Itinerary
Day 1 - San Jose
Upon arrival in vibrant San José, you will be met by our representative who will assist you to your transport. You will then be transferred directly to your hotel in the city, where you will spend your first night in Costa Rica. This allows you to settle in comfortably after your journey and prepare for the adventures ahead.
Day 2 - San Jose - Tortuguero
We collect you from your hotel at around 6.30 am to begin the journey to Tortuguero. Travel by shared bus through Braulio Carrillo National Park, enjoying views of the mountains and passing through charming villages. Around 8.30 am, we stop for a hearty breakfast at a restaurant in Guapiles before continuing by boat through the rivers and canals of Tortuguero National Park. Arrive at your eco-lodge in time for lunch, then spend the afternoon relaxing amid the lush tropical forest and abundant wildlife. Overnight in Tortuguero.
Day 3 - Tortuguero
After breakfast, we set off at 9 am for a two-hour boat tour through the Tortuguero canals, a highlight of the region. Guided by an expert naturalist, we explore the intricate network of waterways, lagoons and dense rainforest, home to a remarkable variety of wildlife including numerous species of amphibians, reptiles and mammals. In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to visit the charming village of Tortuguero. With a population of around 500 and no cars, the village sits on a narrow strip of land between the beach and a canal. Stroll through the colourful streets to experience the local Caribbean culture and way of life. Dinner is served back at the hotel.
Day 4 - Arenal
After breakfast, we leave Tortuguero at around 9 am, travelling by shared boat and land transfers back to Guapiles. We pause for lunch at a local restaurant at approximately 1 pm. Following the meal, a shared transfer will take you to the Arenal area. Expect to arrive by 5 pm for check-in, after which you can enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure. Overnight in Arenal.
Day 5 - Arenal
After breakfast, meet your guide at around 8.00 am for a four-hour walking tour of Arenal Volcano National Park. Learn about the volcano’s active periods and enjoy the lush surroundings with views of the dormant volcano. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as sloths, howler monkeys and anteaters as you explore. Return to the hotel by 12.30 pm and spend the afternoon at leisure or choose from several optional activities. You may take a naturalist-guided walk along the hanging bridges at Mistico Park, offering a safe way to explore the forest canopy and impressive views of Arenal Volcano (approximately 2.5 hours). Alternatively, visit La Fortuna Waterfall, where you can descend a 500-metre trail to admire the 60-metre falls, swim in the clear waters or simply relax; the entrance fee supports local community projects (around 3 hours). Another option is to unwind at Tabacón Hot Springs from 5 pm, enjoying thermal pools fed by volcanic waters amidst tropical gardens, followed by dinner (about 4 hours). Overnight in Arenal.
Day 6 - Monteverde
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and at 8 am, we will collect you for the transfer to Monteverde cloud forest. This journey combines a comfortable 30 to 40-minute pontoon boat ride across the lake to Río Chiquito, followed by a short break to stretch your legs, then a 1.5-hour microbus ride to your hotel in Monteverde. Please note that during the rainy season, the transfer may take longer. The total travel time is approximately 3.5 hours. Once in Monteverde, spend the afternoon at Selvatura Park, where you can explore the cloud forest canopy via suspension bridges and platforms, offering a safe and accessible way to experience this unique ecosystem. Overnight in Monteverde.
Day 7 - Tamarindo
After breakfast, we collect you at around 8.30 am for the transfer to the beautiful Guanacaste region. The journey takes approximately four hours, bringing you to the vibrant beach town of Tamarindo. Upon arrival, you have the rest of the day at your leisure to explore the charming streets, enjoy the local atmosphere, or simply relax and make the most of your hotel’s facilities. Overnight in Tamarindo.
Day 8 - Tamarindo
Spend the day at leisure in Tamarindo, a vibrant beach town known for its lively atmosphere and stunning coastline. Relax on the golden sands and soak up the warm sun, or if you’re feeling adventurous, try surfing the well-known waves that draw enthusiasts from around the world. You can also explore the town at your own pace, enjoying its shops, cafés and local charm. Overnight in Tamarindo.
Day 9 - Tamarindo
Spend the day at leisure in Tamarindo, located on the Central Pacific Coast of Puntarenas Province. Enjoy time on the beach—whether relaxing under the sun or playing in the waves. You can also explore the town on foot to experience the local culture and vibrant atmosphere. Tamarindo offers a wide range of restaurants serving both local and international cuisine, perfect for sampling during your free time. Overnight in Tamarindo.
Day 10 - Tamarindo - San Jose
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast to start your final day in Costa Rica. When the time comes, a private transfer will take you to Juan Santamaría International Airport for your onward flight or journey home.
