Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in Huangshan
On arrival in Huangshan City, we are met by our local guide and driver. We transfer to the hotel, a short journey of around 15 minutes.
The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to rest after your journey or explore the local area at your own pace.
Day 2 - Exploring Mt Huangshan and Historic Tunxi
After breakfast at the hotel, we travel to Mt Huangshan, a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site and World Geopark, renowned for its granite peaks, ancient pine trees and sea of clouds.
We explore the mountain on foot, covering approximately 6-7 km over 4-5 hours, including time for lunch. Our route takes us via the South Entrance and Yungu Cable Way to Beginning-to-Believe Peak, past the famous Black Tiger Pine, and on to Lion Peak. Here we visit highlights such as the Dawn Pavilion and the Stone Monkey Watching the Sea. We continue to the Dispelling Cloud Pavilion before returning via the same route and descending by cable car.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we return to downtown Huangshan and visit Tunxi Ancient Street. First developed during the Song Dynasty as a river port, it later became an important commercial centre and is now lined with traditional architecture and local speciality shops.
We then transfer back to the hotel, with the rest of the evening at leisure.
Day 3 - Huizhou Heritage Villages of Yi County
Huangshan - Bishan. Following breakfast, we drive to Yi County, a journey of approximately 1.5 hours.
We visit Hongcun Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its distinctive buffalo-shaped layout and well-preserved Huizhou architecture. The village is also known as one of the filming locations for the Oscar-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
We continue to Xidi Village, another World Heritage Site, often described as a living ancient residential museum due to its large collection of Ming and Qing Dynasty dwellings.
Our final visit of the day is to Nanping Village, a maze-like settlement with narrow alleys linking ancestral halls and historic residences. The village features eight ancestral temples and around 300 traditional buildings, and served as a filming location for the classic Chinese film Judou.
We then transfer to our hotel in Bishan Village.
Day 4 - Bishan Village Life and Departure
Bishan - Huangshan. After breakfast at the local guest house, you have free time in Bishan Village. This traditional Huizhou village offers an insight into local daily life, and you may choose to enjoy a leisurely walk or take advantage of complimentary cycling around the village.
Check-out is before 12:00 pm.
We then drive to the railway station or airport for your onward journey, depending on your departure schedule.
