leaving the rest of the day free for you to relax or explore Datong at your own pace. Overnight in Datong.
Day 3 - Da Tong Shi
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a full day at your leisure to explore the rich history and ancient atmosphere of Datong. You may choose to wander the city’s streets and absorb its unique heritage, reflecting the legacy of various Chinese dynasties. Alternatively, you can join one of our optional tours. The first option visits the Hanging Temple and Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, where you’ll discover the spiritual traditions of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism within the temple’s walls, followed by lunch at a local restaurant and a visit to the oldest and tallest timber pagoda in China. This tour concludes around 17:00. The second option is a half-day morning tour to Huayan and Shanhua Temples, renowned for their Liao and Tang dynasty architecture, and the Nine Dragon Screen—a notable spirit wall designed to ward off negative energies according to feng shui principles. This tour finishes at approximately midday, leaving you the afternoon free. Overnight in Datong.
Day 4 - Datong - Da Tong Shi
After breakfast, you will check out of the hotel. At the arranged time, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby to accompany you to Datong airport or railway station for your onward journey.
