Head to Normandy for Monet’s Giverny, Rouen’s medieval lanes and the D–Day beaches at Arromanches, then Brittany’s walled Saint–Malo and crepe–filled Dinan. Drift through the Loire Valley’s showstoppers – Villandry’s gardens, Amboise, Chenonceau and Chambord – before the Dordogne’s prehistoric Lascaux, golden Sarlat, clifftop Rocamadour and a boat ride in the Padirac chasm. Itinerary
Day 1 - Paris
Welcome to Paris. We’ll transfer you to the hotel, then you’ll have free time. In the afternoon you’ll receive information from our team – either in person or via the noticeboard at reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Paris
We’ll set off on a panoramic tour of Paris with a local guide. Later we’ll transfer to Montmartre, famed for its street artists and cosy restaurants, where you can pause for lunch. We’ll then return to the hotel, with a stop at the Louvre for anyone who wishes to remain in the city centre – you can visit the museum if you like. You’ll have free time in the afternoon. In the evening, you can choose to attend an optional variety show.
Day 3 - Paris
This morning we’ll transfer to Versailles to see the grand palace and gardens – admission is not included. Back in Paris, you’ll have free time in the afternoon. Your guide will offer options for a Seine boat trip and a visit to the Latin Quarter.
Day 4 - Paris - Rouen - Arromanches - Caen
We’ll depart early for Normandy, stopping in Giverny to visit Monet’s house and its beautiful gardens – admission is included – and to reflect on impressionism, so rooted in this region. We’ll continue to Rouen, with time to wander its medieval streets and cathedral and to have lunch. We’ll then head to Arromanches, where the beaches are a poignant reminder of the Second World War landings, before arriving in Caen for leisure time in the city centre. From November to April, Monet’s house is closed, so we will not stop in Giverny.
Day 5 - Caen - Mont-Saint-Michel - Saint-Malo - Dinan - Rennes
This morning we’ll travel to Mont–Saint–Michel, ‘The Marvel’, where you’ll have time to explore the tidal island and its abbey. Crossing into Brittany, we’ll pause in Saint–Malo, whose mighty ramparts encircle the town – time for lunch. In the afternoon we’ll continue to Dinan, a charming Breton village where we’ll enjoy a crêpe and a drink. We’ll then make our way to Rennes, the Breton capital, with its fascinating historic centre.
Day 6 - Rennes - Angers - Tours - Villandry - Amboise
We’ll depart for Angers, where you can choose to visit the castle that houses the vast medieval Apocalypse tapestry. Continuing into the Loire Valley, we’ll arrive in Tours, set on the banks of the Loire, where you’ll have time to explore and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon we’ll visit the gardens of Château de Villandry – admission to the gardens is included. We’ll then continue to Amboise for the night, a town celebrated for its enchanting medieval quarter. Dinner is included.
Day 7 - Amboise - Chenonceaux - Chambord - Limoges
We’ll begin with a morning stroll in Amboise, home to the Château du Clos Lucé, where Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years. We’ll then explore the iconic Château de Chenonceau – tickets are included – elegantly spanning the river, before visiting Chambord, the largest château in the Loire Valley – access to the park is included. We’ll continue into central France to Limoges, renowned for porcelain; you might like to visit the historic centre, where the highlight is Saint–Étienne Cathedral.
Day 8 - Limoges - Sarlat - Beynac-et-Cazenac - Rocamadour
We’ll leave Limoges for the Dordogne, a region rich in charming villages and captivating landscapes. At Lascaux we’ll visit the museum and the replica caves – tickets are included – to learn about the area’s extraordinary prehistoric art. We’ll continue to Sarlat, with its remarkably well–preserved Renaissance historic centre, where there is time to stroll and have lunch. In Beynac we’ll explore a medieval castle overlooking the river – admission is included. We’ll end the day in Rocamadour, a beautiful medieval village with an important sanctuary perched on a cliff – you might like to walk down the Via Crucis and take the lift back up. Dinner is included.
Day 9 - Rocamadour - Padirac Cave - Collonges-la-Rouge - Saint-Emilion - Bordeaux
We’ll visit the impressive Padirac Chasm and take a boat along the underground river 75 metres below the surface. Afterwards we’ll continue to Collonges–la–Rouge, a picturesque village of red stone on the Way of St James. After lunch we’ll head to Saint–Émilion, in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, with time for a leisurely stroll, arriving in Bordeaux in the evening. The Padirac Chasm may be closed from November to the end of March due to weather conditions.
Day 10 - Bordeaux - Paris
Bordeaux’s historic centre is a World Heritage Site. We’ll admire the Water Mirror and explore the old town with its pedestrian streets and 11th–century cathedral. Later, you’ll have free time to stroll the Garonne riverbanks lined with inviting restaurants, or you can visit the Cité du Vin if you wish. After lunch we’ll take you to the railway station for a modern high–speed train – in just over two hours you’ll cover the 500 km from Bordeaux to Paris. On arrival, we’ll transfer you from the station to your hotel.
Day 11 - Paris
After breakfast our journey comes to an end – we hope you leave with wonderful memories.
